Please make this segment at least 30 minutes! This is the best segment in Philippine media today. Insightful and no biases just plain facts.
Thanks!
It is so refreshing to listen to someone who clearly knows what he is talking about with a broad view across industries.
Many thanks
Many thanks for inviting me again
This segment I always look out for. Stop the idiotic chatter of others & have someone who knows what he's talking about! Madami kasi nabibida but actually may self interest or hidden agenda. You sometimes sound harsh but the truth nga will always come out. God Bless you Sir Stevie.
@@peterungson809 deeply appreciated
Stevienomics is never enough!!! It should be a 1-hour show!
Many thanks
Stevie cuunjieng is more enlightening and he’s knowledgeable. I agree with him 👍👍👍
@@Minnie--ru2ew thanks
Exactly
He is right, do not assume other countries will feed the Philippines. All countries will prioritize their own people first. It is imperative the Philippines becomes rice self sufficient. By neglecting the issue means the Philippines leaves itself vulnerable to starvation.
Many thanks
Wish I had a professor like Mr. Stephen Cuunjieng back when I was still studying.. For a student who has inclination or potential to study the interrelationship of business, finance and economics; learning could have been more interesting and encouraging..Like him who seems to me is an expert in his own field.
Many thanks. Only thing I can claim expertise in is investment banking. For the rest just intellectually curious and a critical thinker
@@scuunjiengGood day Mr Stevie if I want to be an Investment Banker in the Philippines where should I apply and what credentials should I have? Hope to hear from you soon.
@@scuunjieng Thats the thing about being a very good investment banker, you have to curious and a good critical thinker. Investments are complex with alot of moving parts, just apply the learnings there in geo-politics and viola! a more open understanding of the situation :)
Rice problem is not really difficult to solve, but most PH politicians will prioritize there pocket first rather the solving rice crisis...
Last year.. nagpatanim Kami Ng palay SA Amin Hindi kalakihang Lupa, gumastos Kami Ng MGA 55k at kumita Kami Ng 57500 so MGA 2500k Lang...
It's obviously the department of agriculture don't know what they're doing 😅😅😅
Honestly, this gentleman should write a book. The wisdom is just flowing across the board. His commentaries are an expensive treat, and we get it for free! Thank you Sir!
Many thanks
Ganito dapat ang kinukuha presidential adviser,/ cabinet member. Pwede makipagsabayan sa international.
Thanks
give sir stephen his own anc show please 🙏🙏🙏
been watching his interviews din sa one news ph; such an excellent resource person talaga 💯💯💯.
Deeply appreciated
Let's take care of our farmers , lucky kasi mayroon pang nagtityaga magsaka, mga kabataan ngayon Wala nang alam sa pagsasaka at ayaw nang magsaka dahil walang magandang kinabukasan sa pagsasaka , yan Ang nakikita nila
Make this a segment please! Its rare to see an interview where a competent person knows deeply in this issue.
Many thanks
Stevie has usually given us very candid and insightful sessions, this one though has a particular edge to it maybe because the issues discussed hit close to home in terms of what's in the public consciousness and discourse nowadays - food security, inflation, and territorial disputes. So thanks for helping enrich the discourse, ANC and team!
Many thanks
More of him please. Stevienomics Weekly Episode or Podcast 😍😅
Many thanks but don’t have the time.
Wow! Sir you hit the nail in the head there! presenting facts and a sensible solution that's very rare now, specially with our politician we are paying them just to grand stand. Keep it coming Sir.thanks.
Many thanks
More people should listen to this.
Thanks
Years of neglect, today’s woe.
Many thanks
Mr. Cuuenjieng, thanks for this eye-opening talk. Congress should pass a law requiring politicians to watch Stevienomics.
In a country where rice security is tantamount to food security, it is sobering to hear about the Philippines' dismal rice production numbers that make rice import a matter of national survival. (Pardon the hype there.) Am afraid that the curse of geography has locked the country's destiny to become a forever rice importer. Thousands of islands with limited flat land suitable for rice cultivation. Millions of poor rice farmers with small landholdings that make scaling up difficult. Climate-change-induced disruptions of the rice planting calendar. Add typhoons to the mix.
I wonde who are the politicos who stay awake at night thinking of solutions to the problem. And who are thinking of how they can profit from the coming rice shortage?
deeply appreciated
Mr Cuunjieng, a banker who knows it all
Thanks
"bellyaching! emotional" !!! mr. Cu unjieng , great description!!!! 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
Many thanks
If we want to improve rice production then some form of well directed subsidy must be implemented. It may be that the carrying capacity for our land has been irrevocably breached by our bursting population. This war in Europe will make the situation even worse fertilizer and wheat prices affected. Lets hope our neighbors keep on producing surpluses of rice if not we will have to find substitutes for rice. In end high rices will force us to change our food preferences.
Our biggest national security problem is uncontrolled population growth, specially among the poorest.
We have pampered the poor by giving free health services, free education and financial support.
The government never told them how much it cost for free health services, and free education up to tertiary level.
The end result is a mendicant mentality among the poor who can barely feed themselves yet keep on making more babies.
Let us challenge our poor kababayan to assume some responsibility than letting everything comes from the government, including free housing
Whereas we are limited to four children to avail of GSIS ot SSS benefits.
As for education, we have to pay for the tuition of our children.
Philippines 2nd largest rice importers in the world. But our national leaders lack of support from the past to the present have not done enough to improve and secure food security measures to ensure our citizens will not be starved in case Rice exporting countries stopped or imposed too high prices unaffordable for Filipinos.
PNoy time we are the fastest rice producer 2014. But sh*t happened, when I said sh*t happened people voted Duterte. We go backwards!
New month new segment ulit from mr Stevie. Thank you for giving us your time every month
Many thanks
Very enlightening Mr. Cuunjieng. Especially about that concept of effective occupation in field of geopolitics.
Many thanks
Nakakalungkot
Why are you so intelligen Stevie. Learned a lot from all of your interviews..
Many thanks. Don’t know if I am so intelligent but I am intellectually curious and a critical thinker rathe than just a follower
We should have highly qualified technocrsts with the likes of Mr Cuunjieng as advisors who can provide high value inputs to the current Administration. .The Philippines is being left behind its neighbors. Vietnam is a relatively new democracy (compared to the Phils.) but has double our country's capacity in terms of power generation, rice production (net.exporter) attracting more FDI (foreign direct .investment). There has to be an "apolitical" medium to long term development plan to address the structural issues to become a self sufficient rice producer. And this plan should not be limited to one administration but be continued in the next several administrations.
Many thanks
I hope people will realize that some senators are not sincere in what they're saying. Some of them are just grandstanding.
I could almost hear them say "Let them eat cake", like Kumareng Marie A.
Our rice shortage and dependence is an embarrasment, we need to support our farmers to have a better more rewarding life so they become more productive and stop selling their lands to land developers. There should be a serious oversight
With the importation of rice since there are people getting fat rich out of importation of rice to the ph.
@CanadianBisdak527 yes that to with regards to rice research. Such a disappointment
I hope mr Stephen can talk about the health care industry in the Philippines
how about the issue on shortage of stevienomics videos? its only once a month!?!?
Touche. Unfortunately that is all I have time for and you all might tire of me if more and quality may drop as well! Thanks but you give me too much credit.
Stevie nice to hear from you again! Keep up the good work! What's your take on farm cooperatives in the Philippines?
Thanks. We need them and with best practices.
More more of this smart and unbiased man, Stephen Cuunjeing! That’s a very short time given to him. Should be longer or he can have his own show.
Many thanks
Hindi nakakasawang makinig sa guest niyo. Very informative and substantial ang mga sinasabi.
Salamat
I believe that large corporations should just rent farm lands, consolidate and hire farmers as employees with stock options or bonuses for working. I do not believe rice sufficiency can be attained without entrepreneurial initiative.
I believe what stevie has said that effective occupation is the best answer to our problem in wps. and thats what I thought also a long time ago, but it seems our politicians and leaders put so much fear in their mind about war with china..
If they are scared then how can you effectively occupy or deter a determined effective occupier?
@@scuunjieng Maraming salamat po for your reply, What I mean na sana noon pa they stood their ground, alam ko na may mamamatay pero thats the price we have to pay. We have a MDT with US sana noon pa na invoke na at hindi na nakarating pa ang mga mananakop halos sa tabi na ng ating bansa..
@@noelsantos8791 read the MDT it covers the Pacific Ocean and not the South China Sea. Think that was an accident?
@@scuunjieng Well we got alot of interpretation about MDT, but for me its just a high time to know what its all about isnt! cause we really cannot compete with a giant unless we have a big brother behind us!! i think its now or never.
@@noelsantos8791 just read what it says and the least favorable interpretation to us and the most favorable to the USA is what will apply since we will be the one asking for help
Very well said STEVIENOMICS...
Actually this country is so blessed in so many ways, starting with geography, various literate hard working professionals (human resources), natural resources etc...but nobody love this country at all...meaning no patriotic but only users and abusers. So, i guess we deserve what is going to happen to us😢

Proximity and legal possession provided by arbitral court. UNCLOS belong to the Philippines.
You been brainwashed there was no mentioned of Philippine ownership in that decision read it again Take note UNCLOS dont decide on sovereigty issue
Thank you for this

Very well said

...at the center of this all...how's the Secretary of Agriculture doing? 🤔
Great insight Sir Stevie!
Many thanks
Can something else be substituted for rice that could increase the food supply .
thank you
You are most welcome
Sir stevie never fails to impress! Always on point.
Thank you sir!

Thanks. Stevie the explorer. 😀
Thanks

Thank you Sir Stephen!
Thanks
So magtanim ay di biro?
unregulated importation is the problem of the country. if this is the case then we must also try to make small scale farming in our backyard. imagine if each family would farm rice on their rooftops?
"Depoliticize" is a keyword. Thanks.
Why aren’t their enough rice fields in the country? If India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and others are able to sustain their own. Why can’t we realistically start ramping up our own productions? Why depend on others? Coz when crisis starts we’ll hung dry.
Yes another Stevienomics! Thank you Sir Stephen always looking forward listening to your inputs. How I wish the movers in our government would only listen. Antagal na ng mga problema ng Pinas puro band-aid solution lang lagi and most of the time there is no continuation of a good project when there is a change in people in power.
Many thanks
Blangadash have water catchment to store rainwater for the farms during the dry season. So they plant rice all year round. Philippines can easily double to 24 million tons if there is 3 crop per year.
How about sa pacific islander hindi ba sila nag ra rice?
The best way to develop our agriculture first: the government should develop our river to avoid flood w/c discourage farmers because they can not harvest their rice.
i watched this almost 10x with teary eye. As a manufacturing ERP consultant, it's sad to see that I don't have local clients but 2 from vietnam (agro-industrial). I've been working for US manufacturers but sadly no one here to share my knowledge.
Its gets cut off when itt getting more interesting
Many thanks
For wisdom to be given to just one man is just incredibly unfair. Sana all😢😢😢.
I read a lot and engage in critical thinking!
This man should be an independent consultant for the president
Many thanks
Strongly agree
Trying to find a short term solution on a fundamental long term problem.
Philippines never included the islands in the West Philippine Sea in its defense treaty with the USA.
Too many people don’t study the issue and don’t realise this
Why next month?
Cant you not do it on a weekly basis?
Thank you for your kind requests but don’t have the time alas
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤💓
Many thanks
Can you please make the show longer. Sobrang bitin lagi!!! May I request Sir Stevie, sana magkaron ka ng sarili mong segment sa channel mo about those issues. Napakaraming matututunan sayo. Sana mapansin.
Salamat
Rice-lands must reduced or exempt from to induce rice planting.
Our neighbors did not have the longest running agrarian reform program in the history of the world. The inability to consolidate farmland to achieve economies of scale is still extant, yet even our socialist neighbors allow land to be put together.
you can't compare PH to Thailand and Vietnam they do have great rivers and not broken land mass. Chao Praya and Mekong River respectively are the main source of their water which is essential.
So what then just keep importing? Just because things are not identical does not mean too bad
@@scuunjieng for now, yes we need to import. We might also need to genetically modify our rice para mabilis syang magproduce ng rice.. let's say 3mos ang hihintayin bago maharvest ang rice, baka pwedeng 1 or 2mos nlng kapag naGenetically modify ang rice.
Just to recall, didnt we teach the Thais in regard to our rice technology back during the Marcos administration?
@@bayaniko6184 how much we taught at IRRI and how much they already knew and developed is conjecture
Weird that the anchor is actually smiling while basically saying we are doomed. 😥
Gusto kasi nila yan mangyari sa panahon no pbbm para maproved nila mali ang binoto nga tao.... any failures is music to their ears
@@igzqui7817give me a break! If bbm is as competent as you think he is then we would not be in this kind of mess. A lot of crisis remain unaddressed and have snowballed. Admit it or not the country has no direction.
@@aaronclaro153all this mess started when your tita Cory mothballed BNPP which is essential in a developing country specifically when you are beefing up manufacturing. Second, it was also in Cory's admin when she allowed conversion of agricultural land to residential/commercial. Third, economic restrictions from the 1987 Constitutions hampered our growth as compared to our neighboring countries which allow 100% foreign ownership benefited and developed faster than us
Effective occupation is correct. Use the money Philippines got fron the lease for US army base and build a proper island with Filipinos living on that island.
On record during marcos sr time we export rice...
Simply people dont want to do farming anymore. We are the source of nurses and engineers of the world. farming is not profitable, better go overseas work and send money back to family

should also hide Rice like what they did to onions
To increase the price of rice. 😂😂😂

What will happen to Philippines if no more Country selling rice?
Shout out sa tambaloslos administration ngayon

I’d ask the both of you.
Would you farm?
I rest my case…
Use Maharlika to make a private company in Africa and invest to plant food to deliver in PH like what other countries are doing.
we are 50 yrs overdue so wonder who were in charge of our govt administration during said period...haiiii
To the question of are we about to starve from lack of rice, he did not answer. It is an immediate problem, but he is talking about long-term problems.
Bitin
Singapore almost import all its agriculture products.. It we can't self sufficient n foods, cause of thypoons, be like Singapore
Educators failure to educate that pasta pancit bihon macaroni potato camote bread= to rice
How can the Philippines industrialize when we are not self sufficient in rice and even considered one of the biggest rice importers? What's the best we can do? Just import our people instead. As seamen, as nurses, as household help or as any kind of dollar earner who can feed their poor relatives left in the Philippines.
Sobrang bitin yung insight about China.
Maraming Salamat
hahahahaaaa well, we don't really have food security. and to ask our farmers to sell at below P20 is crap. that is exactly what BBM promised...blessings to all
Philippines, best importer in the world🎉🎉😂😂
Time to shift to a non-rice diet lol seriously, agricultural self-sufficiency has always been a problem in PH due to a lack of leadership cohesion. A fact that can easily be exploited by shrewd businessmen. It should be obvious that we should be self-reliant on the basics, and yet we’re not. Thanks for bringing awareness, as usual. And I hope the gov’t decision makers take notes while there’s still time to execute solutions.
Imelda used to plant rice
