Bought a Taylor 214 Deluxe, sounded fantastic and figured I'd learn to live with the IN YOUR FACE WHITE PLASTIC BINDING, and the pale rosewood laminate. Discovered I couldn't, but was always very impressed with the sound, so tried other Taylors right up to 914 and the sound was basically no better than the 214 but was getting on for $4,000. Was happy to let the 214 go after trying out the LL16 Deluxe. The sound was easily the equivalent of every Taylor I'd tried, but the Yammie had full solid rosewood, black Ebony fretboard, full abalone and maple binding, double abalone rosette, and a neck finish I much preferred to the legendary Taylor neck. $750.00 - new. Workmanship from the Yamaha owned factory is excellent too. ONLY downside was parting company with the Taylor Expression System 2, I found it to be an excellent and discreet system.
The ls16 has a certain kind of jovial, twangy zing in the treble which I like. Lj6 is softer, wholesome and alluring. LL16 is like a dashing steed, strong and steady.
This is an excellent demo to hear the difference between all solid guitars and laminated sides and back. The LJ6 is laminated. I heard a very noticeable difference. The LJ is bigger than the LS. But, smaller than LL.
Hey Jose 👋 do you you have an Ll? I have the Ll16 Dare and I love it. I love the sound of the mohogany in this clip. Need to find a clip of it being strummed. Peace ✌ out
The LS 16M and LL16D are amazing. Very Taylor-esque, which to me is the standard. The LJ6 has a boxy sound. I was hoping the laminated body would make no difference, but I could hear it in this case. I dislike painted guitars, but the LL16D's sound was great. I've never understood the charm of a black or sunburst guitar. I want to see the wood it's made of.
Sweet! I finally got my new LL16-12 ARE S Series... Looks at the big names but nothing sounded as good or played as easy as this does. Can't put it down, I'm in heaven!!! I love playing this guitar! I've played Fenders, Martins and Taylors and this new ARE with passive pickup through a decent acoustic amp is breathtaking... The action right out of the box was perfect, not high as usual. Everything was spot on... It's effortless to play and tonal resonance is phenomenal... I can't praise this LL16-12 S Series enough. I have a vintage mint FG-375S that has just grown to be astounding and this new guitar has the same great resonance that my 30+ year old 375s has. Yamaha nailed this one dead on all the way around IMHO...
+quigley4440 I thought the same thing, but then I will reserve my verdict on the brightness on the high end until I put strings of my choice when the 1st string change out comes around. To my ear the bright highs are coming from cascading harmonics. The body is so solid and tight that everything comes through with the factory strings on it. I find too that I'm am toning it down on the high end a little bit when amped though and it sounds great, very complex, like a great Cab or Merlot... ;)
+quigley4440 LOL, Sanding holes & pins!!!!! Get a rope! :) I have been pondering going with the trifecta appointments myself on the new girl. I agree that the softer pins, nut and bridge would probably compliment the excellent mids and low end that are just as pronounced as it's siblings. The entire spectrum is pristine and I think with time, just like my 74' GF375S, will mellow into a fine wine... I wouldn't part with my 74' for $2500 especially now that I have a zero LL16 pickup installed in it... ;) I'm the only person alive that has this! :) Shhhhhhweeeeet! But I digress... You can always bring it down, that's easy.... It's attaining those highs "again" which is difficult...
Got one of these, the LL16D in black. Cracking sound, fab build quality and a fantastic action out of the box. The Yamaha simply destroys everything anywhere near the same price point and Martins etc at twice the price aren't as nice. Probably my best value for money guitar purchase. I bought a Mercedes for Ford money.
I have a Yamaha LL16 A.R.E. and I tried Martin`s, Taylors, Avalon/Lowden, Tanglewood Masterclass. Whatever anyone may think/say, the Yamaha blows them all out of the water in every way. They should have sold it for three times the price!
My main guitar is a Martin gcpa 35 and dc35, I also have an ls16 ARE. completely different sound and I don't know where people get off trying to say they're better then the Martin. But with that said they do sound amazing but nothing like the Martin. This is just my opinion and since I own both and use both regularly at shows I can vouch for both guitars. The Martin is very much for giving if you brush past a note it still sounds like you hit it whereas if you brush past note on the ls-16 you may not hear the note. With the Martin you are not just paying for the name that's total bologna and once you own a higher-end one and compare it to these lower-end models you will see what I'm talking about and please don't respond with crap of stuff you think you remember most people's memories are flawed with what they remember watch Adam ruins it all and you'll see. Mine's not a memory I still use these guitars currently to play out when I played inside LS 16 are nailed it when I play outside with no bounce off the walls the Martin does the trick.
I play my 40 yr old Yamaha FG - 430 almost every day and it plays and sounds much better than the cheap Martin and Taylor's. If I were to buy another it would likely be another Yamaha.
Seems like some of these arent available anymore in 2021, in what country is the L Series manufactured? wish you could have shown the necks and headstocks etc. .....Going for the groovy camera angle shot... half out of focus was artistic, yet annoying .Very nice playing for sure, enjoyed it.. Is the A Series above these models?
I have an LL16 which I initially liked enough to buy, but lately I find myself returning time after time to my old TraditionTG95-1TRS for which I paid around 350 Canadian. It lacks the upper register chime and complexity of the Yamaha but has a stronger voice overall. It's a better guitar for flat picking whereas the LL16 sounds lovely being finger picked.
I have to ask, what acoustic amplifier do you use! Cause on the many other sound test that i've listen on youtube of all the LL, or LS ARE YAMAHA models, they all sounded weird when pluged with that passive system, but the one you are using sounds fantastic! I gotta know, so please tell me wich one it is!!!! Thank's
All your getting is some Abalone bling and fancy inlays that's the difference. The sound is exactly the same, all the "D" stands for is Deluxe. So if you want the eye candy you pay extra. This is basically a solid Folk/Country Strumming guitar which was built to cater to the mid range sound. Want more bass this guitar is not for you. The LL16D goes for $1,000 + tax Canadian (Adjust accordingly)
Rebel Recluse I'm also deciding between the ll16, ll16d and the ls16 haha. But you would say that the main difference between the ll16 and ll16d is jus aesthetics? For the record, I play most americana/folk punk/folk style and play standing up alot while strumming hard with the occasional fingerstyle song for softer things. Which would you recommend getting?
krnhitokori personally I wouldn't get to attached to Yamaha, they're okay but I'd try a Takamine pro series 4 $1,500, or a Martin D-18 $2,200. If your a hard strummer, great all around solidly built guitars for the money as people like to say.
I appreciate the concern but I've decided on these guitars because they're the best sounding for their price range. I simply can't really afford much higher than 1k.
The value that a Yamaha brings is something more than an overrated Martin or Taylor. This makes me question the money that thousands of people are spending everyday for an expensive Martin, while you can purchase a 5 times cheaper Yamaha with the same (even better) sound.
+Sean Duggan Hi Sean, this demo accompanied a full review in the magazine - often we'll cover the main points again in the free video we make available on the RUclips channel but in some cases what you see here is designed to go with the text in the paid-for issue of the mag not be a full stand-alone review. If you fancy subscribing, then head on over to: www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk
Please stay away from these guitars. I inspected a ll 16d recently that had a tool mark on the back of the neck, string spacing off at plastic nut, and the truss rod was off on an angle from its adjustment key access hole of the guitar's bracing of the soundboard. If you're planning on purchasing one of these guitars, then I highly suggest taking an inspection mirror and a light.
Not a fan of ARE....I'd rather have the guitar age naturally. I have a Yamaha L series that I have had for 21 years & it sounds great. Can't stand the gold tuning pegs & string post'(s). The rest of the guitar looks & sounds great.

I had an LL16D and loved it
Can I buy it?
I like the LS16M best. I have the LS16 Rosewood and I love it!

Both the LL’ers er Stunners, sound wise :-) and hey the single L do good for the money..
They all sound quite close when finger picked.
Where to find the music of the First minute? Very nice

LL series is top of the line for Yamaha.
just tried this at a guitar, absolutely great, much better sounding and plays much better than the taylor 11x
I am surprised about the low end and clarity of the LS 16. But, also the well balanced sound of the LL 16.
I have an LL16 which I initially liked enough to buy, but lately I find myself returning time after time to my old TraditionTG95-1TRS for which I paid around 350 Canadian. Fingerstyle choose which one? LL16 or LS 16? I am 178cm tall
LS16
Is the LL16 a standard dreadnaught, or a jumbo?
We’re these set up special with such low action or do they come that way?
They come that way. Both of my LL16Ds have incredibly low action.

Ok, no problem with the guitars, but come on at least some commentary on models, variations, features and construction
