Great article about this in the latest issue of The Road Rat (#9). It’s just an insane story. The brother, Prince Jefri, was the driving force behind the hoarding of cars. Their spending was appearantly vital in keeping Rolls Royce and other luxury brands alive during the 90s. They kept whole departments busy with customization of the vehicles before delivery. The brothers even bought a C-130J Hercules transport plane for bringing in the cars thirty at a time. Sadly it seems like 90% of the collection is scrap by now. It’s now considered an annoyance and embarrassment by officials in charge. Oh, and Jefri also had another hobby. The article mentions that he “kept a vast and constantly evolving harem, a diverse international buffet of around 40 models, actresses and escorts who were scouted and recruited from all over the world...”.
I've heard the same about harems and slaves still being kept in certain Middle Eastern countries. Pathetic. If not for Western investment and oil money, they'd still be living like it was 1925, like a lot of Africa.
What do you mean scrap? The cars are "unrestored" in collectors terms with like 0 miles on the odo and even in their current conditions are worth more than they were bought for. However, I dont think they ever going to go on the open market. EVER
@@tavo.B It’s a quote from the article in The Road Rat #9. Mike Sheehan is a Ferrari-dealer who is one of the few outsiders to have seen the collection. He tried to buy cars from the collection in 2002 without any luck. He says “ninety per cent of the cars are now scrap”. In the article Sheehan goes on to describe “McLaren F1s and Ferrari F40s ‘cooking in the sun’ in one glasswalled building; literally hundreds of 500 SLs and SELs left out in all weathers, windows open, ‘all totally destroyed’. Inside, rows of special bodied Ferraris and Bentleys decayed in the tropical humidity, tyres flat, seals perished, looms and ECUs all shot. Plus leather interiors bloomed with inch-thick mould in the airless confines of cars undriven since they left the factory”.
Sheehan also explains: “Every once in a while, someone with the right connection, on the right day, gets a car out of there”. So if you are a bigwig in the oil industry, having a meeting with Brunei’s ministry for oil, and you’re talking cars... You might end up with a F40 as a parting gift.

Materialism on an epic level.
I'll take my VW Jetta to 140 mph on my beloved Autobahn. That's fine with me.
The next fast and furious should be about a heist where dom and his crew does the most daring challenge to get the cars.
I heard about this decades ago, in one of the car mags. They said cars were dumped to make room. If they bought 100 of a car, dumping some to make room seems plausible!
I was lucky enough to come across a straight 12 cylinder Damler double six with twin super charger, only two ever built I think in 1934, in cheddar gorge in 1982, I wonder if he has it.
He collects them as a token of the love for his people, who dannot even afford a bike
I’m sure all the poor people of Brunei are so proud of this collection. Ridiculously absurd and sad.
The oil revenue in Brunei is the Sultans personnel income.
@@rodgerjohnson3375and? What’s you point? Let me guess, you’re defending him. Lovely.
@@69Muscle You are an idiot Steve. I am stating a fact as it was reported to me by a friend who was in country for several years. Now go to the local food bank and distribute government cheese and dried milk.

No mention of the 11 McLaren F1s that he owns/owned or the incredible run of Ferrari FX commissioned! Or the numerous Diablos, 959s, EB110s, etc.
Sad that I've known about this guy for like 20 yrs but still don't even know his actual name. "Sultan of Brunei" is the only thing I know.
that money is robbed from the people who are in poverty
if they liked a suit they bought 100 of them and they're all in the same color
cartoon vibes
7000 days is 20 years so this guy can drive different supercars everyday for 20 years with repeating any car!
I'll bet he has car's that he's forgot about not to mention that he hasn't had the chance to drive every single car yet.
Looks like my collection that I dream of every night
Nobody should be allowed to have this much wealth when there are people hungry and homeless around the world.
He doesn't have a 5 bullion dollar car collection. He thinks his countries money is his

I hope the guy at least donates the ones that need to be scrapped to make room.
If I had unlimited money I would definitely have a lot of cool cars, but I could never make myself order hundreds of the same car lol. My collection would look more like Manny Khoshbin's
If you have a car collection you must look after them which most people do, but his collection would need a full time

Very good King Sultan of Brunei,...People of Brunei very harmony
WTFF did I just read?
Its funny how people accuse the Sultan of being a tyrant. He’s actually a caring monarch who loves his people and God more than anything materialistic. He provides free healthcare, free education, free housing and no taxes other than road tax. Oil prices here are some of the lowest in the world coming in at 0.53 cents per liter. Not to mention the Sultan once helped guide traffic when one of his escorts passed out during his reign. You really can’t say the same for alot of other monarchs.
When I was a kid, I always used to buy the Guinness Book of World records at the book fair each year. I remember the Sultan was the richest guy in the world at the time, this was the early 90's. Must be nice, but then again I don't put any stock in family or royal money, that's not really earned. I hope he gives a lot to charity or something
This is so great full man all my dream cars
Nothing is sadder than a locked up beast :(
Nothing sadder than a beast in a cage ☹️
Nothing is more happier than seeing the people freed from his tyranny!
legend has it brabus shipped 50 7.3 amg w140 to sulten of brenei they did 227mph in 1990s and cost 250k in that times money
Don't let this distract you from that fact that Hector is going to be running 3 Honda Civic's with Spoon engines, on top of that he just came into Harry's and ordered 3 T66 turbo's with NOS, and a Motec system exhaust.
Insane that people have so much money to buy cars and milions of people have no food of water discuisting!!
This is unfair at a absurd level
F50s go for $3-4 million, not $480,000.
I've got to say I think a lot of the prices are a little low. Many of these cars have appreciated like crazy, especially the F40 which is going for like 40 million now.
The F40 is more like 1-2 million
Can't understand the negative comments...art is meant to be collected...and if it were not for him many of these cars may not have survived over time....kudos ...let's hope he opens a museum one day

@@sportshub107 Outside of the grotesque human rights violations, public beatings and executions, torture is legal, you can go to jail for 20+ years to life or even stoned to death if youre gay, the government can LITERALLY "pre detain" you if they think you are "going" to do a crime. Sharia law is practiced. There is no freedom of speech or media; heretical outbursts or criticisms of muslim culture is jail time or death.
