My dude - you have both the emotional & hard skill intelligence to go far in this community - excellent content story-boarding & editing to explain the complexities of a simple task - love it!
All ground strokes (forehand & backhand, grips and footwork) AND net strokes (grips and footwork) AND usage tips in one video. Chef's kiss perfect. Seriously. That good.
My backhand is solid and preferred, but my forehand is weak and this video was extremely helpful. One of the best of viewed! The explanation and diagrams on grip was very helpful. Thanks much.
I prefer my backhand. I have a cut backhand that is notoriously lethal as a service return when I get it deep. So many of their 3rd shots go in to the net from the backspin I create. I also feel much more comfortable with a backhand side spin serve where I literally slash across the ball. I get it in consistently as well. My weakness is forehand cross court. Addicted to this game now! Have withdrawal when I don't play for a day! Once I learned the strategy of 3rd shot drops, resets, and topspin lobs instead of just driving my game improved immensely! Thanks for your help as well!
Perfect timing, thanks! Been playing for over a year and just realized much of my game has advanced - and I've regressed on some fundamentals like my drive. Cool that you're getting your siblings into the channel
Excellent video! Love this channel.. the small one thing I would add (especially for beginners) is after footwork, just making sure to bend their knees on ground strokes. I see many make the mistake of "standing to tall" and the brush of top spin doesn't allow them to get under and behind the ball enough and it sails. That slight to moderate knee bend can make a world of difference! 🙂
Thanks for the excellent breakdown on forehands and backhands! I use continental grip on all my shots and the insight on grips was great! I’m going to experiment with eastern grip on my forehand drills and see if it makes a difference…thanks!
I love your videos. Thank you. I have come to the conclusion after 30 years of tennis and 4 years of pickleball that you really don't need to go to the side to hit an effective forehand. In fact by insisting on doing it there is no time and it messes me up. I think you're almost better and concentrating on planting your feet and planting them where they are. I would go so far as to say even if my right foot is more in front of my left foot and I'm a right-hander it's completely fine. I've tested this theory with a radar gun and it turns out to be pretty much the same no matter what my legs are as long as they are planted. What say you? I think this could revolutionize things. I don't think people need to turn anymore. As a matter of fact physically I think you're paddle has less movement and less chance of error if your right foot is closer to the net.. try it !
Thanks for your videos! About the 2-handed BH--I only suggest using this style if the player already has already developed a reliable 2-hander in tennis. IMO, from scratch, a OHBH is always the best option to learn in PB!
Great tips. Coming from a tennis background and making that mental switch has been challenging but in a good way. Just started two months ago. Definitely, they key is to just get out there and play with different player levels. Slowly and surely getting there. Thanks Connor
I'm at 3 1/2 months and try to play 4 times a week. I had to stop playing tennis to focus on the fundamentals of pickleball and the game is starting to "slow down" for me. It'll come for sure.. do great in your journey and just be patient with yourself, you have a great foundation for an awesome game!! 😊
In table tennis BH is my automatic/natural shot. In tennis and PB, FH is automatic. I switched to a 2BH in tennis 10 years ago ... glad I did because 2BH is perfect for doubles PB. Shorter reach isn't a liability and is great at the net for speedups. 1BH is still a classy shot in my book (i.e., Stan Wawrinka, Diane Parry).
2:00 The way I've understood it, an inside out forehand also means that you direct the ball cross court after taking the forehand from the backhand side. You'll often hear of the "inside-in" forehand, which is when you run around your backhand and then proceed to hit the shot down the line.
You are absolutely correct. Came here looking for this comment. There are not multiple meanings to inside out. Only the one that you described. Otherwise a good video. Not trying to undermine his credibility. He’s got some good info.
Since you asked, I do prefer my backhand, largely because my forehand is deficient and not natural to me. I play left handed and I am mixed ambidextrous. I sometimes describe that as neurologically confused. My mixed ambidextrousness means that I throw, paddle, eat and write left handed but do everything else right handed. Right handed tasks include batting, mousing, golf, archery, long gun and pistol. I can bowl and box either way. On the whole, it’s a curse.
I feel like this technique only works if your short. I'm taller and having my paddle that far back causes my balls to hit the net or out. Even with topspin. I would have to get very low to swing that far back and keep a closed stance
Great content, as always. And like you, my BH somehow feels more "natural". That said, I have a bad habit of taking my eye off the ball when the incoming ball will be an "easy" BH return. UGH. Any tips on how to break that habit. That costs me way too many points.
why is a forehead or backhand drive explained any different than a return of serve(other than moving right toward the kitchen) which seems you would do in a drive as well??
I have a question. After a game, players go up to the net and greet each other saying "good game" and pad with paddles. I see so many people pad with grip end instead of paddle end. What is that about?

Sounds great!
This is one of the best PB instructional videos I have seen..well done!
Wow, thanks!
My backhand is solid and preferred, but my forehand is weak and this video was extremely helpful. One of the best of viewed! The explanation and diagrams on grip was very helpful. Thanks much.
Great to hear!
I really like the strategy mixed in with the technique. Super helpful to know when and why to use a shot, and not just how.
Great instruction on the footwork! As a newbie, I've struggled with that. Turn your feet first makes it so simple. Thank you!
excellent quality of instruction. thank you for taking the effort to make this video. very nicely done!!

I'm the exact same, love that BH slice with sidespin mixed in. I come from Table tennis side and am now getting addicted.
This video has to be the Best I've seen. It is FULL of Great info.
Thank you so much.
EXCELLENT!!!
Perfect timing, thanks! Been playing for over a year and just realized much of my game has advanced - and I've regressed on some fundamentals like my drive. Cool that you're getting your siblings into the channel
Great to hear!
I have been wanting to learn the two handed backhand. Your level of detail is excellent; thank you for a great video.

I favor my forehand but get more enjoyment from a sweetly hit backhand drive because it was always my downfall as a beginner so I savour it now 😅
This is great. You do an amazing job explaining the various techniques. I too prefer my backhand (2handed 😊)
Great tips. Coming from a tennis background and making that mental switch has been challenging but in a good way. Just started two months ago. Definitely, they key is to just get out there and play with different player levels. Slowly and surely getting there. Thanks Connor

I seriously learned a lot. Very informative. And backhand all day long.
Love your videos. It’s a lot of content. 10 minutes is ideal.
Great Tips! My Fav-back hand!

@@robertday5299 Agreed. I meant "also" to indicate "additionally required", not "alternative".
I didn’t know there was a different shot other than forehands and backhands. Great video tho haha. I love this guy.

Thanks easy to understand!
Some great tips in here! Thanks 👍
Great tips and well explained. Thank you
Thanks Coach. Could you put a link to drop shot detailed video.

I like backhand more but prefer slicing with it. I need to learn how to use to hands on it with more topspin. Any tips?

I have the same problem. I try to remind myself to look for the holes on the ball. Keeps me more focused.
How do you transition between eastern and continental grip during a game to stay lined up to the correct form for each shot?
For forehand topspin drives/ground strokes, is the paddle face closed, open, or vertical/straight at the point of contact?
Backhand definitely
Back hand is my fave
You recommended Eastern grip for forehand and continental for backhand. So you are altering your grip between shots?
Yes
In tennis the backhand grip you are using is an Eastern backhand grip to hit the drive or top spin backhand, it's not a continental grip.
When your demonstrating a stoke, if you could, show it in slow motion, thanks
Prefer backhand....excellent video!!
Glad you liked it!
like forehand and backhand...as you have stated many times...resetting your footwork is key...

I see so many people pad with grip end instead of paddle end. What is that about?
They don’t want to damage their paddle heads.
I like both my forehands 😂😂😂
Forehand’s
Wheres Kennedi???
Not that backing up😳
Are
1 😀
🥰👏🏻💯👍🙏🇺🇸
I'm a lefty, and my backhand is better than my forehand.
Nowadays people want 3min video or shorts, long video is the past
The Plantation mentality is ending and he’s mad about it.
