Thank you! I have an Ice cream mango tree growing in a pot here in Oregon zone 8 And it had a rough start but it is now growing new leaves! Sadly I don't think it'll survive in the ground here which is unfortunate! Seems I don't have to worry about bringing it inside during late Spring or Summer so here's hoping it does well. :)
My mom just showed me a house with a mango tree in the front yard she told me she seen it outside every winter, the tree is about 7' tall and we are in Minnesota
Great Video, Jeff ! And not just because we share the same, great first name ! -Jeff.😁👊 Here in the interior Metro Phx Zone 9B, we grow them everywhere ! I currently have 2 mango trees...once had a few more. They need protection for the 1st 2-3 winters & summers--then often do much better thereafter.
I live in Sebring, Florida. I had an ice cream and a fruit punch. Cold killed them the 2nd year in ground. Two years later, I have a 7 foot mango tree from the rootstock of the fruitpunch. I don't know what type it is but I'm going to get some new scions of a couple of varieties and add to it next year. Im still going to keep a branch of this type unless it turns out terrible.
My mango tree is probably 5-6 months old. Have it in a 5 gallon bucket to move it inside this winter in central FL 9B. Did the same with 2 pineapple plants and a fig tree. Also have a little peanut plant about 3 weeks old the squirrels grew in my yard.
My son wants a mango tree so badly. I have a good spot for one and I might consider one of those PVC boxes lined with Christmas lights until it gets strong enough to battle the elements just covered with a clothe. They are such cool looking trees and so worth it too! Zone 9b here, so I am hopeful!
The TropicalGardenGuy Good morning ! Tell me please If I plant a stone from Pickering mango Will it bear fruit If so, after how many years? And another question Will it retain maternal properties?
I am having a small saplings of mango tree just grow from seed it is growing one foot htin a small pot. Will it erect this in ground ? My son is staying in sunnyvale California . I dont knoe the temp.of that place in winter and will it grow on the ground or not?
Hi I have planted a mango tree in my house it’s about tow months old do you thing it will do good I’m from Montreal it started to get cold so please let me know if it will survive thank you
Amazing video @jeff I thank you for all your videos I was ready to plant my mango tree from seed. This cold weather came and I was thinking I should wait or what do you recommend
Hi Jeff, I live in Fremont, CA and I recently bought a 4 ft tall alphonso mango plant from the internet. Over this summer, it has grown beautiful 6" shoots and it's doing well in a pot Now I am getting ready for the winter. I am planning to repot it in a bigger container and bring it inside during the night to protect it from cold temperatures, do you think this is a good idea? Any tips / tricks you would recommend at this point?
Hi Jeff, a very informative video, any suggestion which variety of mangoes are good for small backyard specially I am looking for something which I can grow in container and also I am located in Dublin, California
@@TropicalGardenGuy I was thinking it might be possible if I got a cold hardy variety like you mentioned and just wrapped it heavily during the winter and mulch it heavily as well
Keeping my fingers crossed.. I put out 32 gallon trash cans filled with water in an attempt to raise the temperature a bit. Also hope my 2 years of woodchip mulch helps out. Thanks Jeff for your videos very helpful. I'm located in Fresno and have some young mango trees in dormant. When do you see your most growth?
Yes , Mangos would do fin in the citiy’s z10 winters. The problem might be the chilly summer temps. If you do plant one, close to a warm wall is the way to go
I live in Northern side of Europe, so it can go down to -30 (on rare occasions) so will it surivive ???, like can i just put some plastic tarp over it, its just a seed still but im scared about the future?
tsk tsk tsk, so can just cover it up with cloth and stuff, that might work, main winter temeperatures can be around -15 and -20, -10@@TropicalGardenGuy
I'm in San Francisco. We don't get frost. What we also don't get is the warm days that you get. Average temperature here is 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Mostly foggy, and overcast. I guess that's why nobody in SF has a tropical orchard.
Don’t scare me! I am just venturing out to grow my own mango in San Jose when we get below zero a few nights. Wish me luck and if my mango tree grows, I will share the fruit with you.
A fruit plant growing is the proportion of height and roots. The taller tree will grow deeper and wilder. So it will damage the house if it planted too close.

Found your channel not too long ago Jeff. Your knowledge is outstanding. Love the topics and presentation 👌
Thanks! Happy Growing… Jeff

Mango struggles in temps below 32f
I am in Minnesota too and want a mango tree
@kristal3580 you can grow mangos in cold climates by bringing them inside during cold months in a pot
I loved this video I am so passionate about growing out the box. I live in zone 7B NYC. Breaking all the growing Rules
If I were in your area I’d still be pushing the envelope!
Happy Growing!
Awesome video, Jeff!
I live in Yucaipa, Ca, and I’m planning on growing a mango tree.

Hi Adam, my low was only 34f, tonight may be a different story!
@@TropicalGardenGuy it got below 32 out here. But I hoping for the best tonight.

How's your plants doing any damage? My ice-cream banana was just putting out a flower start. It looks damage but will see it hasn't opened up.
I hit 32f, looks like some browing of my bananas leaves.
Great videos .very informative.

I don’t think it will survive the cold.
You’ll have to protect it below 0c

Unless absolutely necessary, I would leave in the current pot. Indoors plants seem to do better in small pots

Manila is my go to, I bet it will work for a couple years in a container
@@TropicalGardenGuy thank you for quick response but I would need to grow it in containers only like the 20-30 gallon ones as my backyard is small.
Can you grow them in New Jersey Zone 7a?
I doubt it

Can you go to mahochanoc mango tree in the United States? Beautiful yellow fruit
Not sure
Wondering if it's possible in the Sacramento valley?
It’s difficult, but as you se in video it’s been done in Fresno and our climates are similar

dont forget to cover them! I see most growth in late spring.
Which mango tree I should buy for Atlanta, GA
Your choice, but you’ll need a greenhouse
Any damage report for last night? Got down to 29 at my place on the Peninsula.. =(
I had 34f. Scared me because I woke up at 1am and thought were were gonna freeze, but we stayed at 35f all the way to sunrise then it dropped a degree
@@TropicalGardenGuy do you keep your own weather station or a simple weather guage?
I have a weather station and 6 separate Bluetooth calibrated recording thermometers
How did you fare over the last 3 days? 27 for me and I refuse to take the burlap cover off the tree. Hope it didn’t get fried for good…
my lowest morning was 32f… everything is looking good, though light bronzing of banana leaves tells me it was a lil cooler

@Muff04 absolutely will die, unless you bring it inside or build a full blown greenhouse
ok, so i cant afford a greenhouse, and it wont fit eventualy inside (its still a seed)
maybe eventualy i could sell it to a mango farm?@@BManStan1991
Very good idea to use the wall as a heat sink.

Yea if you were about 5 degrees warmer it would be better
So it'll be possible to grow a mango tree somewhere in West Virginia in a greenhouse ?
Yes of course as long as the greenhouse temps don’t drop below 35f or so.
, this is fantastic news. I will keep you up to date with God's will.
Happy growing!
How did that tree do this winter where we got to 27 degrees?
My large one did great. The new one I planted 6 mo ago…. Not so good
Is there any chance to grow in zone 7?
Only if you build a structure over it.
