Top tips for raspberry pi users: The kali image is 6gb so can't be stored on a fat32 flash drive- you'll have to flash it through a PC, which will require admin. There is NO way around this. Trust me, I had a week to try this with my phone, laptop and a few adapters and had no results. It's worth getting an NFTS driver for your raspberry pi and strapping an old SSD (Not a HDD, they take too much power) to it for wordlist storage- I now have a 200gb wordlist for bruteforce You NEED a case with heat sinks and fans. I personally run my setup with two wifi adapters - one with monitor / injection mode and another normal one- the normal one broadcasts a hidden WiFi hotspot, which linux broadcasts a VNC (Remote desktop) on. And voila, you have a hacking box that you can use on any device, your phone, laptop etc. The pi doesn't even have to be in the same room. Also, I would strongly recommend getting a small USB adapter such as the TP-Link T2UH AC600, as they are smaller and more inconspicuous.
Uummm may I know how to set up 2 adapter? . So basically i have tried just like you said in your comment. When i put my network adapter into monitor mode, suddenly I disconnect from my VNC. I was using fluxion tools when that happened. Glad if you help
@@Kiki_A37 Hi - looks like your VNC server is trying to use the wifi adapter in monitor mode. This would cause errors as when in monitor mode, a wifi adapter cannot actually use the chosen wifi access point for standard internet access, stopping VNC. Check the configurations for your VNC server and see if you can specify which adapter to use for the VNC broadcast. If you still can't get it to work then you can host a mobile hotspot on your phone and have the pi auto connect to it, broadcasting a VNC server.
@@dndjxnskdbajd4561 thanks for the reply sir. Actually I'm still new in kali linux, raspberry pi, and the configuration. So, can you teach or give me a specified link that shows me how to specify my adapter just for VNC server, not for monitor mode? Thanks
@@Kiki_A37 I can't find any specific links but if you find an installation guide for 'tightvnc' then you should be able to get it working - tightvnc broadcasts its server on all available adapters, so even if your main adapter is unavailable and in monitor mode, it should still broadcast on your secondary adapter.

You don't have to download the re4son kernel anymore. It got so popular that as of Kali 2017.2, it's already added on the main ARM img. Also, sticky fingers, and re4son kernel aren't the same. The sticky fingers img is the re4son kernel, but has added features, like a non root user with group permissions to kismet and such, and also adds easy tft screen setup that boots with a custom 9 button menu for tools (editable), as well as a special pin code lock screen with multiple functions depending on the pin you enter. Still awesome, was just sharing info.
For those having issues with the /user/local for the re4on kernel, its no longer needed in current version You only have to type "kalipi-config", choose the option number 3, then "B1", then the option that you prefer such as B4 then user name or leave blank for root. then hit finish and let it reboot as a test. Hope this helps
As a stone ager I find this very useful, even though I saw sudo calls while the $user was already root. No prob. The "hacking a drone with a drone" approach was really interesting. Hope to see this in a real world example.

You are wrong about the RPI 3 internal wifi. There has been a custom firmware for the Broadcom chip for roughly a year now. This allows native monitor mode and packet injection all in the pi. No need for an alfa card anymore. This does not apply to the RPI 3+. There are caveats which include the inability to have a better gain/db (range) antenna. Let me know if you want me to point you in the direction. I found this out from the devs of Kali themselves during Blackhat 2017. Prior to BH2017, they were in Germany for Chaos Days, where the firmware was demoed, originally for the Nexus 5, but the RPI 3 has a very similar Broadcom chip, thus was compatible.
with this custom image "kali-0.1-rpi3-nexmon.img" just look for it on the forums, there might be a newer version , this is old news dont know why he said you cant , native monitor mode and packet injection all in the pi
Sorry I might have come off as rude. I shouldn't have said you were flat out wrong. I still use an Alfa myself for the range. Here is the source for the custom firmware. dev.seemoo.tu-darmstadt.de/bcm/bcm-rpi3
you can also raise the TX power of the on-board chip or the alpha to get extra range just dont do it for too long it could burn your chip out when you pass 35 TX power
There is an unofficial image from sticky fingers with the nexmon patch for pi 3 b+ that now enables monitor mode. I'll be honest i haven't tried it yet. No matter if you use a patch, you will want to still use an antenna because pi range sucks.
hi null byte i love your videos and they are super helpful so please keep it up. i have one small question. when using the dpkg-reconfigure openssh-server i get this message "rescue-ssh.target is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it." i have no clue what that means as i am a complete beginner trying to learn. if you could please elaborate on what it means and how it should be dealt with. thank you in advance and sorry for the silly question. also the /usr/local/src directory is empty
I posted on their forum: whitedome.com.au/re4son/topic/trying-to-get-auto-login-setup-no-file-or-directory/ maybe if we all start posting someone will fix it
This is how I fixed it. (re4son-kernel.com/re4son-pi-kernel/) run "sudo su" Then changed directory "cd /usr/local/src" Downloaded and extracted the package "wget -O re4son-kernel_current.tar.xz re4son-kernel.com/download/re4son-kernel-current/ tar -xJf re4son-kernel_current.tar.xz" After the tar file extracted change your dir again to "cd usr/local/src/re4son-kernel_4.14.93-20190126" then you can run your "sudo ./re4son-pi-tft-setup -a root" command I also ran echo "deb http.re4son-kernel.com/re4son/ kali-pi main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/re4son.list wget -O - re4son-kernel.com/keys/http/archive-key.asc | apt-key add - apt update apt install -y kalipi-kernel kalipi-bootloader kalipi-re4son-firmware kalipi-kernel-headers libraspberrypi0 libraspberrypi-dev libraspberrypi-doc libraspberrypi-bin
so a lot of stuff has been updated since this video now if people are struggling with Dpkg-reconfigure openssh-server and if it doesn't run the way how it is saying that the Openssh-server is not install run this sudo apt install openssh-server if it shows that the openssh-server is already installed you will need to reinstall it by running these commands sudo su sudo apt-get remove openssh-server (that will remove the package) sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove openssh-server (that will remove other dependant packages that are no longer needed) apt install openssh-server Y and that should fix the issue you are having also for bluetooth if the bluetoothctl doesn't work for you run this apt-update apt-upgrade (MAKE SURE YOU RUN THEM AS ROOT! IF NOT THE DO "sudo su" and run them again) this will take some time after that write reboot (and if the Bluetooth still is not showing restart it by running) service bluetooth restart (and that should fix the issue) (the other thing about the re4reason kernel is not saved in local but in /usr/src skip the local and type cd /usr/src/re4son-kernel_4* (thats where the re4son folders are stored now, I dunno why and don't ask me :P)
yah mine says rescue-ssh.target is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it. someone pls help. i even went into the files and deleted the ssh_host ones and it’s not working
If you're just learning/experimenting, I would recommend the edimax n150 usb wifi adapter. Plug and play with monitor mode and packet injection. Around $10 USD.
fyi to those getting errors running console cmds run ' kali-config ' and it will have some options he did in the console, just with a GUI. Worked better for me on 2 commands
Add an NRF24 module and you can use almost every radio protocol for drones as well. Though you would need a bit more intelligence to not crash the drone you want to hack.
Null Byte - Awesome, got it running on all my Raspberry Pi devices, but now for the full setup I guess we must download all the tools. It would have been awesome if Sticky Finger's would have already included every tool in his distro.
Can you do a video on the wi-fi antennes with the brands and versions??, cause there is so much of them out there and i dont want to waste my money and end up with a shitty one. Found this channel recently and learned a lot, you explain it in a normal way and examples :)
Maybe do a tutorial for simple programming of them too. I liked how you told us what to type in the cmd line but if you could explain what each command is/does/stands for that would be awesome to. Some people learn differently, being shown and told what does what helps me alot more than just reading it then trying to do it, or being shown then expected to do it,
when I run dpkg-reconfigure openssh-server I get an error saying resue-ssh.target is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it. How do I resolve this?
First of all, from many of the comments on this video, it is obvious you know what you are talking about and accomplishing in the IT world. And as a "newbie" to this area of IT, involving coding and ethical hacking, I am looking for people such as yourself to learn from. Second, my main reason for this comment / question, is that it is August of 2020 as I write this, and this video is from April of 2018. There have been several changes / updates in the Pi world. I have just received the Pi 4 Cana Kit with 4GB, Wi-Fi, USB-C connector that the Pi 4 can be powered through, dual HDMI monitor connectors and an SD card pre-loaded with NOOBS. The question is how much of this is applicable now to working with the latest Pi 4 variant that I am about to embark on my coding / ethical hacking journey? Thank you, looking forward to learning from your tutorials, Marc
Big questions. Is this OS still working and is the download link working, and is there as of 2019 any better and more complete os to install? Also does this raspberry pi Linux have any limitations which could are crucial for ethical hacking?
I remember when I got my rasberry pi. Got it set up with kali and was so pumped to use it. Didn't take long for the HDMI signal errors to start. After a month it became unusable. I think its still sitting in my closet collecting dust.
I believe that there is a driver available on GitHub that will allow you place the on-board WiFi card into monitor mode. I have added a link below I believe the 3B+ uses the same chipset github.com/seemoo-lab/nexmon
Null Byte I had it working on a pi 3 alright but not a B+(as I haven't hot one yet). My biggest gripe with it was the lack of range on the pi 3 but I also ran it on a zer0W and had a surprisingly better range.
John Wotton it's not a waste of time of all you have is a pi. Part of hacking is breathing new life into old hardware. It's always better to spend money on the perfect equipment, but that's not the solution for everyone.
I’m strongly considering getting a raspberry pi because of this video. Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful tutorial. If I run into trouble in the future when setting this up, could I contact you through email? Thanks again!
I fell in love with them, I'm glad they're interesting you too! I'm easier to contact through Twitter, but part of being a good hacker is learning to be a good researcher. This information is all out there, I just show the easiest projects for beginners to try
sudo su cd /usr/local/src wget -O re4son-kernel_current.tar.xz re4son-kernel.com/download/re4son-kernel-current/ tar -xJf re4son-kernel_current.tar.xz Then you will have the folder and will be able to enable autologin

Great video, have been playing around with the PI for a while. Im really intrested in the Trident wifi antenne thingy that you showed but it seems that that not all wifi adapters are easily supported by PI. Can you please share the brand and model type of the antennes used to create the trident, highly appreciated!!
True, although for me, I only run Kali etc. from an encrypted VM -- *any* information collected from a legit ethical job has to be heavily protected and easily destroyed -- a simple proposition in a VM.

hi bro, can you tell me at 20:40 what is this adaptor, I have a wifi adapter already but i want to connect multiple adaptors and antennas just like you did. Can't seem to find the splitter
My PI doesn’t have directory re4son (when you cd usr/Src/... doesn’t work) and also when I ran dpkg of ssh it isn’t found says (rescue.ssh.target is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it.) is this because I was using my laptop hotspot?

so a lot of stuff has been updated since this video now if people are struggling with
Dpkg-reconfigure openssh-server
and if it doesn't run the way how it is saying that the Openssh-server is not install run this
sudo apt install openssh-server
if it shows that the openssh-server is already installed you will need to reinstall it by running these commands
sudo su
sudo apt-get remove openssh-server
(that will remove the package)
sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove openssh-server
(that will remove other dependant packages that are no longer needed)
apt install openssh-server
Y
and that should fix the issue you are having
also for bluetooth if the bluetoothctl doesn't work for you
run this
apt-update
apt-upgrade
(MAKE SURE YOU RUN THEM AS ROOT! IF NOT THE DO "sudo su" and run them again)
this will take some time after that write
reboot
(and if the Bluetooth still is not showing
restart it by running)
service bluetooth restart
(and that should fix the issue)
(the other thing about the re4reason kernel is not saved in local but in /usr/src skip the local and type
cd /usr/src/re4son-kernel_4*
(thats where the re4son folders are stored now, I dunno why and don't ask me :P)
After uninstalling openssh and rerunning the "apt install openssh-server" command it says it has no installation candidates?? any tips
yah mine says rescue-ssh.target is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it. someone pls help. i even went into the files and deleted the ssh_host ones and it’s not working
What if you have the pi 4B? Would we still need to download those?
Very informative. That thing is a spaceship 20:41
If you're just learning/experimenting, I would recommend the edimax n150 usb wifi adapter. Plug and play with monitor mode and packet injection. Around $10 USD.
Would love to see a video with some ideas and setups to use with this :)
fyi to those getting errors running console cmds run ' kali-config ' and it will have some options he did in the console, just with a GUI. Worked better for me on 2 commands
Add an NRF24 module and you can use almost every radio protocol for drones as well. Though you would need a bit more intelligence to not crash the drone you want to hack.
That's a cool idea, do you have a link to anything on that?
any information yet. I seen 1 . then it said it was unavailable. I sent a email to the downloader. nothing yet. anyone else?.👍
Null Byte - Awesome, got it running on all my Raspberry Pi devices, but now for the full setup I guess we must download all the tools. It would have been awesome if Sticky Finger's would have already included every tool in his distro.
Null Byte - Nevermind. Now I understand why you didn't show the full setup, it would have taken forever. My bad.
Can you do a video on the wi-fi antennes with the brands and versions??, cause there is so much of them out there and i dont want to waste my money and end up with a shitty one.
Found this channel recently and learned a lot, you explain it in a normal way and examples :)
Nicely done, sir!
At 18:01 - "cd /usr/ local/src/re4son-kernel_4*" that command fails to find info ginghamsgiving me a bin or bash error...
Help?
Same thing, any response?
Justin Beard no response...
Justin Beard am thinking I’ve done something really stupid; perhaps I’ve installed to wrong directory?
Why aren't you downloading Kali directly from them?
I'd love to see a comprehensive video of SDR transmission using the raspberry pi 3b. For example recording a transmission and transmitting it.
Do you guys plan on continuing with this Raspberry Pi Hacking series?
Yes, we want to make stuff you can follow along with on the Pi
Maybe do a tutorial for simple programming of them too. I liked how you told us what to type in the cmd line but if you could explain what each command is/does/stands for that would be awesome to. Some people learn differently, being shown and told what does what helps me alot more than just reading it then trying to do it, or being shown then expected to do it,
Cam OdinsSon there's other really simple documentation on how to use the CLI, and the tools he uses.
Null Byte please do !
@@Synthetic-Chicken no need for that.

I’m curious, about how much would the equipment to make the “trident” cost? Not including the pi
when I run dpkg-reconfigure openssh-server I get an error saying resue-ssh.target is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it.

Thank you, looking forward to learning from your tutorials,
Marc
we need Respbarry pi 4 review
Well, I have Raspberry Pi 1 :|
sir huge fan of yours always ready to learn from you

Big questions. Is this OS still working and is the download link working, and is there as of 2019 any better and more complete os to install? Also does this raspberry pi Linux have any limitations which could are crucial for ethical hacking?

I remember when I got my rasberry pi. Got it set up with kali and was so pumped to use it. Didn't take long for the HDMI signal errors to start. After a month it became unusable. I think its still sitting in my closet collecting dust.

Can i do it on the Model b? Or do i need the b+?
I believe that there is a driver available on GitHub that will allow you place the on-board WiFi card into monitor mode. I have added a link below I believe the 3B+ uses the same chipset
github.com/seemoo-lab/nexmon
David Mulhall have you tested it? Very interested
Null Byte I had it working on a pi 3 alright but not a B+(as I haven't hot one yet). My biggest gripe with it was the lack of range on the pi 3 but I also ran it on a zer0W and had a surprisingly better range.
David Mulhall please keep in touch and let me know if you find more stuff like this! It's super helpful. Here or on Twitter
Null Byte will do buddy
John Wotton it's not a waste of time of all you have is a pi. Part of hacking is breathing new life into old hardware. It's always better to spend money on the perfect equipment, but that's not the solution for everyone.
How to protect yourself from hackers, watch this guy!
4:50 did you ever hear of P4wnP1? I think its a much better solution
21:04 ...what would you recommend using to power a PI4 outside the house?
I’m strongly considering getting a raspberry pi because of this video. Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful tutorial. If I run into trouble in the future when setting this up, could I contact you through email? Thanks again!
I fell in love with them, I'm glad they're interesting you too! I'm easier to contact through Twitter, but part of being a good hacker is learning to be a good researcher. This information is all out there, I just show the easiest projects for beginners to try
Great tutorial. Clearly defined examples. Subscribed.
Help re4son-kernel_4* isn't in the source file
to me neither....what should I do???
sudo su
cd /usr/local/src
wget -O re4son-kernel_current.tar.xz re4son-kernel.com/download/re4son-kernel-current/

Hi, great Video!
Can you also make a video where you explaine how to setup the kali pi as a wlan hotspot. So that you can connect via ssh from the smartphone without a router? :)
Matthias Weissteiner sounds like a good idea
I found my solution : esp_8266 wifi board. Creates a wifi hotspot and voila!
Edit : after a lot of effort I doesn't work. I don't know why. Maybe the chip isn't made for this.

Great video, have been playing around with the PI for a while. Im really intrested in the Trident wifi antenne thingy that you showed but it seems that that not all wifi adapters are easily supported by PI. Can you please share the brand and model type of the antennes used to create the trident, highly appreciated!!
There are a lot of tools not compiled for arm. A cheap second hand laptop is a better option
True, although for me, I only run Kali etc. from an encrypted VM -- *any* information collected from a legit ethical job has to be heavily protected and easily destroyed -- a simple proposition in a VM.
yeah that works ,but hes talking from a hackers perspective and needing a burner laptop
