wonderful episode! there would be so many things to say that I wouldn't be able to express just by writing... the challenge itself, the way it was structured, was beautiful, it gripped me more than any other episode of this season, but I'm seriously starting to think about who whether it's really Koenji, that calculation done well with my eyes closed, which was the most difficult, shook me a lot. I got very angry at the fact that Tsukishiro had a hand in things he shouldn't have, I'm happy with Sakayanagi's loyalty towards Ayanokoij who, let's say, he almost "admitted" (in fact he later lost the chess game) that if Tsukichiro hadn't interfered, Ayanokoji would have won, after all even the backstory is beautiful but after all that Tsukichiro bothers me too much I swear I just can't watch him because of how bad he is towards Ayanokoij. this end of the season is incredible!
One thing I'll say - the LN's do a better job [through-out] at telling you about Class C. For many Volumes you knew who that character was who was good at archery, and also how good Sudo actually is at basketball. In the LN he pretty much solo wins the match. Also edit: Arisu was not part of the actual white room, just observed with her Dad some times. Ayanokoji did not know who was observing him or who Arisu was before she tells him at the high-school. From what I remember Ayanokoji also tells Arisu she was the best person he has ever faced in Chess.

The studio did not focus on their movements in the game greatly because it is not the goal that the observer should focus on, but rather it should only focus on the reactions of the two and the ways they deal with each movement.
the forged move gxf3 is a move that leads into forced checkmate, that's why ayanokoji let time end (confused that that move was chosen too, as he didn't enter it) while moving the queen to g5 leads to a queen trade and ayanokoji is up material (a rook for a pawn). I believe anyone could win in that position (although time would be tight and i don't think there was any increment).
For anyone that doesn't play chess Sakayanagi sacrificed her Queen against Ayanokoji . If you take the Queen then it leads to forced checkmate like we saw Ayanokoji could have avoided it of course, but Mr. "Headmaster" strikes again 😅
It still amazes me, after 3 seasons, that so many reactors expect Koenji to pull through for anything and are then disappointed when he doesn't. The best mindset when it comes to Koenji is the opposite, that he will always let you down, so in the rare moments he comes through it's a nice surprise.

The real reason for his loss, I do not think that he was a fair player. There is something greater than just a superficial reason like this for Kiyotaka, and you will see it in the coming events.
Koji is a genius but not In the way we think,he wasn’t born with crazy intelligence,he wasn’t the best in the white room from the get go, he was mediocre, and always in the low ranks, but what set him apart from the rest was his ability to learn from his mistakes and adapt, over Time he became the best because he has no limitations on how much he can grow, and at that point the white room couldn’t teach him anything else, he was outperforming the teachers there, giving him the title “The Masterpiece”.
