At my level, free wood is definitely key but like you sometimes it can be more trouble than worth it, Work has never gotte me rich but we paid the mortgage and raised 5 kids...rich enough for me.
I just sell a little wood to campers near me now. I am old and have bad knees so I am limited to what I can do. I am also in an area where everyone has wood. I used to sell 4 cords a weekend to campers, but now there are 10 people selling wood between town and the campgrounds. I no longer can do what I did then. I have 80 cords stacked and covered. I only use about 10 cords a year now. I try to cut and split a little every day, like you, for the exercise. It keeps me moving. Some people are educated far beyond their intelligence. Great video.
I had quite a few dead red oak trees around my house. Some were killed by the spongy moth caterpillar and others were infested with carpenter ants. I called a tree service and they would have charge me $1,000 per tree trunk to remove. Which I could not afford. So I had purchased a 1978 John Deere 310-B three years ago to refurbish because I had owned a Ford 6500 years ago and really liked operating them. The first year I took down a bunch of trees and sold the wood to a guy that sells fire wood. This year I purchased a log splitter that needed work and refurbrished it and then sold over ten full cords of wood. This year I plan to finish taking down the rest of the dead trees to sell next year. I totally agree with what you are saying. Hard work brings exercise and fulfillment and understanding if you are willing to learn. I have enjoyed the journey so far. Made mistakes and improvements thanks to you and other people.
Great video you covered all bases on this at tree service we just use are own cause people bring in garbage to get rid of so owner said no his three crews supply enough to sell thousands and thousands of dollars for fire wood. Sells but have money invested but does ok it takes money to make money and they started with a lot of money and gave good price and treating people like you want to be treated makes a difference thanks Chris just putting in my two cents

This is a great video. It really answers a lot of questions about the wood selling business. I remember back Years ago back before I cut my trees down I was asking someone about cutting a tree down and they were going to charge to have wood removed. I thought they would be happy to get the wood for firewood but no they just cut down trees lol. Then I found out there's all kinds of tree cutting companies that would love to have you haul away wood from tree's they cut down.

The video I didn't know I needed, I am in engineering school and love to do things on the side. I just picked up my first 3 dump trailers of oak and silver maple wood. Going to try splitting it and selling it !!
Hi Chris. Another excellent video. I agree with all of this. Any one deciding to start a new firewood business has to know what the local market is. Then they can decide what products they can and want to compete with. Knowing where your log supply is coming from is important. Buy equipment based on needs, which is the most efficient way to turn logs into the products your customer expects. Don't overlook the need for an efficient material handling process.
I'm burning wood to heat my home in winter so free wood is crucial. I keep my eye out while driving around and collect anything i find. In Scotland, UK it's mostly ash, birch, larch, beech, Scots pine. Hey, it all burns. It's a lot of work to collect it, cut to size, chop and stack but i like the challenge and exercise. When i think of the value of the wood that we have that's going to keep us warm it's well worth the effort. I think work is the key word, ppl just don't seem to want to put in the blood, sweat and tears.

Never going to get rich selling firewood, and I don't need to. I have a frugal lifestyle and can do well earning $5000/year since i I'm off grid with not much for bills. Ordering trucks of logs is very low profit for me, but does build inventory. It's not fun to tell a customer we're sold out, ar least not until December. Where I make money is when I grind weeks in the bush and haul out logs. It's a ridiculous amount of work but when i sell a cord doing that I actually make good money. Because I run 50/50 with my brother, i put about $40 on my pocket per cord from logs we order. (Rest goes for taxes, percentage to order future logs, maintenance fund and my brother gets $40). That is when we sell a cord at $330. From the wood I haul from the bush, I can put $140 in my pocket per cord.
Nice. I make twice as much with bought logs. Time spent on gathering is low pay...hire the pro for the right job. McDonalds does not raise cows or grow potatoes.
Please help me. I own a campground and I'm arguing with my park manager about the size I want my firewood to be. For the campfires. I have a log splitter and I say he cuts them to big and I like them smaller I like them about 14-16 inches long and the width is what we argue about. I like it smaller he splits them all to big I can't even pick them up with one hand I have to use 2 hands. Please settle our argument. He says it's standard size I say NO it needs to be smaller. Help.... I'd like to send you a picture but it won't let me.
Haha i am lazy because i am smart. I hate working hard so i find the easiest/laziest way to do something to save energy to work for longer. As the saying goes, get a fat person to do the job because he will find the easiest/laziest way to do something. There is a reason is to why he is fat eh. Another great video Chris!
Why not just add a tree removal service? You can make $3,000 a day easy, just take trees with a lean away from property. I've done it before, its big easy money as long as you take easy trees.

Number 6: Cats. Have more cats in your woodyard than anyone else. Be like Chris ;-)

Your brother is right. Ridgeline is not a truck 😂
It work like one for me but bigger is better!
As to the question of how much wood, the correct answer is all of it 😊
Yes, I like that!
16" is standard.
I have the firewood, did I hear get rich? 😮 🎉🎉
Maybe!
DODGE! DUCK! DIP! DIVE! AND DODGE!

Thanks for watching!
Good Morning Woodhounds!!(-;
Good morning😊
Hello!
Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
okay?
Your nick name has to be Woodchuck, lol
Nope, usually stinky or glutton or rookie! Thanks!
Why not just add a tree removal service? You can make $3,000 a day easy, just take trees with a lean away from property. I've done it before, its big easy money as long as you take easy trees.
I have 3 businesses....that is my limit for now.
How much wood do I need? MORE!!! (USER)
More is the right number!
GMA, GNI!
Thanks!
