Love this. There's a bit of an old fashioned idea of a rhythm pickup and lead pickup, especially in guitars. Nice to hear a pickup expert saying to balance the volume of pickups evenly

Bass players been doing the balancing act for decades! Some have separate volume knobs/pots, others have a balance pot and others it's with switches.
But what's with those guitars with 4 pickups taking up ALL the room between the neck and the bridge/saddle? Like WTF?

Thanks for the great video. Basic and too the point. I have a Squier Jazz Bass that needs a good setup but I didn’t know the details. Now if you could do a pickup height adjustment on an Epiphone Viola Bass video

Very interesting. If you go by the official Fender stats the bass side (of each bridge & neck pickup) should be 2.4mm and the treble side 2.0mm. Would the strength of your pickups influence the optimum height decision?

I would assume so. I just installed Seymour Duncan SPB3s and, as they are a hotter set, I'll likely have them farther away from the string than Fender would recommend.

Hi, I’m installing a Fralin JP bass pickup set. The poles on the long bridge pickup stick up different heights from the plastic housing - the four poles in the middle stick up more than the end poles. Is this normal?

Yes, just measure the top(bass side) and bottom(treble side)poll pieces. I would check online to see if those particular pickups have adjustable poll pieces, if not then I wouldn’t worry too much about it being abnormal

Yea it's a design choice they make. Some pickups have staggered poles like yours and some have equal length poles.

Dear Radioshop, I own a japan jazzbass, just like the one in the video and I did what you did, but I find the E and the G string louder than the A and D, I think because of the fretboard radius the middle strings are further away from the pick-ups than the E and G string, is my assumption right? And what to do about it?
    Thanks✋🏼

You can't do anything. But Dimarzio Model j. You can adjust every little plots. I've got also a Fender MIJ 94 (62' reissue) with a 7.25 radius

I play very soft and clean so I keep my strings high enough that there is no buzz anywhere.
I noticed a clicking sound when I was fretting the low E string. I dropped the pickup as far as it would go. That was the problem.
I don't like any noise pollution tainting the magnificence of my mindless noodling.
