      It’s definitely been a huge commodity advantage for my independence. Did you relearn how to drive??? Looking at your name I’m assuming that you are in a chair as well? Please feel free to ask any questions you may have… I’m happy to help however I can. Hope you’re having a great day!♥️😁

    What is your level? I'm c6-7 incomplete. Since 1985. I used a manual chair for the first 25 years, arthritis was so bad I have use a power chair now. I also have a toyota sienna pretty much theater setup as yours. It isn't easy but we keep going. 💯

      I’m C5/6 incomplete, but present more like a C7 now. I have my triceps and wrist flexion that is weak but came back. Was injured in 2015 so 6 years in. Use a manual chair as well but I have some power assist wheels to help me with my push and save my shoulders. Great little car, ended up getting it a couple years after I got injured. But I think if I had to redo it I would probably take away the kneeling function of the car. I’m now strong enough with the help of my anti reverse wheel lock to make it up the ramp without the kneeling feature. It definitely would save a lot of money on the vehicle.

      @@QuadLife101 yeah I've turned the kneeling off on my van. Drains the battery to much.

    Hi… Thanks for your video… I’m actually in the process of looking at a new van, I’m quadriplegic. In a manual wheelchair. I was going to look at another full-size Ford van but have found out that I can’t do an easy lock system and drive it because they can’t drill into the floor. So I’m looking at a minivan now. I’m trying to figure out if I can manage the kneeling suspension and ramp combination push-up. I was wondering Xiao hi the floor of the van actually is once the vehicle has kneeled down. Because I’m trying to figure out the incline of the ramp if I can push up with my manual wheelchair or if it will be problematic for me. Do you know how high that is? Approximately? And how long is the ramp?

      Hi thank you for your comment. I don’t know exactly know those measurements, but I can check it for you.
      Before I had my power wheels (the Twion from Alber), I used what I have on my chair called anti-reverse wheel lock which prevents the chair from rolling backwards to facilitate going up the ramp. So even though I didn’t have enough strength to push myself up in one go, I would put those on and it would prevent the chair for rolling back so it was easier to get up into the van. That said I think if I was gonna get a new van, I wouldn’t get the kneeling mechanism. With my power wheels and this locking mechanism, it’s easier to get up the ramp and it would save a lot of money from having the hydraulics needed for the vent to have this kneeling feature.
      Next time I have my caretaker coming in, I’ll get her to measure the length of the ramp, as well as the van height when it’s kneeled down and also without the kneeling mechanism on. I thought I would also share this other girls, who’s a para adaptation which could also be an option dependent on your function and transfer abilities.

      Hope this helps us keep you posted on those measurements.

      Hi hope you’re having a good day so far. Apologies it’s taking me a little while to get those measurements but here are the measurements for the van that you were asking for. Hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else?
      - Bottom of ramp to top 52 inches
      - Height of floor to top of ramp with kneeling mechanism 7,5 inches
      - Height of floor to top of ramp without kneeling mechanism 9 inches

    hey where did you get the wheel locks?

    • @QuadLife101
      @QuadLife101  Год назад

      Through my wheelchair vendor. They’re called “anti-reverse wheel locks” and I think they only work with certain brakes. It comes together as a unit. Hope this makes sense.

      They can also be called “Anti-Rollback Wheel lock” looks like Newton makes a set of them. That wasn’t there when I got my chair. www.motioncomposites.com/en_ca/community/blog/tips-and-tricks/wheel-locks-unlocking-safety-and-function

    • @QuadLife101
      @QuadLife101  3 года назад

      @@nezaroobest7139 No unfortunately not! I know you can jump through loopholes and get it through work or school at times.
      In my case, I just had savings that logically made sense to contribute towards an accessible vehicle and also started a go fund me to help me afford it.
      If you do want to go in that direction, I would do a fundraiser through GoGetFunding, rather than GoFundMe. GoFundMe takes about 14% of the money fundraised, which is ridiculous in my opinion. Where GoGetFunding took about 7% of earnings. At least one I was doing my fundraiser, which was a few years back. So that may have changed, but I would check on different fundraising platforms to see which one gives you the better deal.
