"judging/comparing your ideas before they're even recorded is a sure way to get writer's block" is something I've been trying to unlearn in the past couple years. My partner who's a genuinely creative person had said for years that she doesn't know what writer's block is cuz she doesn't consumer her own creation. As a creator, it's not our job to consume and judge our own works. However, I didn't grow up creating, especially when it comes to writing music so it was very hard for me to adopt this mindset. I'm still in the process of unlearning to be critical of my composition before it takes shape. Thanks for doing this Raoul. It's always been inspiring to watch you do your magic. You always say there are people who do tutorials better than you whatnot, but you have your own touch that others don't. Keep on rocking with this please and god bless!

It's such a critical point and it also took me years of writing music, creating art in general to realize that and discipline myself: to be honest, I've only been comfortable with my output since the last year or so. Glad your partner was able to help you through this thought process! And thank you for the kind words 🙏🌸
Dude. Super insightful. Love your approach, and listening to your stuff on proper speakers here really shows how ridiculously good at production you are. Phone speakers can't handle the heft and sparkle

Wow, this was so insightful. Thanks for putting so much time and thought into this! I'll be sure to return here for inspiration and to build a plugin/virtual instrument wishlist XD

Thank you for stopping by Geordi, glad you got something from it 🙂🙏

Amazing! Maybe I missed it but do you play on a midi drum kit first or do you draw everything by hand?

I write everything by hand, I dream of the day I have my own drum studio. The current next step is to move to a bigger room and use an electronic drumkit.
hey, i have noticed in the Periphery track you split the bass into "bass" and "bass sizzle" I have usually only seen the split into bass low and bass so what frequency are you splitting at and how do you process the 2 signals ?

Hi, just doubled checked the project and it turns out I duplicated the DI track to add even more high end (hipass at around 900Hz, 20dB boost high shelf around 7kHz, limited for consistency). That's the bass sizzle track, it'd mixed in very gently under the main track.
As I've said in the video, I cut the noise when I need the gaps to be dead silent. Otherwise I'd rather do another take than slice audio, nudge etc. I feel like it strips a lot of the natural groove and imperfections (no DI captured either) 🙂

how much do you edit guitar audio track ?
