Hello, i hope you don’t mind I recently switch from 50T to 39T on my brompton M6L and counted my chain links, a total of 96 links including the power/master link. Have you experienced noise in the lowest jockey wheel in the chain tensioner making like a grinding noise? When shifting and peddaling to 2nd, 4th and 6th gear (13T) 1st, 3rd, 5th (16T) seems to be fine.
Appreciate your response! I might try and remove again 2 chain links. I am assuming my chain links is still long. I just base my assumption when i compared both pictures of my brompton and yours. I hope it works! 🥲🥲🥲
Brompton's crank BCD130 smallest chainring at 38T,if 32T must change crankarm to BCD110 JIS Square Tapper. Can not small to 26T on MTB crank arm because chainline not compatible by Brompton chainline 43.5 but MTB 48.5.
I'm not sure I understand the question completely. Are you asking how many links to remove? Probably 2 or 3. Start with 2 links, then see how it looks. Good luck! I think the answer can also be found in the technical section of Brompton's official site.
Hi! I'm interested in doing this as well (I currently have a M6L with reduced gearing already, but would appreciate even lower gears for steep extended hills). I was wondering if you've run into any issues with this set up? Would any 130bcd 39T chainring (i.e. 8, 9, 10 speed) work, or is the Brompton chain compatible with all of them? Thanks! This is a v cool mod without the trouble of having to get a double crank or schlumpf, rohloff, etc :D
Very sorry, i just noticed your message now. I have over a hundred videos posted; hard to see new messages sometimes. I swapped the original chainring for a Dura Ace model that was 10 speed compatible. Seems to work ok with the stock chain after I shortened it. But after a while(or I think when the OEM chain wore out) I also swapped my chain to a 10 speed Ultegra model. Lighter and longer lasting than original. Hope this helps.
The Shimano ring doesn't have a way to attach a guard. One of the guard's function is to help keep the chain on the ring. I'm using a ring designed to be next to an outer ring, has ramps and pins. Chain sometimes jumps to the outside when using the derailer. I just need to remember to stop pedaling for a split second before shifting. No more chain jumping. Ps, I use clipless pedals.
Cool video thanks for uploading
did you have to remove any links from the chain to get the chain tensioned on?
@RNateSycles Yes. I forgot to mention in the video. Ended up removing 1 or 2 links to get the right tension.
@@1nterceptor thank you bro!
It was a good opportunity to install a new chain.

Sorry, didn't notice any noise after doing the mod.

If i replace a 32T with a 26T, would I have to do anything special with the change due o the big tooth difference?
You'll need to shorten your chain.

minimum crank on brompton is 33. othrrwise it will mess up with metal cable holder located on chainstay
hi, how many links to remove from 44t to 39t?
Hi @Fikri Achmad, it was 2 links if I recall correctly. But try 1 first. Then another if it doesn't look right. Can't remember really. :)
Hi, if i want to swap from 54T to 44T, how many ring need to remove?

@@1nterceptor 4 links

Excellent video! How do you like the 39t so far?
Very good for climbing hills.
@@1nterceptor by the way, is that a 10 speed chainring?
@@velt1208 Yes; i also swapped to a 10 speed Shimano Ultegra chain: www.flickr.com/photos/44332608@N03/27326480584/
@@1nterceptor thank you. I just got my brompton today with a 50t chainring and plan on swapping soon.
Hi there. Is that 130 BCD?
Bryan Chan yes
Thanks for sharing the video. Nice Brompton bike. Quick question, so you don't need chain guard for the Shimano chainring?
There's no way to attach a guard since the Shimano ring doesn't have provisions for one.

too mutch slack on chain
Yeah forgot to mention to shorten chain. Took out 2 links I think if I remember correctly.
