    Thank you for these vids. I know you probably made them for your students, but I'm reading this as non student and always be sure to get another point of view to reaffirm what I just read and make sure I did not misunderstand anything here. Im past my school days but want to catch up on what I missed out on the interesting world of philosophy. Thank you.

    I have a background in science and have recently taken an interest in philosophy and Plato's republic is book I started with and I have to admit more then half of the time I don't know what is going on and also the English is a bit hard to understand . I have to read the same sentence a couple of times to understand it and then I move on to the next page , by the time I am done with this new page I don't remember what I understood in the previous page. I thank you sir for your efforts it's a big help.

      You can think of the book as multiple people giving their conflicting opinions on what justice is and what the just society would look like
      So don't expect one page to support the next in the same way that in a conversation on justice one speaker doesn't support the next but rather all are tied to the same subject of justice

    to complete an ardous goal, there must be a carrot at the end of the stick and something pleasurable about the process in order to maintain focus. a strong why--> a strong will + enjoyment of the self in the betterment process = consistent incremental progress

    Your videos analyzing book 2 of the Republic has been helpful. I still think you should throw more light on the example of Mother Teresa and Hitler.

    For the Natural origin of Justice did you mean 358 e-359c?
    I am self studying philosophy as a high school student and could not find that section (258e) in the book

    • @ChristopherAnadale
      @ChristopherAnadale  4 года назад +1

      You're right, the card on the screen is mistaken. It's 358, not 258. Thanks for pointing that out!

    I don't remember the details but I remember reading somewhere that Mother Terese actually did some pretty fucked things.
