FYI there is a "freeze glitch" at about the 15-min mark in this video....[and it lasts for like 10 seconds].....probably because I'm enjoying my burger and shake so much 🤣! Also go follow: Stephen's Channel: www.youtube.com/@TheSeriousRunner
These types of videos have always been my favorite of yours! Also, 2:45 with a warmup, cooldown, and lot of wind is hardcore!
We need more videos like this, its originally why I subscribed to your channel 10 years ago.
Yes Sage! An OG style video, absolutely loved it, good to see you in such good shape 🎉 well done bottle claus 👏
Really like these types of workout training videos, actually can learn a lot from the the way Sage did this long run, shows ya how important getting the right fuelling is, good luck with Honolulu marathon ✅👏🌴🌲🌲👣🙏😀
The king is back!
These are some nice running paces and cool training. Sage is barely out of breath at the end... amazing
You know Sage is in the Zone when the Eurobeats are the soundtrack 😁
Go Sage 🎉
Great video, gives me inspiration ❤👊🏾
Thank you sir, great to see you looking so fit and well.
Solid day out. Hydration will be key for race day. You got this!
Great work out. I look forward to seeing how you do in Honolulu
Thanks for the inspiration Sage. Going on my 6th month of running and soaking in all the training tips. Consistently logging 35-40 miles a week now.
nice work! keep it up!
Marathon video for sure~ Best of Luck!
I'm here for bottle claus
Folllow @TheSeriousRunner
Wow. Impressive work Sage, especially in those nasty winds. I know those winds well as we often get similar winds up her in Alberta. Great effort pushing through those at that pace. 👍
Love this video ! Finally a good content as expected from you. I would say you are a proper runner and all these kofuzi, BITR and others are commission agents for shoe companies. Prefer your content any time over their rubbish 😂😂...
‘Today we die a little’ is a seriously good book for serious runners!
Hanna's Herb Shop getting a huge plug here you love to see it
Really great workout 👍 And I hope we will get a new instalment in the sub 2 hour marathon video series that you were doing over the years, now that we are getting closer and closer to that barrier 😛
Aye yo Sage way up dawg
"I'm going to take my shirt off" - "That's good, your views will go up" - something only a serious runner would say:)

@@TheSeriousRunner it was hot out! Not all of us want to wear a Tracksmith singlet on every training run!
@@Vo2maxProductions Ya but he is sponsored......or soon to be anyways:)
@@cpruns4501 any day now.... 🤞
road racing sage is my favorite 😀
Looking pretty fit buddy! 🦵💪
Beast 2:45 as a wrkout...love it!
Beast mode 😅 Go crush it in Honolulu 🎉!!!
Great seesion sage . Gee at least 10min quicker at all he same effort without the wind? That was brutal
Yeah, the wind was kind of annoying! I give myself 10sec/mile alone just because of the altitude. Then the wind guests were a bit inconsistent but maybe another 10 sec/mile easy. Then the relative heat (not really super hot compared to what Hawaii will feel like, but for sure a warmer than ideal kinda day for a faster marathon long run). Then there was nearly 1000' of climbing on the route 🤣
Is there a formula what that equates to at see level with no wind 😂
Have a great race, I’m really enjoying the channel, I’ve been watching it from the start, is it nearly 10 years?
Meta Burger
Is this really a car-free loop? No crossings, not even a driveway? Where is this? Looks like a good route and great workout!!
Boulder! Easy 10-12 miles of bike path with no cars/crossings/stops
@@Vo2maxProductions Wow perfect! I didn't know if it was just 4 or 5 miles and you had to do a bunch of laps. What is this called? I was running in Boulder years ago hoping to find something like this.
Why do your wear calf sleeves? What are the benefits? Do you wear them in races?
They felt like they were "holding my calfs together" better with the slight pressure which can help promote blood flow. But I've been sponsored by the brand Compressport for nearly 10 years now and their calf sleeves (R2) are what I always wear for hard workout and races! They can feel very comfy when it is cold outside as well as they provide more leg coverage when I'm wearing shorts/half tights. Also on the trails they are added protection from long grass/scrapes/bushes etc.
Hey Sage, whats your goal (time) for Honolulu?
I don't know....I think it really depends on exactly how hot and humid it is on the day (As well as how steep the hills are). It's certinaly not a "time trial" kind of course for a super fast time. After my pulmonary embolism I'm also not sure i can ever crack 2:20 again or OTQ ever again anyway. Hopefully under 2:30. Closer to 2:25-2:27 would be better and probably pretty good considering the course, weather, my lung condition and coming off of a 100-mile mountain ultra like TDS a few months ago. I'd also like to place in the top 10.
I wouldn't say training out here in Colorado has been going ideal as there have been some hicups withe snow/ice storms now, some minor aches and pains I've had to adjust the training plan for... and a lot of behind the scenes-busy stuff (more on that later!).
@@Vo2maxProductions Alright, thanks for the insights. Sounds like a reasonable goal and approach to get back into road Marathons. 👌
Is it me, or Sages form looks kinda better, looks like good glutes usage?
Hey coach. What brand shin/calf compression sleeves are those? I need some.
They are Compressport R2 calf sleeves...I am sponsored by them, but I like how they feel and work.
What running belt are you wearing in the workout?
It's a @camelbak Ultrabelt....holds the Iphone and some gels very nicely! I mainly race ultras in it
what are your thoughts on consuming 100-120 grams of carbs per hour, like elite cyclists have been doing , for a marathon or ultra for that matter?
It's easier to consume more on a bike compared to running. It depends on the product. I can do 2 Spring energy gels an hour easy (50-60grams) and then probably drink another 30-40grams within that hour (of sports drink). For a marathon and under (hopefully less than 2.5 hours or less for me still!) I can handle that and need that kind of carb "rocket fuel"...for a longer ultra (especially over 6 hours or 50-miles/80km) I generally would be eating less and not as often because of the sheer duration and lower intensity (and risk of GI distress over time).
they actually train to consume that much but the results are incredible
@@Vo2maxProductions
Whats your avg heart rate on a run like this??
It's all on Strava....I think average was in the 150s. One the faster surges it got up to the 160s
I mean no disrespect, but just curious if you monitor your diet and try stay away from soy products? I’m no scientist but I think that lowers T levels, and I wander if your T levels are optimal? Just curious! Not trying to start a diet war. Love your videos been watching since day 1.
I grew up eating Tofu (and all sorts of soy products) since I was a young child. It does not directly "lower T levels" as there are a lot of factors invovled in that. There has been a lot of buzz online from people that are against soy that like to cite certain studies that show it can influence T and estrogen levels (lots of things can from hops in beer to running high mileage!) but generally you'd have to be eating a ton of soy isoflavones in some sort of concentrated supplement and there are a lot of variables involved with other food items you are eating with it. For protein I'm eating a wide variety of other amino acids from nuts to other legumes and pea protein etc. Most soy i eat is from tofu a few times a week. I do monitor my Tesosterone levels with my sponsor Athlete Blood Test multiple times a year.... and they are in the normal range. High mileage running and beer for sure can decrease testosterone levels though and so that is always a tough balance. Thanks for your support and hope you are doing well.
Nice video and work out. Great to see you both in the video. Looked pretty hard out there in the wind, so best of luck with the rest of the training an on race day.
Nice work - that wind looked brutal!!
Riding that wave of momentum Sage! What a year you're having mate. So stoked to so you firing in a big way!
Are the rocket X2 vegan?
Great training fun video out with a friend!!
Hi Sage, what earphones are you wearing in this run?
Monster session 👍
Nice work Sage! Amazing paces👍🏼 For the race, will you be wearing headphones and listening to your tunes, or no?
No. In a lot of races they don't allow headphones. But I've found (even in 20 hour ultras) that I don't need music during a race. I also won't have to carry the weight of that phone....as usually in a low 2 hour marathon (which I can hopefully still run) that's a significant weight considration
