  • I’ve recently been seeing lots of people hailing Moderna’s development of an mRNA vaccine for SARS-CoV-2 as an incredibly fast accomplishment. Patrick Collison (Founder & CEO of Stripe) even added it to his amazing list of people quickly accomplishing ambitious things: patrickcolliso...
    But the company has been around for 10 years and this will be their first commercial product. So I decided to dig into the history of the company to try and understand what allowed them to break the record for the fastest vaccine ever developed.

      ever heard about theranos? I suggest you look into it! This is theranos on steroids and where theranos was STOPPED before much damage to the population, moderna isn't!!!

    9:39 So far, their experience doesn't carry much weight. The vaccine was developed at record speed due to the urgent pressure of people dying daily and the desire to quickly end the pandemic. In contrast, other issues like cancer and regenerative medicine don't receive the same accelerated development.

      Thanks a ton Garry! You have been a huge inspiration (obviously). Committing to 1 video per week has been a miracle. Every video gets a bit better after a few months I can actually stomach editing my footage without cringing the entire time lol. Thanks for laying some awesome groundwork for the format!

    I started my career in manufacturing biosynthetic human insulin. Really neat to see what could happen with mRNA in the future.

      Yeah, I think we're going to see some amazing things in the next decade. At the very least, Moderna is going to be a great tool in the fight against future outbreaks like Covid.

    The whole synthetic biology space seems highly interesting now too. I wonder what alphafold will do now that it appears they can model proteins accurately.

    • @JohnCooganPlus
      @JohnCooganPlus  3 года назад +4

      Yeah! I’m definitely not an expert, but AlphaFold feels like a really important milestone. As I understand it, AlphaFold will be really important for grad students in labs who have had to grind for months to produce similar results. The faster iteration time should hopefully unlock a lot of new opportunities.

    Very interesting, NIH, Moderna, media, FDA, CDC, WHO, WEF, Governments, Black rock, Vanguard, State Street and all that entails… what if the adverse reactions short term and long term create more need for future pharmaceutical treatments/medicines/injections? $$$

    mRNA is a major leap in technology however adverse reactions are going to be a long term challenge. The issue of a protein manufacturing is a major challenge due to the immune response
