Great video. Thanks for sharing. Looking at something for 12k ish. Would you suggest 2020 Hyundai Kona 64kw (new model) with 70k on the clock, or Tesla 3 standard 19/20 plate but with 120k on the clock? The main difference is Kona is 300mile and Tesla is like 250mile range. Both are out of warranty pretty much...
Would be more interesting if you could research... the initial purchase price on these cars.... plus replacement battery pack cost including the fitting..
Initial retail is irrelevant, as 99% of all these vehicle are ex lease , and funders never paid retail ! I say this from being inside the lease industry and i saw regular 15/20% off list for big buyers. Then the lease agreement asks for £4/5k up front , then £300 a month over 3 or 4 years. The purpose of these videos is the show how much EVs are as a used buy and the great USED value they can be. As regards replacement battery cost , most have a 8 or 10 year warranty , and after then , they still work ! Look up EV battery life on google , and see how many modern EVs need 'new' battries 😉👍
Orkney Cloud JP. Orkney Cloud! Software is fine these days on version 3.2 and first service due at 2 years. Our 4 year old has no service history or at least, none on VW's system but we've had it serviced by Cleevely so it's all good. 👍
There's one stubborn problem still causing me grief with my 2022 ID.3 Pro (58kWh) on 3.2. It still won't play nice with my Ohme Pro charger and Inteligent Octopus. VW and Ohme have tried everything they know. If it is plugged in when the charger is not supplying charge it subbornly says there is a "charger or cable fault". When later in the evening the Ohme charger supplies power the car just sulks and ignores it. If I go into the app and "change the target charge percentage" while the charger is energised the car does wake up.... mostly.... but still not always. It also sometimes decides to only charge at 3kW or even lower. None of this happens if the charger is supplying power when the car gets plugged in, it happily charges to the preset charge limit (usually 80%, except if I have a long journey planned the next day). My lease is up in June 2025. I won't be having another ID.3, or probably any MEB platform car.
I have heard of this issue. Given that the car works with other chargers I would say that unfortunately the problem is with Ohme. We have used various different chargers when travelling (destination chargers overnight) with our ID.3 and not had a problem yet. I don't recall ever using an Ohme. We have used Zappi, Tesla, Rotec and even an old Indra charger as well as others which have worked just fine. Have you been able to try other vehicles with the charger to determine that it does actually work?
@@michaelgoode9555 our other car is an 11 year old Smart ForTwo ED. That works fine with the Ohme charger. Happily waits for the charger to come at off peak rate, hours after being plugged in.

The EQC 400 comes with side steps as standard because I looked at this one to order as a company car but I didn’t want the steps, sorry they said, they are standard. Had one for a month while waiting for my model Y. Nice to drive but dreadful efficiency and every time you get into the car you mess your trousers on them blinking side steps, the car isn’t big enough to need them!
We have an EQC and a MY - we much prefer the EQC as a place to be, but there’s no denying the MY is much more efficient in practically every department - more space, more range etc. - it just doesn’t feel very ‘special’ like the Merc does - more like a cheap US rental car. Sidesteps are fine, you just need to either use them if you’re short, or step over if you’re taller. I step over, my wife uses them - no biggie either way.
For about 1 year used EV,s were cheap in California then word got out . Example was City of Los Angeles sold their entice fleet of super low mile BMW i3 . About 200 cars right. They were selling for about £10 grand then all the local media outlets got wind and prices skyrocketed. A grade 1 or 2 model 3 regular range 20000 miles about is close to £30grand. There’s plenty for under that but they are dog rough.
I'd be tempted to go in person and try to win one of these, but if its going to be provisional £3k under CAP then the sellers want to try the next auction, its a long way to go to be wasting my time
