I love these lyrics. I'm not too familiar with Slayer or Guilty Gear, but what i get from the lyrics is that bad things will happen, but good things will follow. Having easy happiness isn't worth it and the journey will make that happiness so much better. Life isn't a set path, it's the journey itself. If you cant find a motivation to move on in life, you need to surround yourself in precious things.

Slayer’s been alive for so long that at this point (and given how powerful and durable he is) it doesn’t seem likely that he’ll ever die. Instead of reflecting on how he’ll persist in the world after all that he cherishes disappears, he simply chooses to enjoy the present with good company and not fuss over the future.

The friend that's being referenced is Sol, " a platinum knife with a fire glow" and his eyes don't shine because at the time of meeting Slayer, did not intact have those "precious things"
I believe it's Slayer that gave him the name "Sol", since Frederick's passion was like the sun to him.

I love that while most of Strive's themes are about describing a character's motivations, growth or backstory, Slayer's is comparatively more simple, because he doesn't need any more depth, he already completed his growth and hit his level cap centuries ago

I hear "Essential design" instead of "sad, short, detour." It makes sense, considering the previous lyric. "A happy ending is just essential design." In addition, I hear "Hardly the stuff of bedtime stories" and not "Heartbeat stopper."

I think it might be "hardly the stuff for a bedtime story", as it sounds like he's not using plural" stories" from what I can hear. Just speculation on my part how it would fit in English. I like to view the first verse as Zato (who literally can’t appreciate the sunrise and we know from his song feels like everything in monotonous) and the second as Nagoriyuki (who is trying to find his purpose and fights for his meals)

My controversial opinion: I actually think, that this song is a little less complex, less complicated then some of the last GGS songs (The Circle, The Gravity and Symphony was phenomenal, very complex progrock with extremely unusual harmony, instruments and lyrics).
But I do not think that Ups and Downs a less interesting or smith, I really love this song too from the very first moment, from trailer. It's just doesn't have any specific bridges, strange and cool instruments (organ, sitar, shamisen e.t.c), chanting, screaming, different songs in one or something more unusual, No, it's just a very dandy, rock, classic/jazzy and actually happy song. I guess there is no need for overcomplicated theme for Slayer and Sharon, because they are based dandy Vampire-Husband and a Universal-error Wife. There is no problems, difficult plans or dilemmas in Slayer's mind (I guess), he is just chilingl with his "lovely wife", and so is he's song - chill, lovely, rock, jazzy and . . . 𝓭𝓪𝓷𝓭𝔂.....
The message is clear, Slayer has lived many, many years to come to the conclusion about not complicating his life, a direct message to enjoy the things that surround us and offers life, whether good or bad.

i heard it as "happy ending in just a sad shot in time" meaning that while we crave a happy "ending" its only happy and an ending when viewed within a sad section of someones life, and given an end to that section. Since life is a journey (not a destination) we should enjoy the ride instead of imagining a happy ending is going to come and then last forever.

I like how slayer's moveset is upsetting thoughts and fears of life, "IT'S TOO LATE!" is something alot of people say in their heads and think
"Bump ahead" is the stress of having to deal with a difficult situation that will come in the future (having to get over a family member's death)
Pilebunker is destructive feelings piling up and making your mind a sorta bunker for those feelings and master's hammer is the hopelessness of working without rest for someone else so you can survive, ironically, slayer is an immortal upper class vampire with an immortal wife, so none of those apply to him.

After listening closer "a sad short detour" sounds more like "a sad short tea time"

Compared to other GGST songs, it's pretty short. Which is the only negative I can give it. Otherwise, it's great.

It is actually the shortest song in Strive so far.
Before, it was May's theme. Now she has a solid 20 seconds or more compared to Slayer's.

I hear "Hardly someone's" followed by "bed time story", which seems to fit a bit better with the lyrics of "happy ending is just a sad short detour" and "life is a journey not a destination" since bed time stories usually denote the end of the day or something less exciting aka the exact opposite of what Slayer is preaching in his song making his song/srory "hardly someone's bed time story".
