Zenzile Miriam Makeba (4 March 1932 - 9 November 2008), also known as Mama Africa, was a South African singer, actor, United Nations goodwill ambassador, and civil rights activist. Associated with musical genres including Afropop, jazz, and world music, she was an advocate against apartheid and white-minority government in South Africa.
Miriam Makeba - Pata Pata watch?v=Zq5S5sH1Ikk Her most famous song, every South African loves it "Saguquga sathi bega nantsi Pata Pata" The part I like about Pata Pata the most is the click in "uh .. sah-gu- *click* -koo-gah" ("Sagu *q* uga sathi bega nantsi Pata Pata") Xhosa has three different click sounds in their language, which most second language speakers never really get right. -- EDIT: just realized I got to grow up with good music of the 80s... There is plenty of awesome music out there, especially electronic music... but the mainstream TOP40 like Katy Perry is empty and lacks substance. Personally prefer Brenda Fassie to Makeba ... both way better than mainstream stuff now watch?v=_7Fyoo_2XnE
Who doesn't know Myriam Makeba????!!!! I am shocked! It's like when people didn't know who Cesaria Evora was. Listen to the "click song" and look at what she did. This mama Africa would probably not like the singer and her very poor song compare to the master she was herself, nor Jain's father who was working in oil in Africa, that Makeba has denounced her life, stealing ressources with terrible consequences like we see today with the refugee crisis.
hola, si ya habias escuchado esta canción hace 7 años y sabías que era Arte adelantado a su época. Me encanta que por fin tenga el reconocimiento que merece!!!

The ‘Makeba’ the song mentions is the name of a person, Miriam Makeba. A singer and songwriter, Makeba was one of the most popular anti-apartheid activists in the world, and was called ‘Mama Africa’ for the work she did to popularise African music and culture among a global audience.

Thanks for letting me discover the greatness of Miriam Makeba with your song. Understanding the need this song sprung from makes it ten times better. I love how you can hear little pieces of her music in yours.
My flex is that I can say that I knew this song when it first came out. I got quite nostalgic hearing it again on tiktok, glad it’s getting the recognition it deserves.

Thanks for the info, I was just about to google the meaning!
Miriam Makeba - Pata Pata
watch?v=Zq5S5sH1Ikk
Her most famous song, every South African loves it
"Saguquga sathi bega nantsi Pata Pata"
The part I like about Pata Pata the most is the click in "uh .. sah-gu- *click* -koo-gah" ("Sagu *q* uga sathi bega nantsi Pata Pata")
Xhosa has three different click sounds in their language, which most second language speakers never really get right.
-- EDIT: just realized I got to grow up with good music of the 80s... There is plenty of awesome music out there, especially electronic music...
but the mainstream TOP40 like Katy Perry is empty and lacks substance.
Personally prefer Brenda Fassie to Makeba ... both way better than mainstream stuff now
watch?v=_7Fyoo_2XnE
Who doesn't know Myriam Makeba????!!!! I am shocked! It's like when people didn't know who Cesaria Evora was. Listen to the "click song" and look at what she did. This mama Africa would probably not like the singer and her very poor song compare to the master she was herself, nor Jain's father who was working in oil in Africa, that Makeba has denounced her life, stealing ressources with terrible consequences like we see today with the refugee crisis.

The ‘Makeba’ the song mentions is the name of a person, Miriam Makeba. A singer and songwriter, Makeba was one of the most popular anti-apartheid activists in the world, and was called ‘Mama Africa’ for the work she did to popularise African music and culture among a global audience.
Did they hate white peoples based on the color of their skin?

I heard this around 2017. It caught my ears instantly, and I wondered why this song has only a few million views. And see now finally it has gone viral and it's a huge hit now. So, the moral is alwys keep on doing the good work, succes will follow eventually.
Yes! Look at the Science and Tech that we are using now. GPS, Internet, etc. They were useless before and can only be used in Military but we are ripping the benefits.
It had over 100M views before it went viral...
"only a few million".... and thats a small thing?? stupid social media minions...
Aside from having millions of views being a good thing...
This music... African culture... Is birth of civilization! Africa was cradle of civilization and culture!
so was europe. if you have dark skin, your origins begin in africa. if light skin, europe. thats why african descendants dont have neanderthal dna in them, and europeans do.
This song would be a great movie soundtrack.

Thanks I didn't even know this
You do know that happened like forever ago right, random fact many white college student's and other white's stode up to apartheid that was one of the main reason's it was abolished but no one remender's them because they where white lol. Ps before apartheid was abolished propaganda was very common so It is very strange that anyone at all of white ethnisitity was involved in the abolition of apartheid nervertheless, it's a fact. Well the turned into a meaningless rant fast .-. I'm sorry I you had to read this much I was very very bord. More random facts the ANC currant governing party in south africa was a terrorist organizations which kill many innocent people in bombings.
Abdoullahi Mohamadou thank you for sharing
Skullrag Skullrag Are you South African? Because if you aren’t then the whole point of this is null in void because you wouldn’t know our History from a context of living here. What you read and hear is completely different from what happened and how it feels to live in a post-Apartheid society.
