It seems like you're referring to "Mephistopheles," a fictional character with various cultural and literary origins. Mephistopheles is often associated with devilish or demonic figures and is most famously known for his role in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's tragic play "Faust."
In "Faust," Mephistopheles is a demon who makes a pact with the scholar Faust, offering him knowledge, power, and pleasure in exchange for his soul. This character embodies the archetype of the cunning, seductive devil who tempts individuals into making morally questionable or destructive choices.
Mephistopheles has appeared in various adaptations, retellings, and works of art over the years, both within the context of "Faust" and in other stories that draw on similar themes of temptation and damnation. The character has become a symbol of the struggle between good and evil, and his portrayal can vary widely depending on the specific interpretation and cultural context.

Wonderful! Try Jaga! This is the one of the best clips they have made so far! Not many people know but Twardowsky was actually a historical person, a mage of the king Zygmunt August II. Depressed king after the death of his beloved wife commanded Jan to find a way to see once again a soul of his dead wife. He made a magical mirror and king was able to see Barbara again, however he did not proceed with the instructions given by Twardowsky and queen dissapeared to the despair of the king . The mirror of Twadowsky got properties to see the future. And it was shattered by Napoleon - it was told he has seen his failure in raiding Russia.

Mefisto is short for Mefistofeles, one of the devils of Polish legends. And the "music" is called Disco Polo and no - I don't secretly like it :D More details below:
The legend of Jan Twardowski is a piece of Polish folklore that tells the story of a man who made a pact with the devil. According to the legend, Jan Twardowski was a nobleman and a sorcerer who desired to gain knowledge and power through magic. To achieve this, he made a deal with the devil (often depicted as Rokita). In exchange for his abilities, he would give his soul to the devil after a certain period.
However, Twardowski decided to trick the devil by adding a clause to the agreement that his soul would only be taken if they met in Rome - assuming he would never go there. After many years, having gained vast knowledge and power, the devil tried to cunningly catch Twardowski. In a tavern that Twardowski entered, the devil placed a sign reading "Rome" and attempted to claim the sorcerer's soul.
In desperation, Twardowski used a mirror (which granted him certain powers) to summon the Virgin Mary, who saved him from the devil. But in return, he had to leave Earth. As a result, he was sent to the Moon, where, according to legend, he remains trapped forever.
The tale of Twardowski is often likened to the German story of Faust, who also made a pact with the devil. In both tales, the protagonist tries to deceive the devil but ultimately pays a price for his actions.
Mephistopheles, as a distinct character, is most famously known from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's drama "Faust," but his origins trace back to earlier literary works and legends.
Literary Works: Before Goethe's "Faust," the character of Mephistopheles appears in various versions of the Faust story that circulated in Europe from the 16th century. One of the earliest recorded sources is a German book from 1587 titled "Historia von D. Johann Fausten," which tells of the legendary magician and his dealings with the devil.
Etymology: The name "Mephistopheles" itself is shrouded in mystery, and its exact origin is uncertain. One theory suggests it derives from the Greek word "Mephistopheles," meaning "not a lover of light," referring to his devilish nature.
Theology: While Mephistopheles per se doesn't appear in the Bible, some suggest that the character might have been inspired by traditional Christian depictions of Satan or other demons.
Disco Polo is a music genre originating from Poland. Its roots date back to the 1980s and 1990s. Here are some key points about the origins of Disco Polo:
Inspirations: Disco Polo drew inspirations from Western disco music and traditional Polish folk tunes. It is characterized by simple, catchy melodies and lyrics, often revolving around love, fun, and everyday life.
Evolution: In the 1990s, the genre became incredibly popular in Poland, especially among the youth and in rural areas. Many Disco Polo bands began to appear on television and radio, and their songs became staples at weddings, fairs, and other events.
Television: TV shows like "Disco Relax" and "Galaktyka" played a significant role in popularizing the genre nationwide.
Criticism: Despite its popularity, Disco Polo was often criticized by mainstream media and the musical elite for its simplicity and lack of "artistic depth." However, its authenticity and straightforwardness attracted a vast fanbase.

according to legend, he was given knowledge, wisdom and immortality by the devil. Bizarrely, this made him understand that he needed to get his soul back.
ps.the songs you hear in the productions of alegro are Polish hits from years ago, I'm not sure but I think the authors have given up their copyright and it's like open source now?

In all the series "Legendy polskie" the music plays a key role. Many of the songs are covers of classics very famous and every song is part of tne narration on screen. That's an added value to these short films.

Bravo Rob! Your Polish is getting better all the time. It’s so nice of you to popularize Poland and it’s culture. I used to live in London and I must say that the perception of Poland and Poles in the UK was rather stereotypical and negative. Your Chanel might be contributing to a positive change in that respect.
The series about Polish Legends is great, especially because it has a more contemporary take on them. I’ve watched 6 episodes so far. They are all very well done. Obviously, someone familiar with the legends and with the Polish music used in those movies will likely appreciate these series more. The subtitles aren’t the best, but they’re acceptable.
Here is my translation of the final song by Marek Grechuta:
Crucial are only the days that are for us in store...
Crucial are only the moments we are still waiting for...
Crucial are only the days that are for us in store...
Crucial are only the moments we are still waiting for..
There's been many days, when we couldn't go on.
But then splendid ones, splendid days came on...
When you have regrets about pointless ones,
The only thing worth knowing then is this, and merely this:
Crucial are only the days that are for us in store...
Crucial are only the moments we are still waiting for...
Crucial are only the days that are for us in store...
Crucial are only the moments we are still waiting for...
    All the best to you!

The classic version of this legend says that Twardowski, in the pact he's made, wrote an addendum, saying that after a set period of time, he will go to Rome to fulfil his end of the bargain.
Of course, he never intended to go Italy - thus, he planned to outsmart the devil by never showing up at the designated place. When the devil finds him, he tells him exactly that - the deal said, his end of the bargain, his soul, will be given to the devil in Rome, and since Twardowski is still in Poland, the devil has absolutely nothing to do there.
What he didn't notice, however, was that the tavern the devil found him in, had a charming name... _ROMA._
Realizing his blunder, Twardowski magically summons a giant cock (the bird :P) and hopping onto it, he flies away to the moon, where he's said to still reside, hiding from his contractor.
Also, others mentioned this, but yes - in Polish folklore there are many devils. From what I've read, this is a leftover Slavic lore from the time prior to Christianity. Mephisto (Mephistopheles), Rokita, Boruta and Lucifer are names of just a few best known ones - though I am pretty sure Lucifer isn't just our lore.

9:32 yes, that's a glagolitic letter dobro lol
Few explanations: Mephisto comes from Mephistopheles which is a name of the devil in Mickiewicz's version of this tale (in that version Twardowski 'outsmarts' the devil by adding a clause that states his soul is only taken when they meet in Rome, a place that Twardowski has no intention to go to, but one day he visits a Tavern called Rome, allowing Mephisto to act)
Also in most versions of the legend, Twardowski escapes to the moon on a giant rooster to avoid honoring the deal
Also also, the story in The Witcher 3 Hearts of Stone is based on that legend - Olgierd is a stand-In for Twardowski and Gaunter ODimm is a stand-In for Mephisto.
Also also also, the actor who plays Twardowski here, Robert Więckiewicz is one of the top actors in Poland actually, he's in a lot of good movies like In Darkness, The Dark House or Clergy

Actually, it _was_ one of the devils. In "Legendy Polskie," Hell is a corporation, and they sent a junior officer. Twardowski inquired about one of the senior management (Mephisto). The answer was: He's in Sochi (the location of Putin's famous summer palace).

1:27 Devil finaly caught Twardowski and tried to took him directly to hell. Once in that situation, Twardowski started his prayers to the God and his prayers were so pure and clean, that it made devil uncomfortable so he dropped Twardowsky, who safely landed on the moon.. and that's were legends end, if i'm not mistaken - he never returned from there ;)

9:41 What is that I think of now: two balls and a cannon? It's scissors .
    Also:
    - Popular in Poland version of legend ens up in Twardowsky escaping from the devil to the moon.
    - Mefisto- Mephistopheles- devil in Faust (Goethe) and Master and Margot (Bułhakow), in some minor books, also popular in Poland lately. I think he was introduced to the legend by Mickiewicz "Pani Twardowska" The thing is he was German. In previous versions it was Boruta or Rokita (polish devils form XVIII century literature I think).
    - Disco polo music was the word. Yeah... yeah, that is it. "Ona tańczy dla mnie" is dico polo.
    - The woman is Lucyna- Lucypher - morning star fallen angel. The one from Dante Alighieri, Divine Comedy.

4:16: We have a saying, where the Devil can't he'll send a woman.
4:29: Mephisto is short for Mephistopheles, a demon from Faust
6:50: The idea is that he made the tea with holy water. Tricking a demon into drinking holy water is a recurring trope that they're playing with here.
    8:15: Disco Polo.

I believe you should also rewatch Smok/The Dragon. Look carefully throughout the scenes, you will find the references here and there, but I won't tell you much more.
Some comments already said a lot about Twardowsky, you also did some research on the topic. Here's one more to it. Twardowski (the nobleman/wiseman) in some of the versions of the tale finally went to the moon. That's why sometimes Poles say that Twardowski/the Pole was the very first man on the moon.
Also, besides five main shorts (Smok, Twardowsky, Twardowsky 2.0, Bazyliszek, Jaga) there are music videos, which also add some details to the story/stories being told in those shorts. Enjoy!

CD projekt Red placed the character of Twardowski in the add-on to the game The Witcher 3. There as the character of Olgierd von Everec, who sold his soul to the devil. In one of the missions that starts the add-on, Geralt of Rivia fights Olgierd, the scene is from Sienkieiwcz Trilogy (Polish writer, Nobel Prize winner) The Deluge.
