In my civilian opinion, putler is all talk with his lil toys that don’t work 3/5 times.
I do think the nuclear power stations in Ukraine are going to be focused on more, so if a failure is to happen he can say he didn’t launch nukes, but got a nuclear reaction.

@@MrJdsenior It's spicier than that... In the early days of the Cold War, the USSR had a conflict with China. They talked to the USA to make sure nuking China won't trigger MAD. The answer was No.
China is well aware of this today. China isn't known for forgiving and forgetting ancient crimes. China has a huge land border with Russia. Imagine the MAD paranoia on both sides if a precedent was set for tactical nukes being a means of grabbing land in a neighbour state war.
Finally, the days of ridiculing the "Star Wars" program are done. The Iron Dome has proven viability of missile defence. Putin definitely doesn't have as many functional nukes as advertised and is very clearly worried Armageddon would fall short of mutual on the wrong side. With Russia's recent track record of predicting simpler scenarios, there is nothing more scary to him than finding out how this one actually plays out.

Sometimes I think that Ukraine fight so succesfully against a country three times bigger than themselves is basically not because the ukrainian army is that good. Rather it´s a pretty normal army. The explanation is that they are fighting against what is not a normal force, but the most dysfunctional army in the world. And how that russian army works (I mean not works) is a mirror of how the whole russian society (not) works. Corruption, incompetence, lies, lies, lies...

      @jerryadams6799 44 минуты назад +1

@@196Stefan2 tritium is needed to sustain a supercritical reaction long enough to get the full yield of a particular weapon. also it is needed to shrink the mass needed for a critical runaway reaction in miniaturized nukes. it is basically why nuclear weapons are not fat man sized anymore and are launcheable on missiles instead of bombers. also you cannot just pop a port on the side of a bomb and refill it with tritium. it has to be evenly spread in the nuclear pit which means melting and recasting the pit every 11 years or so with specialized technical machines to get the tritium where it needs to be.

The issue is: even *if* you take russia's nuclear threats as real, please think further than the tip of your nose. What would deter them from using the very same threats to annex the Baltics, Poland, East Germany, Hungary, ... What would deter *any* nuclear power from simply saying "this is mine now", including North Korea, China, Iran, ... The logic of subdueing yourself when nuclear threats are made will inevitably lead to subjugation of the free people via salami tactics. So regardless of whether these threats are serious (and they definitely are not) we have to stand against them. Or have you *ever* seen a school bully back down because somebody gave them their lunch money? Or will they come back next day for more?
OTOH, if you enjoy being bullied until you lose everything you have: sure, stop supporting Ukraine, listen to Putin and enjoy his glorious leadership. But then don't complain you're poor and sent to the front against his next target of aggression.

    • @axl-j9o

MAD is redundant, automatic and absolute. The only thing new is they're trying to go ooga booga to see if we've become scared and stupid enough to bend over for no reason at all.

One thing related to the "money" sent to Ukraine, the funds are actually spent on REPLACEMENTS and community investment. For example, if we send 100 Bradleys, while the cost could be calculated as a depreciation or departmental cost, the money is spent for replacing that with a new high tech one. We send 100 old Bradleys, replaced with newly manufactured ones. We also get to SAVE some costs of maintenance which is higher on older vehicles (you know if you've ever owned an older car), and storage costs. continued...
BUT one thing most people DONT know is that ALL weapons manufacturers MUST make a community investment when the contractor wins a bid. So the cost of the 100 Bradleys not only gives us the vehicles, but also is a donation to help fix roads, or most often, goes towards school improvements. In my hometown, Lockheed paid for a new auditorium, replacing the entire flooring in the high school, and new gardens at two elementary schools.

    a) I don't see how they can authorize Ukraine to use it and not have it spill over to Russians, especially now that Ukrainians are in Russia/Kursk. If you kill the ability for it to work in the region, it will affect Ukraine.
    b) GERMANY needs to do a better job of controlling contraband out of their country, as every unit I've seen being used by the Russians traces back to Germany

@jamescavanagh4206 Of course, he still exists. I said the rumour was resignation.
The original source of this might have been Solovyev calling on the supreme commander to resign life on state tv. There is a video of him saying this, which could, I suppose, be a fake, though it doesn't look like a fake to me.
There are two things about it, mind. Who did Solovyev mean by the supreme commander. If he meant Putin, which seems logical, Solovyev must have a new boss who he believes can keep him safe. If so, Putin is probably in serious trouble.
The other source is, I believe, an ex Putin insider. Possibly, this man still has links giving him insights.
Whatever given the length of the three day 'SMO', the casualties, the invasion of Kursk and Putins' inability to throw Ukraine out. Ukraine has, in fact, increased the area of Kursk it controls. Ukraine is also driving Russian forces back to the Belgorod border. Some Russians think that Belgorod could be invaded next.
Then their is the Russian economy. Look at Russias own figures, which are know doubt massaged figures, and even these show a total disaster in the making.
This is destroying Putins' credibility. It will not be the Russian people who get rid of Putin it will be the Siloviki and the oligarchs. Particularly if he is costing both groups' money.

Another factor about the US draw-down authority programs...a lot of the stuff that gets sent is stuff that's approaching the end of its "shelf life". That is, these are weapons that are scheduled to be dismantled because they've been in storage for so long--with no realistic likelihood of being deployed--that they're slated to be broken down and recycled or disposed of. It frees up depot space for replacements, and spares the US the expense of decommissioning the weapons. In some ways, the US is actually saving money by sending those weapons to Ukraine--they were already going to spend money replacing them, but sending the weapons to Ukraine spares them the expense of decommissioning.
That also means they are getting demonstrations of the quality of their weapons, but the demos aren't even the latest, greatest stuff coming off the production line in many cases.

    • @MrJdsenior
      @MrJdsenior 5 часов назад

@@ruthwhall3020 I SERIOUSLY doubt, as someone who has worked with the systems that arm and initiate those nukes, that an explosion of the missile would initiate a nuclear explosion, but it could spread radiation all over hell's half acre, from the propellant blast. I've read that, "all but one safeguard' failed in those inadvertently dropped warheads in the media several times, but what they don't say is that you could have 100 more fail and it wouldn't matter. There is one TOTALLY critical safeguard in our initiators, and that is that the entire system that begins the chain is never energized until just before the weapon is to be activated. Without that energy, nothing will happen.
I would hope, and am virtually sure, that the Russians did the same with theirs, mostly due to the fact that there has never been an unintended nuclear initiation in all the decades they have sat in those silos, and launchers. This isn't to say that there is no way for such a system to fail, that technology does not exist, but the likelihood is EXCEEDINGLY small. Also, at least with the weapons I worked on, the cables to those exploding bridge wires that begin the chain of explosions toward the big one, were removed until it was time to go, and shorting plugs placed on the open end of the cable, on the missile, that led to that system. Let me tell you, engineers and operators are damned safe about that sort of thing. I worked on shorter range tactical type systems, not ICBMs, but I expect those same ideas apply across the board.
We actually did have a missile explode in a silo once, ejecting the warhead up and out of the silo, for a goodly distance, with no real nuclear ill effects, other than some cleanup...so it works, in practice, and would, I expect, if that happened many, many more times. They have also been dropped out of aircraft and splattered on the ground and in the water, multiple times, without incident.

Even if we banned Temu, people would still buy the same chinese producs from western companies, but with a huge markup. Just as they have done for decades before the Temu era. @@BTheHeretic China 'offers' that service through unfair labor practices, and a workforce that will work for peanuts compared to US labor. Also, US companies have to deal with labor laws, environmental laws, etc. that limit what they can produce product for. My take is that we should be ramping up countries that more mirror our values, and that, many of them, actually have cheaper access to labor than China now does. China didn't figure out how to do any of that manufacturing on their own, they were handed it, and we can just as easily hand it to someone else. The real problem is that that money you send to TEMU for products is financing the Chinese war machine, as EVERYTHING in China is owned by the govt. Nobody can even own any property, it is all on lifetime (basically) lease from the govt, and reverts to them to be resold at death. We are funding a military that our kids may be fighting against, sooner or later....not AT ALL smart. But I do understand, at least intellectually, where you are coming from, that when money is tight, you kind of have to do what you have to do (assuming, of course). @BTheHeretic 3 часа назад

@@MrJdsenior Yes. Fully agree on all points. Still doesn't really change what I said. We'd still be funding Chinese war empire indirectly if we banned Temu. People would just continue to buy their stuff on Amazon since it would still be the cheapest. For me it's not even about the price really. On occasion I might have a quick browse on Temu and find a dozen things that I've never found on western stores. It's fine to say don't buy from Temu, but where else would I buy those things from?
I'm fairly sure we'll have Temulike stores in more morally acceptable places eventually. A lot of companies are already migrating to places like Vietnam and Mexico, but it takes time to build enough volume to be competitive.

They would need to be replaced so the U.S. pays the contractor (US companies and jobs) to make new U.S. stock. The US will pay US companies to make current gen and new weapons for UA thus creating more U.S. jobs. Your tax money would be going to this anyway the only difference is they aren’t rotting on a base somewhere.
The U.S. is getting the MOST valuable feedback and R&D for military gear and weapons systems possible. Real world battle experience against a (formerly near-pier) adversary without risking a single U.S. life. This has already lead to a major shift in U.S. military doctrine, strategy and research into drone and anti-drone warfare. This would never have happened in a proactive manner without ensuring the UA stays in and ultimately wins this war.
The amount of money that will be on the table to rebuild half of the entire country of Ukraine from the ground up is immeasurable and the U.S. will benefit greatly from these contracts with everything from John Deere tractors, caterpillar machines, building materials, everything. Not to mention there will be loans to the U.S. to be repaid

The Russian strategic command thinks his commander has over 5000 troops in an area when there are less then half of that because the commanders are NOT reporting the losses so they can keep cashing out the debit card payday of the fallen soldier for as long as possible. The more fallen is more money per month. So they send them to collect their debit pay cards after they fall and the command is thinking they have double what they really have and then wander why the unit was so ineffective.

Huh? Ukraine was invaded, they are fighting for their literal existence, as a people, a culture, a heritage, and a country. Ukraine didn't make ANYTHING happen, except the Russians not be able to take over the entire country, post haste. They REQUIRE those weapons to do that, and beg for them. I do not understand your comment. I do understand the broken hearts with respect to war, though, very much. But there are fates much worse than death, unfortunately, and being ruled by Russia is well up on that list, as the Ukrainians are aware, many of them first hand. That is why they are willing to die to prevent it. I'm guessing that I misunderstood your comment, but JIC I did not, that is my reply. If I did, never mind. ;-)

The pentagon and SpaceX are working together to try cut off Russia's access to Starlink - which is hard because they operate on the frontlines in Ukraine together with the UAF. Elon's company does not sell Starlink directly to Russia, the Russians procure it on the European market and then transport them to Russia. SpaceX has been providing intelligence to US pentagon about all these activities proactively, so it would not be fair to say Elon is getting a pass or that he is only interested in making money.

Starlink does not work that way. Starlinks are not sold in Russia. The starlinks that are in Russia are purchased in other countries that do sell them and are active. This means they receive them from the black market or other means. This also means that they do not know which serial numbers belong to the ones Russia has. So in order to shut them down they would have to shut down the region which means Ukraine's starlinks would be shut off too. You do not understand how it works so you should not be calling Elon Musk a traitor, which is punishable by death, when you do not know what you are talking about. He has done a lot for Ukraine's ability to communicate at a cost to his company and himself. You in your misunderstanding have become a spreader of misinformation yourself. As an American I find this disturbing. You should correct this claim, apologize to Elon Musk and to the American citizens who find your unfounded attack as a slap in the face to the very people who support you.

No, he should just be required to deny service to any Starlink communications from, or Starlink communicators to, Russia. That would be adequate, IMO, anyway. And no, I don't like him either, not even a little bit, but sense in law is appropriate.
