And vice versa. There are also interviews where he says something positive about kirk and that he saw how much he was working to improve. (lars not so much^^)
kind of shocking to hear him mention crowded house but I agree with him. Neil Finn is a tremendously underrated songwriter and it should be said that Neil has an amazing ability to balance pop-y tunes with oddball arrangements and instrumentations.

Maybe The Beatles are not the main influence in heavy metal, but are surely the main influence in the bands who influence heavy metal. Black Sabbath above all them, Led Zeppelin, The Jimi Hendrix Experience... There's no discussion about if The Beatles are the main influence in all that came after them or not. Nobody denies they are. And of course it's for their experimental work from Rubber Soul on. Their first albums not being bad, are just rock and roll, the fashionable sounds of that moment. But there on, they changed all what music was going to be. From lyrical themes (Taxman could be the first protest song) to structures, effects, instruments, recording technics... That's why musicians of all styles, from pop to death metal show respect for them and cover their songs. You can't hate Black Sabbath if you like metal and you can't hate The Beatles if you like music in general.

Trevor Corcoran, fanatism use to be the problem. There's good things everywhere. Actual pop use to have amazing bass lines. The Bee Gees had amazing bass lines. There's some great guitar work in Michael Jackson's albums. Bowie's first albums are awesome, and a big influence in metal too. Ben Harper is one of the best guitarists and songwriters I've heard, even being a "duerme ovejas" (who make sheeps sleep). I hate Bob Dylan singing, but he may be the best song writer ever, and I love his songs when played by another one. And I've listened Dylan's covers from Jimi Hendrix to Nick Cave or Rage Against The Machine. It's stupid not giving a chance to something because it doesn't look the way you like. I heard a cover of 21st Century Schizoid Man by Entombed awesome. Then listened to In The Court of The Crimson King and it was the only song I liked in the album, but well, i found a great song. And maybe I should give them another chance, it was in my teen years, not so open minded.
James has a more listener-friendly voice and rhythm style. Dave's voice works in the framework of Megadeth and his rhythm playing is light years more advanced than James although James usually features better overall sounding rhythm tones. My favorite album of all-time is "...And Justice For All", the most complex Metallica album and James' rhythm playing still never comes close to Dave Mustaine's rhythm playing. It's kind of difficult comparing the two because DM is so advanced in the guitar department. Hell, didn't he even teach James how to play somewhat? It certainly wasn't the other way around. Dave's actual 'weakness' (if there is one - barring his vocals) is his lead playing, believe it or not.
Mustaine on slash: He's brilliant; I love him. But then you see some guy like Buckethead… Buckethead is probably twice as good a guitar player as me and Slash combined.
Sorry I think they are dogshit. But you can have another opinion. It's not that I'm trying to be a contrarian, I just really can't stand their boring music, which doesn't have any gusto, and macho factor and nastiness to it and I can't see why metal bands would be influenced by them, but oh well maybe I looked but I didn't see......

I have heard that The Beatles apparently had a habit of never doing any memory recordings of any of the songs that they had just come up with, because they assumed that they would remember them very easily if they were catchy enough, and if they weren't that catchy then they just forgot about them and ditched them. Actually sounds pretty clever.

I still think, singing aside, Megadeth were the most "musical" of the metal bands. I love Metallica but I always thought they were manufacturers of music, rather than composers, in that they would come up with good riffs and stitch them together. And no one has a favourite Slayer guitar solo. Everyone in Megadeth seemed to have natural flow and musicianship.

Jerry Cantrell is one of rock’s greatest songwriters imo. AIC is legendary in just about every way imaginable. Idk why they don’t seem to get the credit they deserve sometimes. From Jerry’s immense song crafting and guitar playing to Layne’s astounding gift as a vocalist. It’s just nuts to me that they aren’t routinely considered one of the greatest bands of all time. And their songs could appeal to anyone really. From gloomy metal heads to suburban Karen’s with Rachel haircuts.

I'm really surprised how many of the thrash bands name the Beatles,, as Major influences. just shows you that class is permanent. You start out listening to mussic, of all types, then youu find your niche that you like most and blaze your own trail. So many people assume that just because the end product ends up as a pparticular type of music, there is no way they could have been influenced by something so far removed. I'm pretty sure that if Lennon had been born in the seventies, he would have ended up a heavy metal, or thrash metal artist. Of course, that kind of stuf wasn't around in the fifties, so he had to create it himself E.g.: I think parts of "revolution" and "helter-skelter" are touching on Heavy metal, Amongst others

I still think, singing aside, Megadeth were the most "musical" of the metal bands. I love Metallica but I always thought they were manufacturers of music, rather than composers, in that they would come up with good riffs and stitch them together. And no one has a favourite Slayer guitar solo. Everyone in Megadeth seemed to have natural flow and musicianship.
Nailed that one on the head, especially during their classic period.

Jerry Cantrell is one of rock’s greatest songwriters imo. AIC is legendary in just about every way imaginable. Idk why they don’t seem to get the credit they deserve sometimes. From Jerry’s immense song crafting and guitar playing to Layne’s astounding gift as a vocalist. It’s just nuts to me that they aren’t routinely considered one of the greatest bands of all time. And their songs could appeal to anyone really. From gloomy metal heads to suburban Karen’s with Rachel haircuts.

I'm really surprised how many of the thrash bands name the Beatles,, as Major influences. just shows you that class is permanent. You start out listening to mussic, of all types, then youu find your niche that you like most and blaze your own trail.
So many people assume that just because the end product ends up as a pparticular type of music, there is no way they could have been influenced by something so far removed.
I'm pretty sure that if Lennon had been born in the seventies, he would have ended up a heavy metal, or thrash metal artist. Of course, that kind of stuf wasn't around in the fifties, so he had to create it himself E.g.: I think parts of "revolution" and "helter-skelter" are touching on Heavy metal, Amongst others
