Luffy is the mc of an anime that is designed to have a lot smaller frame. we do not have planet and universe destroying powers here, while in Dragon ball every second character can blow up planets with ease. Literally, what ever he imagines he can do. Stated in chapter 1044 "imagination is his only limit putting smiles on faces" What do Looney Toon characters do? They do things only we can imagine and make us laugh and smile. Oda created Luffy as the son he always wanted. Goofy, joyful, loving and caring. We have had many sad moments in the show so having a transformation that can bring back some joy is nice to have and very different from any other anime. Nice reaction tho!

I feel like you would enjoy Zoro‘s fighting style more. But there are two things I would like to say. There are currently 9 members in the strawhat crew. And everyone of them has his own way and story to a fight. Whilst Luffy is someone who always fights with his hearth and enforces his will onto the enemies, somebody like Zoro fight‘s with his brawn and tries to make the enemies bow before his strength. The other Strawhat’s all have a completely different theme going on. Then my second point. The fight‘s where never the heart of the one piece story. It’s everything that lead up to that point and everything that will be liberated through that fight. So naturally one piece Fans are hyped for the battles because they can see how the crew finally solve the problem that was built up so far. And mostly it‘s „punch bad guy“ but even then there is an underlying story to the way the fight plays out and there first must be a way to actually get this far. Then there are arcs where the crew can‘t beat the big boss and some where they didn‘t even want to beat him because he‘s lost the will to dream, see Bellamy who only got slapped after he tried to crush someone else’s dream but couldn‘t provoke the crew to fight him when he tried to beat them up. One Piece was always way more than fights and that’s the reason it‘s so long. Because the world is so fleshed out which is absolutely impressive. And like you‘ve said „what is this sh*t?!“ It‘s something different. No shade on dragonball, it‘s a good show. But do we really need every shonen to be a powerlevel series? Something new is refreshing. And the power to bend reality to his will aka Toonforce is just the perfect fit for the man that will free himself and everyone else, in a world that is so postapocalyptic and imprisoned like the world of one piece. Do you catch my drift? I hope so because english just isn‘t my native language.
