- This setting of Sh'ma Yisrael is one of the most prolific compositions of my dear mentor, the legendary Cantor Naftali Herstik who served as Cantor of The Jerusalem Great Synagogue for over 25 years. It was such a blessing to celebrate Cantor Herstik with many colleagues and friends this past November at the Hamptons Synagogue.

Hello. I am 65 years old male. I only met my grandfather once but was told he was a cantor. Is there a way to find out the where the synagogue was? His name was Louis Schenfeld and he and my grandmother, Sarah came to U. S. in 1922. I believe it was Brooklyn or Philadelphia.
Mark Scheinfeld do you know when and where he died? There might be an obituary that says where he sang.
MsBettyR. I only saw him once when I was 4. I believe he died in 1973. His son, my father, died when I was 10 in 1963. I just remember Louis was a cantor. He died in Brooklyn I think.
I hope you found your answer, Mark.
I love your voice, but this wasn't the "Sh'ma" I was expecting. I suppose it stands to reason there are more than one. Also, I was wondering when the men behind you were going to join in, but they never did.
GUT SHABBES
Nice work, but a pity that it was not according to the original work ...
There are variations to the songs, but there is only one God, eternal and indivisible, the creator of all. No split.
