I just picked up a 2010 NT 700 in November 2023. I had some issues with what turned out to be a blocked fuel filter.. The machine had been sitting for quite a few years, inside the original owners heated garage woth 7k miles..
I have been scouring the Internet because of an issue I have with this machine. At low RPMs when I open the throttle quickly, it actually quit running. I have felt this before when I first got the bike in November.
I accidentally found that the spark plug caps can cause this exact issue. In fact, it wasn’t a recall, but when machines would go to the dealer for check ups, dealers were installing new caps for free.
The symptoms are, it just quit pulling it acts like you turned the key off , sometimes stalling. There were many people that described this issue on the NT 700 log that I found. They say that it is the spark plug caps..
Have you ever had this issue with you were NT 700.. I took my machine out for the first time in 2024, after I thought I had the fuel starvation problem solved. And it did one of those , it felt like the engine just shut off for a couple seconds..
I’m ordering a new set of spark plug caps today. But have you ever experienced this.. They claim that old, spark plug caps or spark plug caps on these machines in high temperature areas suffer from cracks in the insulator cap and they leak, Meaning that the spark does not get to the spark plug lighting the mixture. Instead, it goes through the crack in the cab to the valve cover.
Did you ever experienced this with your machine?

I have not. I have owned mine since new and it currently has 26k miles with no problems. Not to say that it’s possible for you to be having spark plug caps that are arcing. For how inexpensive they are, I’d change them just to get it out of the equation.

Thanks! I JUST got a '10 NT700v and am trying to learn my way around it.
You didn't show or mention loosening the pinch bolts on the R/H side, but I assume that needs to be done also to remove the axle?
I'm looking for a vid on how to get at the headlamps...I'd like to add a modulator, but can't find ANYTHING on that issue. Please make one if you haven't already :-) Thanks!
