    Six month ago I extended my permaculture garden and planted about 30 fruit trees. It was always my dream to have some more space to grow more fruits.
    The new gained land went through a huge transformation and I show some of it in this video. Enjoy !

    This is actually what I'm going to do in the coming days. I'm having my land cleared and I can't wait to see the land when it's all cleaned out. I can't wait to plant fruit bearing trees and it worries me on how I will arrange them. I have like 1000 sqm of land and most of the trees are mahogany that my father planted over 20 some years. I'm worried that the soil will not be good since there are alot of mahogany trees. It's s summer now in the Philippines, and people told me I should wait for the month of May when rainy season starts. I want to start this project in preparation for our retirement, as a hobby/backyard farm but I just feel lost if I can manage this and have the land the way I imagined it to be. New subscriber here. Love your content. Thank you.

      @MyFoodForest  2 года назад +2

      Thank you ! Wow your project sounds really fascinating and I am wishing you the best luck with the work. It is for sure the best to plant just after the rain, as the roots will have an easier start - I also wait for the summer to pass for doing additional planting. I also would plant enough trees and some probably will not make it...My place here had many tall tamarind trees and after I started my garden I decided to cut them, becouse there was not enough light. It is always sad to cut down some trees, but sometimes its needed and they will provide the energy for the soil.
      All the best to you!

    Awesome garden but there's no uniformity, just a big jungle.
    I would have created a vertical trellis for the creeping plants like the squash so that it doesn't touch the ground and starts to rot. Would have put a stiff net like table for the pumpkins etc to sit on as they tend to get heavy as they grow. The same vertical trellis for the tomatoes as well. That way it also makes space in the garden to plant other veg or fruit trees. Either than that, so glad that you believe in sustainable living and have your own organic paradise 😃👌

    Thank you, Sarah for sharing! Your food forest is so lively, so beautiful. Love this video and your effort putting in it. Could you please share how you started the seeds/plants in this area. As i see they are all different and close to each other, (for example the m2 where you sit) did you just put the seeds (or young plants) in the soil randomly or selected? I saw you made the trenches and filled them with organic mass, then did you just start the seeds/young plants in between the trenches or did you wait for the organic mass get composted and then grow on top of them? And finally, did you have to add special growing soil/compost or just use the native soil there? Thank you so much Sarah!!!

    • @MyFoodForest
      @MyFoodForest  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Nguyen! I planted the seeds in between the trenches and continue to fill the trenches whenever I got some organic matter available. They will de compost slowly but then next year I will make new trenches and start to grow inside the old trenches where there is compost by then.Like this the soil in the garden is transformed into more nutritious soil year by year. I am basically growing soil:)
      Usually I make a mix of both seed and seedlings that I got in my nursery. In the very beginning of starting this part of the garden I also mixed in some compost into the beds , just as a starter!
