Hey, This Video Very Nice 🙂
The Templin Institute do a video about the ISA Killzone series
Cheers dudes
Would you guys ever make a video on The Earth Federation or The Principality of Zeon from the Mobil Suit Gundam universe (from the Universal Century timeline)
Watching this video reminds me just how stupid and unrealistic the whole KIllzone storyline was.

The Helghast went from Space Third Reich to Space North Korea.
More like from Space Trade Union to Space Nazi-Communist Hybrid to Space Japanese Empire, since Visari's wife ended up in "power", yet the actual leaders were the generals and admirals who had secretly robbed her of that power.

"the things with the Killzone series is that the Hellghast seem to have nothing but legitimate grievances, but are assigned the role of bad guys solely because they wear Nazi hats." - Zero Punctuation
ah I see you're a man of culture as well
Well, their unfortunate descent into fascism, a form of society that has no potential for good, makes them unable to be the good guys. Killzone has no good guys.
@@zeehero7280 The capacity for good is there in fascism. The power gained by the dictator, and the selfish nature of humanity prevents it. There’s nothing wrong with an authoritarian government, though most of the world lives In oligarchic democratic society so we tend to look down on this. Democracy’s tend to move slowly and are cumbersome because of the checks and balances in place, and variety of agendas from politicians. Fascist governments generally don’t seem to have this issue as power is concentrated in one person. Can be good. Can be bad. Depends on how you use it. Like a hammer, you can smack head or smack a nail.
@@brevinspear3212 Well an enlightened dictator can be a far cry better than a bad one yes but absolute power corrupts absolutely and hence that system of government is very far from ideal for the peoples interests. No matter how enlightened or well meaning an absolute ruler may be he will not know what is best for every citizen of his mighty empire, nor will his group of elite experts, this is why some form of voting rights and representative government is superior, although as we can see in real life, not immune to corruption either.
there is definitely a lot wrong with authoritarian government, but it is not a question of good vs evil but rather what works better for the interests of the people in actual practice rather than theory.
@@zeehero7280 While no one person or group of people may know what’s absolutely best for every individual, I believe generalizations can be made. Id also like to add that I dont think (most?) governments don’t try too hard at controlling the individual, their efforts are instead focused mostly on groups of people. The only action taken by the majority of governments against a single person is general a punitive one or a trial of some sort to figure out whether they can/can’t punish you. A mayor governs his town or city, the president/senate governs a nation. They make the “best” decision they can for the group as a whole. (In theory). But no deal benefits everyone. Someone will always get the shorter end of the stick.
In an authoritarian government, I believe it would be easy to institute change in any part of the system. If something stopped working, doesn’t work, or isn’t working then immediate change can be implemented with little to no speed bumps or roadblocks on the way. Idealistically, the powers at large do this for the betterment of all. And that they do so for no better than because they already have what they want anyways. That is most definitely an ideal however I believe with the right system it can be made a reality.
Marcus Aurelius, a Roman emperor said something similar in his book; Meditations. He had absolute power within his empire and was able to, by the accounts I have read, be a pretty solid guy and (maybe?) the last “golden” emperor
Literally one of the coolest sci-fi factions in gaming. Their design is just sooo cool.

Yeah but after they turned ultra fascist i think they lost the right to claim the moral highground in this conflict
Well, Stahl's lust for power anyway. Those missiles he intended for Earth and to take over the UCN detonated over Helghan instead.
@@donmeisner4438 How are they ultra facist?
6:08 It takes an incredible level of restraint for nations to come to this and yet not have it snowball into total war, props to them.
Helghan lives, and marches on.
Fucking based.
Absolutely based
For Helghast
Unfathomably based.
The Killzone series, at least on paper, provide one of the most realistic portrayals of war.
The Helghast oppress and victimize their own people with promises of greatness, while the ISA are too self centered and imperialistic to take ownership of their part.
@Shrimp Actually Earth did. The Helghast tried to claim independence and got royally reamed for it. As a result they were thrown off there main colony and forced to exile on Helghast which was there primary mining facility. Earth than installed colonist who were loyal to Earth to administer trade and keep the colonial trade lanes open, to earth The ISA is nothing more than colonial defense forces for Earth's continued desire for resources she needs to keep herself sustaining. The Helghast do have legitimate grievances against the ISA and Earth although they were stupid to try to challenge the home-world. Fpr the most part what you see happen in Killzone is all because of Earth.
@@JoaoSoares-rs6ec While saying the Helghast are the good guys are a stretch, they are not without sympathy.
@Shrimp They're literally space nazis.
@Shrimp Maybe if you're trying to convince me that the Helghast are not explicitly paralleling the rise of the Third Reich you ought not to use White Nationalist dogwhistles?
@Shrimp I mean, the definition of a dogwhistle is to preserve plausible deniability through gaslighting.
Larissa's voice is awesome👌🏻
Yeah she's okay.
I love her voice and suprised how well she gets most of the pronunciations in some of the videos

I find the concept of the helghast fascinating, but the execution is hampered by the needs of the story
@Shrimp I think they just said we need a story here because that's what you do in single player campaigns. It is adequate for a game (if the gameplay is good) but I'm used to books where (good) stories are completely enthralling, so I guess I have higher expectations
Wait so your faction is so weak that even though an entire enemy planet got nuke, you are still unable to fight the remnant of their military? What?
I think it's more like, there's enough of a military left to do some insane amount of damage if they fight to the last man. They're also VERY close to Vekta so they could suicide mission it and whipe out potentially millions if not billions of civvies. It's a bit of a stupid plot to give them fully half but I sorta get the reasoning.
The difference between a military police state and a democratic civilian government. Priorities.
@@chimeraelite Given that vast ammounts of the Helgahn military personal was most likely suicidal anyway after whitnessing the destruction of their Homeworld, Treats of suicide missions against Vekta should have been taken very sereously indeed
I like to believe that the bulk of their military was lost during the invasion of Helghan, leaving Vekta only lightly defended.
Late response, but the Vektan government had no say in the armstrice, the UCN decided to give half the planet to the Helghast because they didn't want to spend anymore money on the conflict
It’s interesting how the Helghast were created by the ISA because of how they treated the defeated the helghast after the first war.
Same thing happened with Germany after WW1
The helghast dream will never die.

D3V THE DUDE GAMING make Helghan Great again
I mean I like the Helghast but them being given half of Vekta is one of the most "for the plot" kind of story elements I've ever seen. Everything in Killzone: Shadowfall doesn't fit the ISA's character before or hell even during that entry in the series. It seems the whole goal of the game was to make the Helghast less sympathetic while at the same time casting the previously highly oppressive ISA as morally righteous. The whole game didn't seem to get what made either government interesting, rather it changed them out to generic evil and generic good.
Helghst Men Bad.
Still failed. A lot of the fanbase still love the Helghast
Shadow Fall actually tried to be morally grey, but it didn’t work. For example, its attempt to blame New Helghan’s poverty on sanctions made no sense. The Helghast governed half a planet. They should’ve been fine. The fact that they weren’t was their own fault. The ISA was unreasonably generous in the game, and was right to not be more diplomatic with the Helghast.
It feels like Guerilla wanted to make the series more "relevant" by having what was left of the Helghast be something akin to North Korea: an outdated society that only exists as both a relic of past greater conflicts and as a very questionable product of political compromise. I can understand that they were trying to move away from WW2 IN SPACE (which is what A LOT of military sci-fi stories are, especially in video games) but the metaphor they came up with just dosen't hold up to scrutiny and not in the nitpicky way, but with really poorly thought out logic and explanations.
Agreed. "REALLY!? You're gonna just give them like, half the planet we fought defending?!"
Wouldn't mind a new game from the Helghan side of things with the New Helghan Republic as more grey or "good" side to experience. I can imagine plenty of content to cover.
For example you could have a classic big plot with some big story, or you have it more on a smaller or specialized scale, e.g. you are some Helghan "cop" or other investigator trying to uncover some murders or inner plots, while also potentially uncovering ISA meddling, to give an example. This setting would allow deeper exploration on Helghan aspects of society and more, over the cliché villain image you get when fighting for the ISA.
There needs to be a new Killzone game with a Helghast protagonist not dumb space marines like Rico who messed everything up. The Isa were so boring and it says something when most of the audience sympathize with the villains and mostly dearest the so called heroes.
Helghast Men Bad.
Shrimp how were they the good guys? I know they’re not as evil as the appear, but I still wouldn’t call them “good guys”
It's pretty clearly meant to be grey and gray morality with both sides having some good points/people/attributes and some bad ones, but there's clearly some thumb on the money spigot that can't shake the misconception that protagonist must equal good guy, and the writing just isn't very good. Just for Shadow Fall, how does a shattered people with a shattered planet get allowed to maintain any military/industrial/space capacity and get handed half a city instead of "here's an island near the arctic region, hand over all your ships and major weapons and you can have it"?
Shrimp no need to be a condescending prick, I never said the ISA were good guys.
Plus the helghast government killed its own people and countless innocent people during its invasion of vekta and just look at how they treat their own civilians they are far from good guys.
Shrimp well two assholes don’t make a right lol

"My people. Sons and daughters of Helghan.
For many years, we have been a broken nation. Shunned, oppressed, and conquered by those we sought to escape. 10 years ago, I asked for time, and that time was granted by you. You, the strength in my arm, the holders of my dreams.
Our forefathers embarked on the greatest exodus in the history of all mankind. An exodus for freedom. Helghan became that freedom. Our new world changed our bodies. At first, it weakened us, but in fact, we were growing... stronger.
In the time you have given me, I have rebuilt our nation, I have rebuilt our strength, AND I have rebuilt our pride! Our enemies at home have been reeducated. We have given them new insights into our cause. On this day, we stand united once more. On this day, those driven to divide us will hear our voice! Best aspect of the Killzone lore is that the Helghast are not the true villain. The Helghast negotiated in good faith with Earth. Earth reneged on the deal when they realized that the best part of the deal went to a he Helghast. History is written by the victors. That is the most realistic aspect of Killzone Lore. The Helghast should be portrayed as the victors if there is to be another Killzone game. How entertaining it would be to see the Helgan people’s reversal of fortune.

Dead Space Church of Unitology.
I honestly don't know why the Helghast had American accents in Killzone Shadowfall.
Because according to the devs, the Helghan empire started as a mining conglomerate in the past, which may have had international members and employees (i.e. British, Americans, etc). Another theory is that 30 or so years have passed since the last extrasolar war on Helghan, and most Helghast immigrants might have mixed in with Vektan civillians before the construction of the Vekta-New Helghan wall (proof; the half breeds in Shadow Fall).
Half-breeds, citizens that enlist in the helghan armed forces for extra civilian perks (power, food, etc), the citizens of vekta are American, only true helghasts have a British accent, this is confirmed by lore
