Hi Fern, botanist here 🥰I am not sure about the Begonia 'Linda Dawn' specifically, but the reflective spots on most begonias (such as Begonia maculata) is an adaptive trait and develops because it is maintaining high photosynthetic rates, so additional light energy could be damaging. This makes it want to reflect the light away instead of absorb it. I know you have tried many growing circumstances, but sometimes adaptive development such as this need a decent amount of time for acclimation (the plant is working on constructing the new leaf long before it fully forms and sprouts). You may see a several month delay even. I would try keeping it in a lower light setting and possibly a very slightly lower temperature, though cooler air temps hold less water so be careful to maintain humidity, as well. I am not sure if this actually helps, but I am excited for you to experiment with the unique characteristic more!!

I’m a beginner plant parent. I live with my parents so I can only have plants in my own room, but I managed to squeeze in over 20 plants lol! Mostly beginner plants but I loooove them!! I have also gotten some really beautiful plants and cacti from growing seeds from just regular fruits I buy at the supermarket (for example avocado and dragon fruit!). None of my friends want to talk to me about plants so you’re my only plant friend. Appreciate it!

Definitely cut the infloresence on your forgettii, that way they plant can put its energy into that new leaf instead of on making a flower!
Regarding your Begonia, for some reason I *think* I remember reading on Steve's Leaves website that some Begonias change their leaf appearance depending on the temperature of their environment. So I would venture to say that as the weather warms up, your Linda Dawn may start having less spots on its leaves. I had some silvery Begonias in the past and this was the case for them, if I remember correctly!

  • @ninabeena83

Not a Raven, but I had really good luck rooting my regular green ZZ stem cuttings (leaf cuttings too) in just water.
Shady ish spot on the east facing windowsill (there’s a shrub in front of that corner), probably got a little of the humidity from nearby action, but it took foreverrrrrr - like 4-5? Months maybe before I potted them all up. Note I never changed the water either, just topped it off. Rooting hormones in there I didn’t want to disturb
Since then I’ve gotten exactly one new stalk from one of the stem cuttings lol
I have a rhipsalis too that I was able to get some of my broken off/smaller pieces to root. Or at least I think they’re rooted cuz they have little baby new growths coming from them 🥰
My Linda Dawn went back outside last week, hello warm TX temps 🙌🏾. She’s lookin a bit scraggly from the winter too though and needs a chop this weekend, but hoping mine rebounds back to her usual fabulosity.
Not that I need any more cuttings, they’re literally everywhere in my house now
    Edits to add info ❤️

I think that since your anthurium flower has already gotten that far, cutting it won't save any energy that hasn't already been expended. I am not 100% certain, but it is what I have heard from some of my local anthurium experts.

In regards to the Warscewiczii, (my fave Calathea too ☺️) I'm glad you put it in lower light! I find these like even less light than some of the darkest leaf Calatheas out there. They are also some vengeful B's if you miss their regular watering by even a few hours, I swear. It's the only plant of mine that I have an exact day and time to be watered. 😂 I have mine in a potting mix with a little extra water retention amendments and I don't let it dry out fully, ever.

mentioned a support for the one plant in the collection, was thinking maybe pot makers could make some kind of new pot where they attach/incorporate some kind of attachment point to the exterior of the pot to allow for a moss pole, stake, or vertical vine training product that could be like a strap that wraps around the pot and has a holster to secure the pole to the outside of the pot so the plants have more room in the pot to keep from soil loss ie root space reduction from the current problem of being forced to place the poles inside the pot taking up space that keeps the plants from reaching their potential maximum size since the roots are being limited from the amount of space that they could grow into, so this product would be a benefit to save money from reduced transplants where ya save on soil/pots that add up over time when horticulturalists are forced to plant in either a. bigger pots because the pole hinders the plant from becoming the peak size, b. choosing pots that aren’t the ones that are actually desired because the poles require a certain size to allow the soil to hold the pole into place ya know, there can’t be a small pot with a moss pole cause there wouldnt be enough soil to stabilize the pole… so seems like a good invention, i’ll work with ya to design and develop if ya’d like to start a business and make some extra cash ?!?!?!

I have a begonia black magic and it threw some spotted leaves for a while before it went back to normal. Nothing changed during that time, so I think it’s a sport thing that just happens sometimes ☺️

Usually the first flower that comes out doesn't pollinate well anyways. I'd cut it off. I recommend watching adansonii's videos.

i would sacrifice the inflorescence on the anthurium, when the plant is healthier and bushier it will definitely bloom again
