    I love the Spendors! I can't wait for my D7.2s to arrive this week. I just ordered them from my local dealer, Audio Forum, in Berlin. I auditioned them together with a NAD M10 against similarly priced models with even pricier amplifiers and equipment from Monitor Audio, PMC, Sonus Faber, JMR Abcisse, Audium, B&W, and the Linn 140, and they played in a different league. Even my wife was so impressed that she considered paying for them, ignoring the "boring" design and lack of a high-gloss finish. The D7.2s blew us away after the first 20 seconds of playing difficult orchestral pieces from Rachmaninoff and Lou Reed. The level of detail, crisp bass, and overall smooth transition between mid and high and the clear separation of instruments, airiness and soundstage gave us goosebumps.

      I’ve got a pair of D7.2s and I’m absolutely loving them. I was interested on how they compared to PMC and Sonus Faber. What model of these two brands to you AB against?

      @@mitchellburns92 PMC Twenty 24i (less Bass Control and more expensive) and Sonus Faber Sonetto 8 (somehow blurry and no wow experience at all, I love the Olympic Nova series / cannot properly place them in my room but the Sonettos are somehow not performing in my ears at all). All of the competitors had deficiencies in separation of instruments in symphonies, often the lows somehow blurred the mid

      Yeah Reed’s orchestrations are complicated. It is the speed of these speakers across the frequency spectrum that won me over PMC Twenty5 24 and Sonus Faber Olympica Nova II

    I’ve a pair of the first series D7 in walnut and that’s the best review I’ve seen of a really ace speaker. My daughter has an ancient pair of Spendor BC1’s, still working. If I could afford it, the D9 would tempt me.

    He doesnt have to sell Spendor to me. I have had the classic 3/1 for several years now. I was originally a little underwhelmed. Over time and presently , i have come to love them and cannot see myself living without them. You do pay more for the privilege in North America. But even at that , i would whole heartedly recommend them to anyone looking for speakers at their price point, particularly for accoustic music.

    Have lived with the D7 since 2018 and love them, an excellent speaker, musical, precise, not laid back in the same way as Spendors are known for. I find them detailed, lively and dynamic and would describe the D-line as monitor like in character, ie: precise and revealing of everything - the recording, source etc.
    Would love to hear from someone who went from the original D7 to the D7.2.

      Hallo.
      Ich besitze die D7.2 und bin sehr zufrieden, die tonale Balance, die ganze Abstimmung ist wirklich hervorragend gemacht, sehr detailreich und trotzdem nicht anstrengend. Auch optisch sind sie perfekt gemacht!

      I own the D7.2 and they are the perfect speaker. Nothing to fault with the most gorgeous midrange, they scale unbelievably well when paired with very expensive gear. Honestly wouldn’t go to the 9s unless you have a large listening room. Room is always the most important first step to getting a system to sound its best and just as important as the room is to pick the appropriate size speaker for your space. Don’t overload the room.

      @@mitchellburns92 BTW, how do you find the bass with your D7.2 ?

    • @mitchellburns92
      @mitchellburns92 5 месяцев назад

      @@RR-kb2ks very dependent on the recording, if the track has the bass then the D7.2 will show it in spades with absolutely no need for a subwoofer. Sometimes I’m waiting more depending on the track but when I listen to a system that is more bass dominant I tend to feel it loses some pace and tempo compared to the D7.2s, those systems become a little sluggish, timing is a bit off and it’s too muddy in certain frequencies. I feel that no matter what floor standing I own I’d always enjoy a little more bass but that’s why we have REL 😍. If you have a big room go the 9s if not 7s are ideal. Don’t get sucked into something big that will overload your room, you’ll lose your soundstage.

      @@mitchellburns92 Been meaning to reply and say thanks for the share. I've just picked up a lovely pair of the D7.2, in my fave the dark walnut, to replace my beloved original D7, which I've thoroughly enjoyed since 2018, and the D7.2 are amazing ! I an so chuffed to bits, seriously over the moon. From the moment I connected them up, first track of one of my Jill Scott cd's, one I know inside out, i knew I was in for a treat. They are indeed a genuinely revised, improved version of the excellent original but, wow, they just take everything up a notch in terms of precision, bass is tighter, faster, they better resolve than the originals, are smoother, more composed when things get busy, they do everything I loved about the D7 but even better still overall. I could never find a review anywhere, from anyone who had gone from D7 to D7.2 but knew I would take the plunge at some point.For anyone pondering whether it is worth it, I can thoroughly recommend and say without reservation that if you enjoy your original D7 as much as I did, and have the equipment of quality to present changes in your system then the move is a no brainer, for the reasons I've expressed above - for me this has been no sideways move, but a genuine upgrade, The D7 is excellent but the D7.2 is without question the properly revised and improved version. I actually cant imagine the need for anything more, they are that good. When you think what speakers can cost, these are a bargain, more so if you can find a nice pair on the used market, snatch them, these are genuine high end, high quality, high-fidelity speakers - Spendor have done an amazing job! no wonder these get so much attention. Btw, a tip - The screws etc on system kit I find tend to loosen over time, and I've found the screws to the drivers on both my D7 and now D7.2 needed a tighten, as well as the screws under the plinth base of the speakers. I've always found that a general check and tighten of all system gear screws brings both benefit and improvement. Back to the D7.2, they are superb ! 🕺😍💫💫🎼🎼🎶🎵

      Have you heard these or are you just judging by how big the speakers are. I have the bigger version and there was nothing as detailed open clear and dynamic anywhere near the price. But because of that you really need to match them well with the other gear

      @@theaustralianconundrum My Spendor D9.2 were 15k or half the price of yours and I preferred them to the B&W's which I also have a lot of time for but which are just a little too clinical for my taste so I am still not sure how you can say the Spendors are overpriced. Quite the opposite I think but if you hear them inappropriately demonstrated as I did at the previous distributors showroom then you might be disappointed. They are fairly fussy about room / placement / toe in / cables front end gear / etc more than what is written about them. It is of course personal taste and I far preferred the D9.2's to the Spendor Classics that were also twice the price of mine and had that warm & big but far less detailed older Spendor sound.

    Tubes are crazy - I have two models of 5693 red hots - one is RCA and the other is CBS. Like you I find the CBS, with a crimped top, has better upper treble extension, better imagery and the low end just kicks - it sounds so real in my setup... RCA is a bit dull.. need to order another 20 of them soon actually....
