  • What is the EV Coach in a Kuga Plug-in Hybrid?
This video is all about using the EV coach in Ford Kuga PHEV or Plug in Hybrid. This video and all the pop up shots are running the Kuga with zero charge in the Battery and this car hasn’t been plugged in for several weeks, if not months, due to high price of electricity and the cost of petrol getting lower all the time.
Sorry about the very annoying air freshener hanging from the mirror, but if you like it that much we bought it on Amazon and it smells great, here is a link amzn.to/3IInR2w

Very informative - however if your driving profile is similar to this i.e. ‘you haven’t charged up the battery for a couple of months’ surely you would be better off with the FHEV version of this car, you would probably get quite a bit better fuel economy.

My question is: Is this a good choice if I drive mostly highwai at around 100 km/h? My work is 45 km away and most of that is highway where speed limit is either 90 or 110 kmh.

L mode increases the amount of regeneration. The effect is like engine braking in a low gear (hence L). Welcome to "one pedal" driving, with practice you'll hardly ever need to press the brake pedal. Slight adjustments of the throttle pedal up or down is all you need. Repeat your test route and see your mpg improve.

But the manual says this decreases fuel economy. Highly confusing.

I take your point about the relative prices of electricity vs petrol, but if you compare the cost of a full recharge against covering the same (35 miles?) using fuel (at your average mpg) you'll probably find it's always cheaper to move the vehicle using just electricity.

That is a really good feature, I would use that

Great informative video!! I'm about to swap my lovely 1.0 Ecoboost, 125cv 2019 for a PHEV Kuga almost full equip. I'm very excited, but as i'm seeing a lot of vids, it really looks very heavy when it tries to accelerate... I am afraid that I am buying something that will have difficulty entering a roundabout quickly or things like that. It's that slow?

When you say 50mpg? Is that just the petrol element or combined?

In L mode, when you lift off, does the brake light come on to alert the driver behind that you’re slowing down?

Unfortunately not, the brake lights don't come on as you are not applying the brakes. It is simply engine braking.

That was a clever question that i was wondering too!

Great info on the video. I am currently looking for a SUV plugin hybrid. Why did Ford decide to use a 2.5 petrol engine instead of the 1.5 petrol. Surely the 1.5 with hybrid would have been more economical?

its not the size of the engine what is important. the 2.5 L is running on Atkinson cycle. This makes the engine very lazy thusfore needs a larger capacity but runs very economically

Thank you for the video.Have you tried at any time on long motorway travelling with the Kuga Phev, to use the ev charge mode (charge via the engine) and if so , what was the difference in consumption ?
