Feeding Bees and Adding a Box to a Warre' Hive

    Why were you adding another box before they built out the one above?? Normally you'd wait a bit would you not....or was this just a time saving step you took so as to not have to monitor too closely / too often?

      So the feeders are in the top box, the bees have the boxes below the top box. Yes, I don't wait until they have completely filled out the box above, more in an attempt to avoid swarming than to save time. I'm still somewhere low on the learning curve when it comes to bees.

      @@PrimalWoods Also because the Warre is a smaller hive if a new box is below their current living space they can winter like that, if you think about them they would have larger space if they moved into a tree space. There has been the suggestion that the Warre is more thermally efficient due to its dimensions.

      @@fishmanfairclough7530…yes you post is old now but responding for readers , when bees move into a tree trunk the wall thickness in a tree trunk is way way thicker insulating them than a wood mad box , that’s a fact , so wintering in a tree is much different to a box we consider efficient which just isn’t the same .
