Don't be ashamed for at least trying and finding out how hard this is. Also, don't forget that this is heavy-shoe stuff, where every Irish dancer usually gets taught soft-shoe dances first.
I started Irish dance with a completely open mind back in 2011 as a 23 year old guy. I had no idea how far I would get (if I could even do it at all at my age) but I did get hooked. I did die from sore muscles a day later, but I'm still into it 10 years later. The only thing is that you immediately gain A LOT of respect for all those dancers when you put your feet into a pair of heavy shoes for the first time. They HURT in the beginning and when you try to use them the way you are meant to, the pain gets even worse and you feel how much strength it takes to stand on the tips and such.
I also think there are basically 3 levels of general difficulty: 1. Solo dances on soft-shoes. Just try and master them first, which is hard enough. 2. Solo dances on heavy shoes: whole different game as you now need to have your feet loose to be able to hit the floor with the tips and heels to produce sound.
3. Had fun with 1 and 2? Try a group-dance and prepare to have a brain-meltdown and be thrown back to the beginning ;)

The all male version is particularly impressive. I also much prefer River Dance with the arms stationary. Some try to do it while flailing the arms to give in "more intensity" but it just looks sloppy and takes away from the amazing precision of this dance form.

The best of the best. I was in love with Michael Flatley from the first day I saw him. I saw Lord of the dance in Stamford Connecticut many many years ago and was absolutely mesmerized as I still am today.

Wow, wonder how many calories they burn with one routine?!---Wasn't that an amazing sound?! I saw a ballet in Ukraine once, was close enough to hear the toe points hitting the stage, lost all interest in ballet after that. I shouldn't have been surprised at the sound, but was. These guys hitting the boards was part of the drama!
I saw an interview with his company years ago and one of the dancers said they burn about 3,000 calories per performance.
