Had the same problem with my 2000 XJ. Fixed it with solder and heat shrink. Still holding up fine years later.

I have an 88 with some broken wires, this was incredibly helpful, thanks so much for sharing!

A good fix! Chrysler's accordion grommet's don't age well - you might try: clean the torn surface with alcohol, apply mixed quick-set epoxy, hold together while you tape it together or hold it till it sets up to solve the leak without replacing the grommets

2 cents worth: replace ALL the wires with ~16” of new wire, so you can stagger the splices to avoid a big gob, and have all new wire through the grommet area. Unless of course this is so much fun you want to do it all again down the road....

Great video. I’ll be tackling this this weekend.

Strange, I have a 2000 and the wiring appears to come from the other side of the vehicle. I’m not referring to tow wiring. Will have to double check. Good news is my interior is already out so I’ve got decent access. Thx Good video 👍

it's common, i have a 94 previa and the rear lock wasnt working and the lights were intermittent, i pulled the loom and sure enough theres like 6 broken wires, on 2 the sheathing is cracked open

My brake lights keep going out on my 2000 xj. My wires are totally exposed from the previous owner.

I'm having the same issue with my 96 including the lock not locking even with the key... Did you just connect the wires that all match

Did you find out why your read defrost light is not working?

Not yet but I haven't had the time to hunt the problem down. My guess is that I should have checked the other wires that weren't broken in that bad spot. They're probably broken on the inside.
