Update: the toothpaste consistency was PERFECT!!! I’ve been using it ever since. Thank you!!! 😍😍 So I totally did the manufacturer directions (1 powder : 2 dev) earlier today (mixing it your way with the comb) with Pulp Riot Clay lightener and it came out great on my mannequin…but…it was still moist on the outside when I rinsed it…so no shell ever developed. Just now, I mixed it to consistency of toothpaste (approx 1:1) and applied to my own hair for face framing pieces on my own virgin hair. I will update but I hope a shell develops this time with the thicker consistency! 😍
So glad I saw this video!! Am about to Balayage with Ion's Black Clay Lightener. Had read a comment somewhere online where someone was complaining how horrid this Clay was to apply, and was very concerned until this GREAT video. So with toothpaste in hand, will be mixing up in a little while. TY
@@dawnbradley After hours of gaining info, I BOTCHED it. Think partly I did not put enough of the clay on where I wanted it. Couldn't get it to go on thick enough, and started using my fingers. Previously, I had not dyed my hair for 5 months. 2"+ gray around hairline. 75% gray. 1st, used semi-permanent color on my roots and overall. Rinsed/let dry. Didn't cover all grey, Next..the balayage. Rather than baby light weave. I wanted wider weave blending into roots, liking dimension. I did go heavy using my fingers in areas in front/framing. Results: Overall my hair looks like a medium auburn with almost blonde.. strips around me face. Hard to explain. Can't see much unless I put up in a ponytail. I used a (Wella Demi toner afterwards) Hard to do my own shoulder length, thick, wavy/curly hair, but don't have money for colorist.
Don’t do what this woman says. Follow the manufacturer’s directions. If you want a toothpaste consistency find a product that will create that when you follow the manufacturer’s directions. Not only will it make sure you get consistent results, but you will be protected by your insurance. If you don’t follow manufacturer’s directions and something goes wrong, your insurance most likely will not cover you.
Thanks for watching! Are you gonna try this mixing technique soon?
Sure am. In about 3 hrs from now. Thank YOU 💙

Hey Dawn..can you tell me how to mix a thick bleach powder and developer for bayalage?
Ok pleaseee what volume do you use with clay lightener for max lift and what volume do you use for 2-3 levels of lift?
Can you make a clay lightener over a regular powdered bleach?
Do you mix non clay lightener the same?
Gonna try this tomorrow at work . Cuz rn with the heat my product always gets runny so fast and liquify , which then creat bleeding y=-=y
how did it go?
Totttally gonna grab a comb
Yass!! Let me know how it goes Rachel!! Have you ever tried it before??
@@dawnbradley totally love it!! I'll be doing it this way from now on!!
@@intherough420 yass! Omg that makes me so happy!!
Make sure there’s no clumps though ? Correct? Want to make sure it’s mixed well? It doesn’t
No matter what I do clay lightener never lightens enough
It will never lift as much or as quickly as a foil.
