Thank you, Vlad! Love your videos! 😊 What are your thoughts on the Powkiddy X55 with ROCKNIX? The 5.5-inch screen is a huge plus for me, and its price (around $55) makes it comparable to the RG Cube XX. Right now, I’m considering: RG Cube XX Powkiddy X55 Trim UI Pro I already have the RG35XX Plus (and the old Data Frog 2000), but I’m looking for something with a bigger screen and performance on par with the H700 or better. Do you have any suggestions?
The RGB cube XX has a bigger screen only for Pico 8, Gamegear, VShmups and GB/GBC/NES/SNES. The 16:9 screen makes only sense for GBA and PSP emulation. I had both the TSP and the X55. The TSP was a little faster for PSP due to Vulkan support and the screen is nicer albeit being smaller but also more pocketable. The X55 screen is really large but pressure sensitive so careful when cleaning it but the X55 has MIDI out and can be consolized. If you want a more powerful 16:9 device the next best would be the Retroid Pocket 3+ but that's 115 USD new... For around 50 Euro the TSP and X55 are very good value for money but don't expect perfect PSP emulation across the board.
@@citruesilver Correction: GBA has a 3:2 native aspect ratio, which translates better into a 4:3 screen (rendering only thin stripes in the top and bottom if not stretched) than in a 16:9, that'll leave you with thick pillars in the left and right corners unless you make everything larger to fit the whole area. That said, if you get any "4:3" system (the 3:2 GBA included) and took the tiny freedom of stretch its image by 16,666%, you'll end up having a not so perfectly accurate, but more fitting 8:7 picture - which is the internal video signal of SNES - for a 1:1 screen device - and believe-me when i say: many people even among us, old button mashers and OG cartridge blowers, hardly noticed that we were using our TVs wrong back in the day, with really, really few tooking the time and effort to perfect the settings (when available) to match the true aspect of said game; worse yet in a device that has about 7,18cm/2,82" of screen height and lenght (the 4" is the diagonal measure). A slight stretch like i said should pass unnoticed by many. As our beloved Vlad kept doing: we that lived this era just wanted the bigger screen possible to fit our TVs and see Chun-li legs and Mai boobs! Judging by @avihaishin OP and the order he pointed the options, i guess he should be looking for ergonomics with big screen over some fire power. For that i would say the X55 well set should fit despite a cheaper feel, but if you was confortable enough to sacrifice some screen lenght for eye and hands confort, the Cube will work.
The RG406H is looking like a real banger as a mid range device. It seems to hit that sweet spot in so many categories that its stable mates, like the RG Cube and RG556 doesn't quite hit.
I wait so long for the 406H. On some Days i want to Order a 405M but the Angel on my Shoulder Safe me withbthevWords "ITS too old.& too weak.. Thev406 will come..
@@VladNerd You should record an episode in 1:1 aspect and then stretch it to 16:9 before uploading to RUclips. Just to poke some fun at the folks who get really triggered by this :)
Vlad, you still haven't mentioned the best thing about the regular cube (even in its own review) which is 3ds emulation, which more than makes up for the lack of pico 8.
I am kind of keen to know what your thoughts are about the RG406H given what you have been saying about Anbernic for a while - that they have been avoiding releasing a normal horizontal handheld without obvious omissions so they can release so many others instead - this handheld kind of seems to be the one. Or it has some deal breaking flaw, ??
Told you so 😛I really like the Cube XX. It fits nicely in the hand, has enough oomph for the retro stuff I play on the move, and is generally just a nicer version of PowKiddy's RGB30. However if 1:1 isn't a must have, then I reckon a Trim UI Smart Pro (with grip and CrossMix OS) is still a better buy.
I really like your reviews, you always review stuff on how it makes you feel and not technicalities. You can tell it wont fit in a jeans pant pocket just by looking at it, you know...
Nah both RG-CUBEs are valid. One is for PS2, GameCube, 3DS, DS, and some Wii Emulation and the other is for Native Pico-8 as well as Gameboy, GBC, and Neo Geo Pocket Emulation.
@VladNerd ABSOLUTELY!!! In fact, after watching Dweeb's review of the RG CubeXX, I was just wating YOUR review to decide buying the flipping thing - now I'll go for the black one! 😅🤷🏾♂️ Thanx, Vlad! 😊👍🏾
I have no problems sacrificing aspect ratio on psp. You can still make it look decent on the cube xx. Good thing I'm not that anal about perfection. The cube xx is the best budget handheld so far.
I think it's charming by it's own way. And BTW: we always can find a middle ground between the intended aspect of something and the one that will fit better the display we have available - or simply "consolize" the thing for the times we really want/need more space.
I wouldn't bet, but guess they should start to tease the next gen of chipsets at some moment near the chinese new year, cause i can't see any new format for the them to release another XX, unless they come up with a "50/55/60XX" or a "TVXX" (or whatever they would call something in the kinds of a game stick/box with based on chip).
It's not like that. I announced in a community post + on Discord that I'm going to phase the wall of fame out. I outright adore the people who support me, this will never change. I'm just trying to optimize videos to make for a nicer viewing experience for everyone, my supporters included. :) Honestly, I'm winging it as I move on. Trying to itteratively improve with each video. Might bring it back in the future if people want the wall of fame back. 🥰
Nope. Can't support this degeneracy. Non-integer scaling is one thing. Some light shaders can help with that. But nothing can salvage a picture that's been defaced and mutilated into a non-native aspect ratio.
Do me a favor and (if you like what I do), like and subscribe, my beautiful creatures. ❤

One thing nice about these "little" channels, you get a proper release review. So we get a review of what we will actually be buying.

I got the DMG CubeXX. So far I'm really enjoying it, especially with Knulli. MuOS is coming along nicely also.
Great review as always, good sir!
Is it possible to record gameplay via Retroarch in Knulli? The most Budget-Handhelds cant. I Wish they could.
Thanks mate! Liked and subscribed!

VladNerd will be a Stretcher forever. Greetings from a Integer Scaler 😅

@@VladNerd Haha best answer. Yes. Some Day we will create Integer Stretching = Peace forever 😂

I loved this video and the duck story. 😂

I should have one in my hands in the next couple of weeks. I'm really positive about it however. We'll see once I get it in my hands. :)
O man another handheld with the same chip set i want !
I like very much the look of the stock OS with this new blue theme, you know if it is possible to apply it on the RG35XX-SP? Thanks!
My r36s is white. I usually prefer black or see through. I like the white to be honest.

When I was old man I had duck fried rice, it was delicious. I am one of those weirdoes who prefers Android OS.
There's nothing like a perfectly functional duck. 👏
Rgcubexx or 40xx h? Which is better?
Ask yourself what you praise more. ergonomics (CubeXX) or a wider screen (40XXH).
Can you install knulli on this device? And can you do a video how to do that ?
I'm planning to do a whole Knulli video in the near future. :)
@ sounds good 👍 my cube is arriving from china about a week from now so would be nice to have some knulli tutorial 😀

Digital triggers > analog triggers for these retro handhelds. I will die on this hill
I will go for the black , but really wanted an ORANGE one #TeamDweeb 🧡

LOL that duck story 😂
I wish it weren't true. 😆
I use integer scaling...and I'm religious 😂
This is a better Powkiddy RGB30.
The "integer scaling religious people" Ohmyy...
when we will se the next gen of the h700, i want something a little more powerful then the PSP was but in the same price range of the h700...
Honestly, your guess is as good as mine. I don't have any inside info on this. Anbernic doesn't particularly like me. 😄
I wouldn't bet, but guess they should start to tease the next gen of chipsets at some moment near the chinese new year, cause i can't see any new format for the them to release another XX, unless they come up with a "50/55/60XX" or a "TVXX" (or whatever they would call something in the kinds of a game stick/box with based on chip).
duck go quack
Too bad you can't install Duckstation on it.

I also scale to fit. The integer scale people start sounding like vegans and crossfit people sometimes. Play what feels best to you, the player.

I also do sock - shoe - sock - shoe when I leave the house instead of sock - sock - shoe - shoe. 😅
Be thankfull. He dont stretch a PSP-Game 😂
well, i always play famicom in 4:3. And only now i know, that it was 8:7 console. so, my mario now a thin man :)
@SeverskiyS I will grant a special exemption for NES and SNES, which natively render at 8:7 but were intended to be displayed on 4:3 CRTs.
Okay but if you say degeneracy you're gonna sound like an incel every time
