I'm always shopping whenever I see Jeff's bike, lol. This was packed full of wisdom. I feel lucky to be benefitting from Jeff's years of experience. Many thanks for sharing!
Thanks for testing all of the items you carry - everything I've purchased from your shop fits and works perfectly! I never have to send stuff back, etc. it always works primo'!
Good tip on the rear axle nut. I use a sharpie and put a dot on the axle nut and chain block adjuster so I will know if it moves. Easy to check before each ride. I have had them loosen on ktm and beta just trail riding
Always good info! Any chance that you’d do a vid on what you carry in your backpack and or fanny pack? I’ve tried to get the weight low and use a klim fanny with a small lobo camelback, it definitely helps but probably go back to the backpack for fall/winter rides.
Thankyou Jeff for all the tech vids and the great service I get from your store when I order parts or have questions. I'm wondering if you can do a vid on what range of torque wrenches those of us who do our own service and upgrades need. I"m getting ready to do a top end and some fork work. I'm not sure if I need several torq wrenches. Thanks
Hello Chris: I've already made a video about torque wrenches but we are waiting to post it when we are stocked up on wrenches. For a top-end rebuild you only need the 3/8" drive wrench, slavensracing.com/shop/digital-torque-wrench-bike-master/ .
I think in the long term it possibly cheaper to fit a new air filter each time over here twinair are £16 by the time you buy the cleaner and oil and the time it takes to clean and dry them it’s a ne brainer really 👍
Good video. Have you done any videos on electric wiring? Seems to me that KTM overtightens/over-straps a lot of their fine wiring around the handlebars/behind the headlight. Also their wiring protecting rubber for larger wire collections have a tendency to crack to early allowing water to enter. Maybe poor materials? Wiring issues may result in weird kind of failures due to short circuit issues....any thougts or best-practice tip would be appreciated.
No plans for a wiring video. I've only been doing this for a short time, 50+ years, and have never seen an issue with KTM wiring. Maybe if you leave your bike outside 24/7/365 you would experience issues.
I have them on all of my bikes. No leaks. People love to obsess about minor issues. If anything we sell has a legit problem that the manufacturer does not quickly resolve, we drop them.
Good question! The side knobs and 3/4 knobs control turning. When they get rounded or damaged it's time for a new tire. Weird is not applicable but less traction is.
Nice video… but I do believe people over do it on changing air filters every ride. A properly oiled filter will not allow dirt through even if completely filthy..yes air flow will eventually be reduced but not by a lot. But the real reason I believe this change every ride schedule is a bad idea is that it increases the chance of introducing dirt inside the engine. I think this is a major cause of premature piston and cylinder wear. I’m very meticulous but I know most are not and pulling a dirty air filter I would bet 75% of people knock a bit of dirt inside intake. Much better off running filter a few rides and not changing constantly. Certainly works for me.
I have several bikes, so it varies greatly. I usually sell my 300s when they have 2500 to 3000 miles BUT I'll be selling one soon that only has 52 miles.
@@slaverace1 I mean no disrespect but it happened to me. I had to open everything up and reapply grease. I ride in hard places. Sometimes i fall and when the bike falls ,lot's of fuel goes into the triple clam....
@@mulimen1 Hello, I’m confused by your response. Try pouring or spraying something down the hole where I have my hose. It comes out the bottom of the steering stem and on to the fender. The stem does not have side holes going to the bearings.
@@slaverace1Maybe you don't fall a lot like i do :). maybe if the bike fall a lot ,then it's enough for the fuel to get to the bearings. i don't have a profesional answer but i swear to you it was happened to me. the handlebar started to get stiff and when i opened the triple clamps and play with the bearings with my own hands , it was stuck. not moving at all. then i sprayed it with brake cleaner and apply greese. it solve the problem. i will mention that the bike is ktm tpi 2021 six days italy ,and it was happened to me after 30 hours. it has to be because of the fuel. my friend who is a mechanic for many years told me he knew about this problem and he think it's a terrible design to put the fuel hose inside the triple clamps. I have no mechanical understanding. Just telling my experience. There may be another explanation for what happened to me. thank you for your replies
Everyone has to start somewhere. Beginner level riders, and many others, do not know how to do maintenance, but they deserve to have fun on a dirt bike.
Thank you Jeff for giving back to the enduro community and looking out for your customers!
Our pleasure!

You're welcome.
A witness mark with a sharpie on all torqued bolts and nuts saves me time. just a visual inspection is required.
Great video Jeff, thanks for posting
You are very welcome
Great video as usual Jeff! I will have to admit that that Matte Black rear shock spring look really nice!! I enjoy your videos.

Any info on that rear shock? Love your informative videos, keep up the good work.

Great video as always; Do you use bar risers.? Thanks
Yes, 15mm. slavensracing.com/shop/mako-handlebar-riser-kit-by-xc-gear/
Do you have a preference in coolant? Motorex? What are your thoughts on Engineice, Evans?
Motorex, Engine Ice, Evans... they are all good!
It looks like you have a stock muffler. Are spark arrestors not required where you are?

How has your carbon up clutch been holding up? I've heard about issues of subpar gaskets inevitably leading to oil leaks. Thanks!

How do you tell when a front tire is wearing out? Aside from obvious tread damage. Does it get to point where it starts to feel weird?
Good question! The side knobs and 3/4 knobs control turning. When they get rounded or damaged it's time for a new tire. Weird is not applicable but less traction is.

Start with a six pack & 8mm wrench !
And some tequila shooters
What’s the tape on the side of the frame called? Want that for my frame

Hi jeff, what's your average amount of miles you put on during your rides ?
I have several bikes, so it varies greatly. I usually sell my 300s when they have 2500 to 3000 miles BUT I'll be selling one soon that only has 52 miles.
Most important thing is get out & ride… 👍
Why is your fuel breather pipe goes into the triple clamp? it's melts the grease and makes the steering stiff
Hello
The steering stem is hollow. Fuel or vapors drain out the bottom of the stem and never touch the bearings.

You have all this nice suspension and you don't bleed the forks?!
Who said I don't bleed the forks?
Really.
People don't know how to do maintenance after a ride(probably in general).
Then they should not be riding.
