Fantastic Pyongwon by Korea and that triple flash kick at the end..so damn cool. Both gentlemen performed Pyongwon amazingly but I could tell Korea deserved the win. I think China performed Keumgang a bit better.

I am a Fan of Taekwondo because of Kim Kaphwan from King of Fighters. Otherwise, Chinese athletes make me think of Chinese Female Xiaolon and Korean athletes make me think of Korean Female Chaelim.

why is the new trend for forms to shake your head really hard at each step? The Koreans love to cut their hair in these ways to wear their hair bounces at each step on purpose. It looks really silly and they're just shaking their head really hard and it's all natural. If you watch some of the Kukkiwon teaching videos none of the people are shaking their head like this. Does anyone else notice this?

A bit of head shake is OK, it shows that the athlete has power for each movement; if the head is completely still when punching or blocking or whatever, the athlete may not be punching/blocking hard enough. Frankly though, I feel like China's athletes make it a bit too pronounced

To me it looks like they are simply shaking their head and not actually striking hard.

MaharlikaAWA that just shows how much power they put into they forms. u tire out easily doing that, but its worth it.

ruri But they are simply shaking their heads regardless. It is not because of power their heads shake. It is because they purposefully shake their heads to pretend it is due to power, when it is not. They aso have those special asian bob haircuts that make their hair bounce even more. I find this superficial and annoying.
The training videos put out by the Kukkiwon performed by 9th dan masters does not show any head shaking. I am not a fan of the way WTF is weakening poomsae and taking out realism.

MaharlikaAWA okay. u have ur opinions and i have mine. For me, tkd Poomsae has evolved and this is one of those. How are u so sure when ur not the one performing? Truth be told, im not too fond of china's team because of their way of training, but as expected Korea performed best. Sometimes what u call 'head shaking' cant be avoided because they let it all out. If that is a problem for u, then there are other martial arts that don't involve this type of exertion illustration.

I don't know, I don't think a kata can exist as a tightly structured, scripted pattern without the organics of self expression ie: balance

The kicks are supposed to be aimed at the same height as your own head, what's the point of kicking that high? Man, tkd sure has changed a lot since I first started...

sorry that i am late, but I will say that this is a "poomsae" and is a an art, that is why they do certain moves different than how you would do them if you were using them in self defense, but the point is that high kicks look good and very impressive, since they take a lot of flexibility, and high kicks in Taekwondo in poomsae have been around for a long time i don't know where you're coming from
