As someone who used to be hyper competitive in Payback. Here is a good trick. Play with manual transmission rather than auto. When drifting through a corner downshift to what ever the favored gear of your car is (usually 2nd or 3rd) and you will get crazy acceleration out of the corner (more than Automatic will allow). Not all cars get this benefit as they can have shit gearing. Things like the RSR, 302 mustang, Pagani, and such have great gears for doing it. Drifting is also way faster than trying to grip, the under-steer is way too aggressive.
Speed card system, the stupid courier side quests, the sorry excuse for police in the game are the reasons why I deleted this game the day I beat it. Without those things it coulda been one of my favorites. Bittersweet this one
I actually enjoy payback people call it pay to win or whatever but the best cars are earned from the campaign and the crates only give a small portion of money and such and cosmetics Edit: yes I like the rng aspect it's familiar to me thanks to other games
exactly it made the game more replayable cus u dont just buy the best parts u can make actual builds w different or macthin set bonuses, depending on the car or even race type 🤯
To me, this game would have been the best NFS if it wasn’t for the protagonist (Tyler Morgan’s one liners), the antagonist (Lena Navarro, Worst Female Racing Villain of Color [worst in all 4 realms]), and the Speed Card system. A lot of folks will say that the track is the worst but I really liked it. The only thing, I think they should have made the imaginary Las Vegas strip bigger and as neon as Underground 2’s Fountain area and a bit bigger. Lots complained about the 5 car systems. But making money was practically easy with the betting system since you didn’t need to pay for upgrades. Besides, I liked having more cars in the garage. Wish EA gave more derelict than Free Cars when they were ending service to the game. Think I missed only 1 car during that time! And you started breaking the game using Eddie’s Skyline instead of your starter!😂 You went on hard mode and started falling off hard!
I agree except I also think Tyler Morgan is a very good protagonist and his one liners add more awesomeness to the game, and Lina Navarro is a very good antagonist, and the card system is the best upgrade system they've ever had in an NFS game.
I agree with the Tyler Morgan one-liners, but there were just too many. 😅But if we’re really thinking about it correctly, we all would be talking sh!+ too! We’re just mad he’s saying what we want before what we’re thinking! 😂 Now Lena, (on the other hand) I wouldn’t call her a true antagonist! She was a sub-boss acting as the real boss and I feel that that’s what really threw everyone off about her character, status, and depth as a boss character. The true antagonist was THE HOUSE and we did not beat or end the boss character like we’re used to with Eddie, Razor, or Darius! She was underling turned throwaway, and for a good majority, that was not satisfying enough! Card system was an okay alternative….. but most NFS Fans are car enthusiasts! During the days of the first Hot Pursuit (Need For Speed 3), it was about having the most custom cars that either gave a better style than the original or broke the game entirely (I had downloaded a car that would go 0-300 mph in 6 secs). Nowadays, full customization is the meta! I liked that I did not have to grind monetarily for performance upgrades! But, plenty of us liked earning enough to put a turbo or supercharger on your ride. Get a good set of performance tires. Improve the handling and having a set of performance shocks and struts. This system could have worked if they would have done like Underground 2 and have it that we could customize parts never customized before. Like selecting the exact shocks that will be fitted on your car (different colored/branded shocks with adjusters) vs. just buying shocks and not being able to see them! Let us add in a Rollcage (had to wait for Unbound for that option)! Make your car a convertible (Ghost did that with the next game, Heat)! Painting the engine bay/trunk (last done in Underground 2)! Or for a greater majority of us, where is the f-ing Dashboard and Steering Wheel?!?!?! Unless you’re a fan of Shift 1 or Shift 2, we haven’t seen that done (by the developers) since Hot Pursuit 2 or Porsche Unleashed! I really like Payback, my previous statement was only stating why most of the fan base gave this game pause or why it wasn’t liked at that time!
@@kingpin201 You make some good points. My problem though is that I didn't grow up in the classic nfs era. I'm fact my first NFS game was 2015. But those definitely sound like cool things those games had.
@@randomdudeface - yyyyyeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh, I’m literally 41…….! So, I’ve played almost every NFS game that came out except for the Nintendo (cartoonish) variants, and Shift 2. My first NFS game was Need For Speed 2, but we’re close to 30 games in the franchise, I believe! Though I did purchase the game and wanted to wait until I beat the first Shift. I haven’t finished Undercover(buggy and disappointing mess on console, fear of playing on pc…. Even with mods), Hot Pursuit 2 (was hooked on God of War during the time), either Shift (wanted to sim race the whole game), Hot Pursuit 3 (or Remastered, same game) Most Wanted 2012 (Beat all MW cars, but want to unlock all mods for all cars), NFS 2015 (playing that currently with a sim rig, waiting on handbrake), Payback (beat the Story, gotta beat all members of the House), and have yet to play Unbound. Need to fix my PC for the current moment, waiting on a Titan RTX gpu and a new steering wheel to get that going!
the protagonists is just fast and furious crew wannabe but atleast they tried I mean the game don't have much of a bigger budget and the game also take place when ea got quite greedy but hey atleast break to drift makes the game fun and upgrade system makes my cars feel fresh everytime I upgrade the card
I don't think Payback is a bad game, the only things I don't like is how bad the performance upgrade system is and the fact that there's no cops in free roam
NFS Payback was a good game, graphics wise and mechanics wise, the slot system was the worst thing about it, but also I started the game again with the grand national, my first playthrough was the golf, then the s20000, and now the grand national. Thank you for playing this game
I've literally speed-run this shit for Derelicts, and honestly I'm having a blast with this game, although grinding all these 'stars' to unlock customizations is annoying af.
shop card upgrade system and drifting were the only things i enjoyed from this game drifting was great the shop cards had set bonus like fkn rpg now its not just buy the best parts its oh i can optimize a build for each car or event and it wasnt pay to win u get plenty from just racing and goin to different shops if we had this system in unbound there wudnt be a 3 car meta in every class
Gameplay was fun, the only things I really didn’t like were the characters (particularly Ty, Mac was cool tho like you said) and the progression, not only the RNG performance upgrades but the way you unlock visuals edit: also certain missions where you had to drive a drag car for tight twisty tracks, that crap was stupid lol
I actually love payback as well. The only problem with it is the upgrade system. To me i enjoy the story, racing, and customizations. And the game is actually really challenging on hard unlike heat where it still feels extremely easy so as ling as you have a decently fast car
The problem is all the cars have the same topspeed i tested all of them maxed out and it top out 234 mph without boost but some car go around 237mph but u need the speedlist cars to even get little bit better top speed but it tops out 240 to 241 mph with no boost
Im gonna get so much hate for this but I actually like the game hahaha. I like the speed card system because it keeps me entertained and I may or may not like to gamble a little too. I guess that's why I like it. and I also liked the story gave me the same good feeling HEAT did. Yes drifting is easy but it was also really fun for me. my cars were also the r34 RACE, Mustang BOSS 1970 OFFROAD, CAMERO ZL1 for Tess, Doms charger for Drag, RX7 DRIFT, these cars always got me wins in online as well. and back to the speed cards I guess I always got really lucky cause I always got good cards
This honestly one of most mediocre games I've ever played. To my mind, a mediocre game is worse than an outright bad game. A bad game was almost certainly never going to be good, but a mediocre game had the potential to be good. It's the last NFS game I've tried and ever will try (I will NOT give EA another cent for as long as I live).
I actually enjoyed payback. the only thing I didn't like was that there were no cops in free roam. I thought the missions were really cool and cinematic and I was hoping that we were going to get more of that in heat and unbound but nope. Btw, part of why it was so easy for you cuz that Skyline is at a 319 rating, the early events needed not even 200

there's quite a bit to like about this game:
the vehicles
Mac
the racing (except drag)
rav
the vehicle customization
offroad is worse
Ye
The diamond block drag races were hella fun though
@iamportalmaster fr bro they keep ramming u off the offroad ( is very annoying during the mission : high stakes , its from the "hazard company " crew
If it wasnt for that fucking slot machine part shop i think it would be liked

You should move your face cam and chat up a bit so it doesn’t cut off the speedometer

Wait how'd you get all those cars in the beginning? Is it the deluxe edition or something?
I think its the deluxe edition

I never finished it because how bullshit that farming money by playing the races again and again in order to progress is.
