He said "Today's music ain't got the SAME soul", which is true, but doesn't mean no soul. It's just harder to find it today, because the crap hasn't been filtered out by time yet.

This young man is on quite the musical journey. And I'm a 70 year old getting to relive my musical journey while enjoying his awakening to what he might have missed altogether without a proactive decision to investigate deeper. So, it's a Win Win situation showing the importance of music with positive moods and messages to all of us. As well as how unifying music can be versus so many attempts to keep us against each other.

Your journey with Bob Seger will not be complete until you check out “Still the Same” and “Against the Wind”. Rock on dude. Thanks for appreciating the music I loved in my youth! Chris Stapleton is just at the beginning of his career and Bob has just wrapped up his last tour. Both huge singing/songwriting talents.

When he was saying "today's music ain't got the same soul", he wasn't predicting future music. He recorded this about the end of the 70's disco decade and he was referring to how bad disco music was. Thankfully for many of us then, disco died shortly after he recorded this song.

My dad always said about Tina Turner and “Proud Mary” that he had heard it so many times in his life that he couldn’t listen to it anymore. I always thought “how could that be”. But then this song came along and the next 20 years, and I soon understood. You’ve probably heard Seger in commercials. His song have been in commercials for about 30 years. Chevy commercials most prominently. Maybe people haven’t requested him until now because he’s been so ever-present in everyday life that they all assume everybody has heard of him. I’ve seen your 4 or so reactions to him so far and you definitely need to hit more. Personally, I love all the song’s you’ve done so far, but there’s probably another dozen that I like better than all of those. Seger was born to do what he does and he is still doing it, from the looks of what I see on RUclips.

JB, thanks for this. I'm a classical musician but I'm also a huge Everly Brothers fan. At their concerts they used to play this song at the beginning right before they came on stage. And since the Everlys were right there at the beginning of the rock age, it was appropriate and got the audience ready for a great time!

And this was a last minute recording. Bob was recording some songs with Alabama session musicians called the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. They wanted Bob to record this song that had been written by 2 other songwriters. Bob said that he rewrote all the verses but kept the chorus and they recorded it, but he didn't ask for any writing credit because he thought the song would never be a big hit. And it was just a minor hit in 1978 but it became huge after it was used in the 1983 Tom Cruise movie Risky Business.

NO .... He said today's music ain't got the same soul .........NOT ...... TODAY'S MUSIC JUST DON'T HAVE NO SOUL ...
    1978
"Old Time Rock and Roll" is a song written by George Jackson and Thomas E. Jones III, with un-credited lyrics by Bob Seger. It was recorded by Seger for his 1978 album Stranger in Town. It was also released as a single in 1979. I was 23 and the music was FANTASTIC as the women and the cars rolled right along with the sound of the wind and the music back then .... What the hell happened to the world from the mid- 80 on

Memorial day is a day of reflection for those who gave their lives while serving their country. It's a day to take the kids to the cemetery with a bouquet of flowers and tell the kids about their grandfather who served in WW2 or Vietnam. Show them the places where the veterans who have died have flags flying in their honor. Show them those who died in Iraq and other far off lands. Tell them stories if you were told of great grandfathers in WW1. And this year we are also taking this day to remember the almost 99,000 Americans who have fallen to this year's plague. And if you can't get to the cemetery, at least raise a glass at your cookouts to those heroes we honor today. Love the song.
