As a man who has run a metronome for a couple of seasons with a marching band, I can honestly say that not a day goes buy without that noise running through my head. But the Cavis sound absolutely. Favorite show of the season.
That section swings like crazy. And that's not my opinion, that was told to us after a show by Al Chez (Letterman's lead tpt player and Cadet alum) and Jamey Aebersold (no description needed). Then watch the end of the 05 show and see how hard the drill is and how good it sounds. That is Cavaliers horn playing at its best. The lines this year and last are just not up to snuff.
In my opinion, the best line they put out was the 2005 hornline. I don't care about the opinions about the show concept or anything like that, just take a listen to the "baseball" section. Listen to the trumpets, mellos, and baris play incredibly difficult lines with skill and inflection and style. Especially the trumpet line and realize that 20 people are playing that line, not 4 or 5. Then listen to the swing section at the end, first with your eyes closed and listen how smooth it all sounds.
that last chord is gross. i hope someone said something about that baritone who just decided to blow the door down at the end. as a vet of this group, it saddens me to hear the sounds coming out of the bells of my corps. All volume, no finesse. listen to the hornlines from 2002 - 2007 and a little bit 2008. those hornlines could play circles around anyone in the activity, maybe not in the volume category, but it quality of sound and technique.
