Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! Let's sew a sparkly pink party dress for my Smart Doll Mirai to celebrate. I was inspired by a beautiful dress designed by Paolo Sebastian and worn by fashion icon and actress Anya Taylor-Joy. The dress I'm making is quite different, but let's see how magical and elegant we can make this look.

I really love how this turned out! Though I think a good way to get a similar effect to the inspiration would be to use a chiffon instead of a Toole, I think that’d layer and fall closer to what you were looking for! This version is still so beautiful though!

One way to make tulle easier to work with is to put masking tape next to your seam allowance, it comes off easily, but gives structure to the tulle while you're sewing. :) You can also use spray starch if you want, then wash it out later.
This reminds me of a dress I wore to a spring formal in 1987 :-)

When I'm sewing, I use a hair iron for small pieces. I find it a lot more convenient than taking out the iron and board.

You should look into invisible thread. I had no idea it existed until my mum told me about it for my rainbow skirt.

to make something with more poof like the original I'd make the cape body itself wider, maybe even a full circle with more godets. and where you put godets I'd put full circles of tule. the radius of the circle is the same length as the godet slash. before you cut the slash for the godet lay the circle godet on top, so the edge lines up with the bottom of the hem of the cape and the center of the circle is at the top of your godet point. then sew the godet in, going up from the edge to the top of the godet point/center of the circle and back down again so you have a very narrow V shape. then cut the slash and push all the tule down towards the hem. your godet will be full with all the fabric in the entire circle.
I'd also get the softest floweyst tule you can get, but wouldn't go all the way to getting a sheer woven fabric. because if you get a woven fabric you'll have to hem the entire thing and that sounds like a nightmare.
I wish I thought about this for my Apollo!! I could've made him a pink suit or something lol

I’m thinking, you could have used clear nylon thread on the tulle so that you couldn’t see the stitching? It’s a very lovely dress 🥰

Forgive me if this sounds like a newb question but how do you keep your gather threads from snapping when you go to gather the fabric? No matter how gently I pull my gather threads always snap before I can complete the full gather unless its on a tiny piece
Make sure you use the longest straight stitch setting on your machine and use a good strong thread. Another way to gather is to use a wide zig zag setting over a length of wool or something like that. Then you gently pull the wool (Make sure you do not sew any of the wool into the stitches).
