This statement really spoke to me: “Responsibility and Power are not the same thing. Teachers have a responsibility to proclaim the truth. They do not have the power to proclaim the truth, to tell you what is true. Just a responsibility to echo what is true and get it across in a way that people can understand it.” Thank you, Mike for your ministry!!
1] _"Teachers have a responsibility to proclaim the truth"_ . True. 2] _"They do not have the power to proclaim the truth, to tell you what is true."_ Not necessarily true. It really depends from *_whom_* the teachers got their "power" from. Here's why: _"Whoever listens to _*_you_*_ listens to Me; whoever rejects _*_you_*_ rejects Me; and whoever rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me." Luke 10:16_ See, Christ took it *_personally_* if listeners scoff at those He sent to teach. 3] _"Just a responsibility to echo what is true and get it across"_ How do you know *_with certainty_* a particular teacher/pastor is echoing what is true? This is the *elephant-in-the-room question* you must ask before you accept or reject the preaching of any pastor/teacher. 4] What or who then is our go-to source for the *_fullness_* of the truth ? Answer: The *_Bride_* (of the divine Bridegroom). Yes the Bride. For Jesus didn't say to His apostles: _"Look, here's the Bible...look it up under the FAQ section if you have queries, ok? "_ No. He left you and I _His Bride_ - the Church (starting with the apostles as its core). A *_teaching_* Bride. She will echo the truths of her Lover, the divine Bridegroom. She is who we listen to. She is ever ancient, ever new. And why not listen to Mike Winger? Because while he may echo some truths from time to time, however he also echoes untruths from time to time. Untruths he picked from others. Untruths you are not aware of. Peace
@@econs999 The problem with that is that it assumes the modern Catholic church to be equivalent to the apostles, which is exactly what the Pharisees did in equivocating themselves with Moses.
In my early 20's I began to seriously learn about the Roman Catholic Church. I was raised RCC and was taught that she was the One True Holy Church but I couldn't back that up in defense of Her. For weeks I sought God's guidance. I went into the Encyclopedias to read about the Reformation. Bought an Adult Catholic Catechism, and read the Bible side by side the Catechism. The Holy Spirit opened my eyes and I saw how much the Church contradicted the Bible. Deep down I heard the question, "Who do you believe, God or man?" Also I had the Revelation that when I died, I would die alone and face God alone. There would not be anyone there to defend my decision but I alone. I chose God. I have praised and thanked him every day since then for opening my eyes and saving a sinner such as I.
Karol I hear you! It cost me greatly since my family (parents) are hardcore Catholic. They’re married to the church and totally believe what they’ve been told and taught. I’m the black sheep that causes division... the wayward child! If only I applied myself or spoke to the right people. Ummm 👌
Why are so many individuals in the comments misappropriating what Mike said? People saying that he is bashing or hating on Catholics are in the wrong, either misidentifying or purposefully misleading people to believe that he is antagonizing other groups. He is leading a discussion into what is wrong or what could be wrong with other sects of Christianity. We are better people than that, we are Christians. We need to be more Christlike in our attitudes towards one another. It makes me question whether people are for Jesus or an organization.
I am a 67 year-old Catholic and I really like your presentation. In the many years of being Catholic I must admit I have been jaded many times by fellow Catholics who cannot admit we (RCC) are not the "cat's meow". I find myself increasingly listening to people like you who, IMO, represent the truth a lot more than what I hear at church. Mike, can you do me a favor? Even though I have no severe issue with the Eucharist, I quite often wonder why the RCC has put all its marbles into the Eucharist. This is where my main disappointment in the RCC resides. How in the heck did the Gospel get displaced by the Liturgy? I am very aware that the ancient, early Church had Liturgy; but how did it evolve from teaching about Jesus and remembering Jesus with Communion to a ritual that mainly revolves around the Host? In a strange sort of way, Communion has become more important than the Gospel; and it is obvious to me that it has been that way for a very, very long time (centuries). So my basic question is: When did Communion become the center of a person's faith in the RCC instead of being the center (or the conclusion) of their worship? To me their is a distinct difference. When I present this issue to other RC, I am most often shutdown. All I want is to know the truth and it is not easy to find a person who is willing to be objective.
Holding the very presence of Christ in your hands... literally holding God... that is one of the greatest things we could possibility have. That being said, there is more to the mass than just the Eucharist. You hear the old testament, new testament, homily, etc. Perhaps a good read is from Scott Hahn... the title is something like "Mass is Heaven on Earth" Not all Mike is saying I would say is accurate, although well spoken. I actually came here to help solidify my faith in the Church. I wanted to find out what others actually say about us. But I think alot of people dont necessarily understand Catholicism as a whole... because alot of what is said I dont find that in my personal experience. Good luck friend!
Mike, if you plan on giving a teaching on this subject, I strongly suggest that you learn, in depth, what the Catholic Church teaches about this, and not rely solely on protestant sources.
God bless you, sir. All of the answers will be in God's Word. Don't look to man made writings for answers - only look to the inspired Word of God. Prayers for you.
50:10 “Our will dictates what we believe more than the evidence”-Pastor Winger In speaking to many people, this is so true, even if they don’t realize it’s the case. Thank you! March on...
Sure... I was agreeing with you, writing my comment quickly. Perhaps our "will" is established by developed and long-held preconceptions. (?) "Stubbornness" often causes us not to give them up.... Solution: "Be teachable!"
@@eswn1816 Can you rewrite that comment so it makes sense? Maybe use complete sentences? You didn’t write complete thoughts and I’m wanting to respond appropriately and to do that I want to understand your point.
Listening again for probably the third time. The "seat of Moses" stood out to me - Moses was a mediator between God and man. The RCC believes they act in the same manner. You have to attend mass, receive the Eucharist, confession to a priest, etc. It creates a false dependency on "the Church," for salvation; and negates Jesus as the only mediator between God and man (1 Tim 2:5).
That's one of my issues with catholicism. I understand confessing sins to a brethren in Christ, but the catholic confession feels like going to a middle man to tell me how I can earn my salvation back.
@@chazzitz-wh4ly Catholics believe that Jesus Christ gave his apostles the authority to forgive sins. This is particularly based on passages such as John 20:21-23, where Jesus says to his apostles, “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” This authority is believed to have been passed down through apostolic succession to the bishops and priests of the Chirch. The practice of confessing sins to a priest has been part of the Church’s tradition since the early centuries of Christianity. The writings of the Church Fathers, such as St. Augustine and St. John Chrysostom, indicate that confession to a priest was a common practice in the early Church. Confessing to a priest can help individuals confront their sins more concretely and receive spiritual guidance. The priest can offer counsel and advice on how to overcome sin and grow in virtue. Sin is seen not only as an offense against God but also as an offense against the Church community. Confessing to a priest, who represents the church community, helps to restore the penitent’s relationship with the entire community of believers.
I'm only half way through but gotta pause for a bit. I am having such a great Bible study with you Pastor. I love all your videos (especially defending the faith) but this is my 1st time sitting and doing a Bible study and I'm taking so many notes because I wasn't ready for so much awesome history and meat! I thank God for his faithfulness and for you Pastor, for your diligence and ability to teach. All Glory to God.
Thank you for this video, I've only recently discovered your channel but your zeal and courage to preach God's Word is inspiring and truly blessed. I clicked on this video because I am a born-again Christian who grew up in the Roman Catholic church from the Philippines, believing it was the correct and only way to God. I'm learning more and more that this is not the case and I pray for more discernment and for my family to also see that truth and salvation is found in faith alone, in Jesus alone, through grace alone. Thank you again, brother! May God bless you, your channel and your ministry.
Hey Mike Winger I see a lot of negative comments, it’s not surprising to me it’s mostly Catholics but I am surprised by the venom. You have always shown grace and respect when addressing ideas or doctrine of other religions and it’s what I appreciate so much about you. Don’t let the negative comments get you down, we need your voice on our search for truth. To test everything by the light of scripture regardless of who we want to support or what doctrine we think is correct. Love you brother and I will be praying for you May God bless your voice and keep you in strength for his Kingdom. ❤️
Luke 11:39-40 But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the platter; but inside of you, you are full of robbery and wickedness. You foolish ones, did not He who made the outside make the inside also? Do you consider this venomous too? You're not on the side of the Truth if you discard the well meaning corrections of errors by concerned Catholics. It's negative only if you will it irregardless of the evidence. I pity you.
@Christian If you haven't been paying attention to what Mike Winger said about will and evidence. He said our will dictates what we believe in irregardless of the evidence. The evidence are a plenty in the Bible if you read it in the light of proper teaching authority according to Apostolic traditions and Authority. But you choose to discard it at the price of your salvation. By the way what evidence do you have to say that the Holy Roman Catholic Church founded by the Lord Jesus Christ to be false? Again, like Mike Winger said, None! What a terrible shame!
Mike, I really do appreciate your teaching. I've listened to several of your videos over the last perhaps one year. There are many aspects of what I like about the way you present the gospel: one is I think you try to be honest, sincere, very thoughtful, studied and knowledgeable, fair-minded, straightforward clear minded, and I simply find that you speak in a clear and winsome way that strikes a balance that I'm very comfortable with as being well said. Well enough of my attempt to describe some of the things I like about your teaching, but thank you for serving the Lord, and for you, I say -.PRAISE THE LORD.
Thank you so much for this teaching. I have been especially guilty of letting triggered unbelief get under my skin, which only diminishes my effectiveness as a witness. Jesus deserves better! God has been leading me into greater wisdom and being more "clever" in my responses. So glad I discovered your cache of teaching videos. So much great stuff there. You have a very special calling on you Mike.
Thanks for this! The simple 'responding with a question' is something I've been taught for awhile, but more examples of how to use it are always helpful, especially when they're questions I've not thought to use.
Years ago when I first came out of the Catholic Church I asked the priest if he really believed in novenas. He said not really. I asked, then why do you do them? He said can you imagine what the people would do to me if I told them I didn’t believe in novenas!
A novena is just a set of prayers you say. It's not something you "believe in?" Unless he meant the Lord didn't ever answer them which would be equivalent to saying He never answered prayer. No wonder the priest didn't want people to know :)
@@livewireOrourke A priest who believes God doesn't answer prayers should have the intellectual honesty to step down because he's not helping himself or anyone else by lying to everyone. That being said, I honestly suspect he believes prayers (including novenas) can be answered. What he "didn't believe" was likely the superstitious aspect people attach to novenas where "if you do this for 9 days, God will be forced to do what you say" which he is totally right to reject. And then d Rome, who is referencing an event from years ago about an organization they have no loyalty to has innocently oversimplified the priest's response.
A novena is just intentional prayers for nine days, usually with particular focus (novena being nothing more than the Latin word for the number nine). Someone decided to do nine days of intentional prayer in homage to the apostles praying for nine days after Christ ascended until the day of Pentecost. It's no different than when Evangelicals did that whole Prayer of Jabez thing. How is this supposed to own the Catholics? Seriously, just become Lutheran or Anglican or some form of intelligent Protestant that have smarter sounding arguments against Rome.
Thank you so very much for your commitment to serve God ... I thank God for all the blessings of the knowledge and understanding that God has allowed me me to gain through your thorough study and guidance... So appreciate your labor some time to prepare and share with such humility and love for God and HIS WORD... I pray that you continue to grow in strength physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and that God's perfect will in ministry... I listened to the entire Mark series... As well as, binged on 20 questions... Thank you so much for your ministry, I am homebound and I miss study of scripture with others ... And will continue to look forward to all RUclips post... Thank you again for your personal honesty in your own struggles I found much peace in the episode of healing, prayer, forgiveness, etc...
thank you so much for the teaching. After so many years of confusion, doubts about the religion teaching that so many things did not make any sense to me in my life, I am finally at peace with God "things". I feel liberated. God bless you.
Thank you for the lessons. I appreciate the time and energy you put in, and because you do, I glean so much from the study! You stretch me, Mike! You have helped me to see that this life is all about God and not about me. As long as we live in obedience, as long as we glorify God and obey Him, everything and everyone in our path will be blessed. As long as our minds are on God, and we seek his wisdom, we don’t have time to serve out desires (won’t have time to think on such things), but we want to be of help to others. I appreciate that about you, Mike!
God bless you Pastor Mike. I'm always so blessed watching your videos. God has truly raised you up as a pastor and teacher in the body of Christ. When you see a true Shepherd and teacher you can recognize them. They have a heart that is truly for the good of the body of Christ. I know our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ would be proud. Keep championing the truth. It'll be worth it in the end
Thank you for giving your opinions in regards to the RCC as you study out from biblical and historical. Got my popcorn and thinker ready to discern. Married into Catholicism as an adult, but lacking knowledge of the Bible or religions in general. Fully adopted the faith and doctrine and raised my children catholic in a catechism and pope adhering catholic private school. Then a lot of stuff went off the rails which made me step back and look at the teachings in light of scripture and my heart sunk and my gut hurt until I could reconcile. It’s been five years of seeking it out, which is how I found your channel. The catechism is taught inside out and upside down but the Bible gets sidelined and that is so obvious now. It wasn’t then. It was studying cults to understand “other religions” vs Catholicism that I was like uh oh, wait... this group running this school fits the definition of a cult. And I couldn’t unsee it. So then I had to step back and consider why the Catholic Church would allow this cult to be a valid commission in its ranks. It just all went downhill from there. Sigh. I do appreciate Mike’s teaching on the subject with respect vs many who simply catholic bash and cry “Whore” or antichrist. Truly, these comments would encourage the Catholic to run back to what they believe is safe ground.
Yup. I agree, still have staunch RCC family. Wisdom of God is really needed to approach them, not just denouncing (like I did in the beginning). As they say there is none virulently anti catholic like an ex-cath
There are so many things that you could look at to start with. For instance Peter being the first pope when the men bow down to Peter he told them to get up as he was only a man and yet the Pope's nowadays receive worship. The worship of Mary and calling her sinless. She is most definitely blessed among women Messiah but she needed the blood of her son just as much as anyone. When the woman cried out in the crowd blessed is the womb that
blessed is the womb that bear the and the paps which thou has sucked he said no rather blessed is they that do the will of my father. When Mary and her sons came to carry him off because they thought he was crazy he rejected that and said those who do the will of my father are my mother and my sisters and my brothers. The fact that he said call no man father for you have one authority Father in heaven and yet they call every priest father. The fact that Paul says that we have one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus and yet they say you have to go through them to get to marry to get to Jesus to get to God. Look back at Constantine and Esubius letters and you see that they rejected anything that was Jewish and from Paul and brought their own version of how to worship God in period which included Babylonian, and Mithra teachings and practices. I could go on with a lot more the point is search God out with all of your heart and read the Bible only. I have many letters on file from people starting in the 14th century all the way up until 1947 which will tell you that the pope has the right to change the laws and the practices of the Bible because he has complete authority over the scriptures. This is no different than the rabbinical teaching of Takanot's and ma'aseh of the rabbis. they gave you their self complete authority over the scriptures which is exactly what Yeshua was teaching when he said you have a fine way of rejecting the Commandments of God to follow the traditions of men. It's where Catholicism comes from. A high priest of the temple, a pope. The Cohenim or priests of the temple, the archbishops of the vatican. The levite or common teachers, the fathers and priests of catholicism. When you add all of these things up you begin to realize that the New Testament Catholicism is based in the same man-made and man given authority as the rabbis. Go back and read matthew, mark, Luke and John like it was the first time you've ever read them. Ask God to open your heart to see the truth as you desire His truth. God will show you my friend. Take it from me. Regardless of those who scream Antichrist what you need to do for you and your family is seek God with all of your heart and lean not to your own understanding. Read the word carefully, slowly and God will give you a lamp to your feet and a light to your path. I hope you find the truth and may God direct your steps.
Brother! I greatly appreciate the godly wisdom you display when you discuss difficult topics. Thankful to God for your partnership in the gospel. Your consideration of others and your conviction to speak to truth in love with gentleness, grace and compassion, and firmness in the truth of God’s word is a great example of Christ-like character. Your teachings are a great encouragement to me. Your ministry is a blessing. Praise God for all the good things he’s doing in your life and through you. Thank you for your faithfulness brother

Why only listen to someone from the side you already believe? All you are doing is engaging in confirmation bias. Take a listen to some Catholic guys like Trent Horn, Steve Ray, and Jimmy Akin. Protestants ALWAYS misrepresent the Catholic position. Believe me, I was raised Protestant all my life.
Mike, Mormonism does this too I believe. They try to make some contrived connection between their "priesthood" and John the Baptist having a connection to the Temple Priesthood through his father Zachariah.
I was roman catholic and got saved just before my 21st birthday I went to roman catholic schools, was baptized as a baby then confession, holy communion, and confirmation in Durban Emanual Cathedral by Archbishop Hurley When I read the word around the Mary nonsense I accepted Jesus Christ as my Saviour in my dorm room at Post office training Colledge where I was training to be a technician helped by a brother in christ and left the Roman Catholic church when I could no longer reconcile this dogma with Scripture now I am 71
The title of your podcast made me think of the tale of the Grand Inquisitor fromThe Brothers Karamazov by Fydor Dostoevsky, The Inquisition imprisoned Christ when he returns in the 16th century. The inquisitor states that the Church no longer needs him and lectures him on not accepting the offer of the Devil when heI was tempting him in the desert. It was told by the character Ivan from the novel who was a humanist, interestingly Christ never speaks, although being the interrogated it is the inquisitor who is defending himself and the church as if they were the ones on trial.
If anyone's a literature fan, there's a really awesome scene in the Brothers Karamazov where one of the characters imagines a scenario in which Jesus came again, but the Catholic Church was in power.
The Russians are Russian Orthodox and in those days they were literally teaching that the Catholic Church was the anti-Christ. They're not fans, even today. Nonetheless, all the objections that Mike raises here would apply equally to the Russian Orthodox, so maybe citing Dostoevsky is not totally relevant.
Something a little unrelated, the phrase "separation of church and state" in context was talking about keeping government FROM controlling the church. Not the other way around. So your church can be involved heavily in politics. Have a good day!!!
It's the other way around actually. For example, in France, during the middle age, the church was at the top of the hierarchy, then the king and aristocrats and finally the people. The church was the authority giving power to the king. If a king was not backed up by the pope, he will not be recognized as king. The church has more power than the government. It was the government actually. That's the reason, today, France separated the church and the state.
Roman paganism = Constantine put everyone together for control! He was an Emperor! Calling paganism by some Biblical names does not make them Yeshua Jesus following! Mike Winger, you have a loving way of sharing Biblical truths! ❤!
Have you ever heard of the Arian crisis? A few decades after Constantine, virtually all kings in Christendom were denying Christ's divinity, and I can tell you that the real church did not give in to their authority. Athanasius and other bishops defended the church by God's grace. Moreover, if Constantine really ruined the church, then he was at least so kind to give us our current idea of the Trinity. And he provided stability in which the church formulated its core confessions and doctrines, which are so crucial that Protestants, Catholics, and Orthodox still profess the Nicene creed.

Lon Spector God is definitely logical and Christianity is rational. You really shouldn’t go around telling lost people things like that. Using faith as a cop out to answer legitimate questions gives us a bad reputation. Faith is trust not a blind reasonless belief. My faith is my trust in God.
Can concur. I had a "discussion" about symbolic communion once with a bunch of Catholics, and one of them actually asked at one point, "by what authority do you claim all this?" I'd been referring to nothing but logic and the scriptures as explained by the Holy Spirit, and I quoted Jesus from these verses, asking the same question. This guy answered exactly as the sanhedrin. smh...
Well said, Mike Winger! Also, in 1 Timothy chapter four, Paul seems to have Rome in mind regarding ... 1) Celibacy in the so-called priesthood (verse three), 2) Abstinence from meat on Fridays (verse three), 3) Adherence to fanciful, fictional stories about Jesus’ childhood & Mary’s supposed “immaculate conception” (verse seven), & 4) The medieval Catholic ban on “laity” reading the Bible (verse thirteen).
Actually we never banned the laity from reading the bible The bible was hard to make hence the reason why the priest were only allowed to have the bible
The popes certainly _did_ ban non-clergy from reading the Bible, which is why Rome harshly persecuted everyone who translated the Bible from Latin into the common languages.
“If those who guide you say: Look, the Kingdom is in the sky! Then the birds are closer than you. If they say: Look, it is in the sea! Then the fish already know it. The Kingdom is inside you, and it is outside you. When you know yourself, then you will be known, and you will know that you are the child of the Living Father; but if you do not know yourself, you will live in vain and you will be vanity.” - Yeshua
If you can read the gospels, and conclude that what is needed is a tiny cabal of people obsessed with their own authority to exclusively interpret scripture and label anyone that disagrees with them as cursed by God, who stand atop a huge mountain of thousands of years worth of extrabiblical traditions instead of simply allowing God to speak for himself and imitating Christ.... well, *somebody* definitely didn't understand the scripture. It's just not who you think.
@@dananderson6697 Thank you. I study scripture regularly and am always learning more. The CC teaches that tradition is equal to scripture, which scripture specifically says the opposite of. Jesus Christ said it, and Paul taught it. So we have God’s word telling us not to add to scripture, and Christ repeatedly rebukes the Pharisees for relying on tradition over scripture. Yet that’s what the RCC does. It changes with the times, thus the many councils. Many Catholics are technically “anathema” if they followed the actual teachings of the RCC. But so many either don’t read the Bible, or read it with a commentary that interprets it with confirmation bias. Personally, I found reading it myself to be the most helpful way of understanding. God has made His word accessible to us. After I read it once, I dug deep (still do) and study many teachings from various viewpoints. I concluded I’m just a Christian. No denomination. Just follow the Bible. It’s important to understand and learn from those more knowledgeable than us, but seek first wisdom and discernment from the Lord.
@tracykarol That's wonderful! I taught Bible classes at a nondenominational Christian high school for years, and I would agree with you, I think: Catholic students and their families ran a wide gamut of belief, and a great many of them truly did follow Jesus. But I very firmly believe they did so because they were not terribly good Catholics. The Catholic tradition has become a bloated mess of obviously unbiblical regulations and stipulations and "interpretations" which are neither necessary nor useful in building better disciples of Jesus, to the point where, as Christ says to the Pharisees in Mark 7, their tradition keeps people from following the word of God. I have no trouble believing individual Catholics actually know, follow, and put their faith in Christ Jesus' saving grace on the cross, but they do so *despite* the Catholic church, not because of it, and that's the real trouble.
Agreed. As a former Catholic , I was comparing them to the Pharisees and the Judaizers that influenced Peter. I even wondered why they chose Peter as their Pope.
@@EnHacore1 I don't believe mike needs to be running around refuting every claim against him. It is more beneficial to have Mike teaching scripture rather than arguing with some heretic/false teacher etc.
Not belonging to the Catholic church it is easier to see where Catholicism is deviating from the scriptures. Then it makes me think, belonging to a protestant church my whole life, where are we deviating from the scriptures?...Hmmm...because you know we are but we just can't see it right?
@ManAboutTown No. I just saw at my visit of Trent Horns channel that most of his videos are rebuttals of protestants. Some are very fast reactions, wich is why "3...2...1..." was a kind of joke. The worst kind of it seems because I have to explain it in detail ^^
I don't know if this is a great way to say this, but here goes: I think we should give the Catholic Church some credit. If it weren't for some of those "monastery monks" handwriting Bibles during the Dark Ages, we probably wouldn't have Bibles today. They probably would have been torn apart by the unlearned masses who would use them for TP. Also, Jerome played a part in translating the Bible from Hebrew and Greek into Latin. Hardly anybody in those days could read Hebrew and Greek and at least the Priests could (supposedly) read Latin. I..am NOT a practicing Catholic...
Mike, thank you for your kind spirit. Because of your demeanor I feel comfortable referring people to your channel as a resource for learning about the Bible.
Mike says that the Eastern Churches split with Rome because they said "you're making stuff up, we're out of here." Actually, most of what Mike thinks Rome made up is also believed by the Eastern Churches. And they also claim Apostolic authority to teach and define doctrine. Specifically they derive this authority from acting in ecumenical councils of the whole Church, and they felt Rome was acting unilaterally in the matter of adding the filioque clause (the Holy Spirit proceeds from the father *and the son*) to the Nicene Creed. That was the cause of the split. Incredibly ironically, Protestants use the version of the Nicene Creed that contains this clause which Rome "made up."
@@veritasmuy2407 If the Last Supper was a Passover meal, the bread was unleavened. However, that is not at all what Mike Winger is talking about. He's talking about beliefs in Mary, beliefs in the Real Presence, beliefs in seven sacraments, and other beliefs that he rejects as non-biblical.
@Mike Rutkowski The question does God love or hate sinners can be a tricky one. God loves/hates sinners is probably the most biblical way to put it. What does He love about sinners? Well, not their lifestyle or their ways, as said in scripture (Psalm 5:5, 11:5) . But why die for them (Romans 5:6)? Because He loves them in this way: though they don’t deserve His mercy, He offers it to those who will repent and believe the gospel (John 3:16). He gives them a chance, though they don’t deserve it. That’s some amazing love! We can’t say God doesn’t love sinners, but we can’t say God loves sinners’ ways. If we say God hates them, this is true in the sense of who and what they are, but He loves them enough to die for them, regardless. I think this shows God’s majesty the best. He delights in showing mercy (Micah 7:18). He’d rather someone live than die (Ezekiel 33:11).
@@thegreatchug Don't let him twist you all up. The "it's not in the Bible" argument is extremely weak. The word trinity isn't there either... we still understand there is God the father, God the son and God the Holy Ghost lol, people just like to mince words to fit their preconceived notions and worse yet, some are outright deceivers. Mike is an unsettled mind, unsteady in all his ways. He's calling people names he's insulting their intellect and inflating his own. His fruit is obvious to us who know what to look for. God came to call sinners to repentance and very clearly doesn't hate them, or would not have come in the flesh, to die as a propitiation for their sins.
Hi Pastor Mike, I sent a message to you on Facebook. My name is Renz and I'm from the Philippines. May I know what commentary do you recommend that can help me with proper exposition of the Bible? Thank you. Blessings!
The problem I have with the catholic clergy is that they can hide behind their collar rather than confront sin. I'm supposed to confess to them but there's no reciprocity. How many times I've been told the goodness or badness of the priest doesn't matter at mass. With that idea a really bad man can be guiding his flock. A pastor that preaches has a hard time hiding his real heart in the long run. a smooth priest can easily hide behind the mass for a very long time.
@Pond3r Thiz You: the Bible teaches that leaders of the church should lead by example and not be hypocrites. Me: Which I can see that you are about to do. You: So this guy points out a serious problem in the Catholic Church (which has existed since the RCCs foundation) Me: Who put you in charge of judging the clergy of a whole church? That smacks of outright arrogance. It sure is a lack of charity. Take out the beam in your own eye first. You are in no position to begin to even judge. You: you come up with an analogy that doesn’t appeal to scripture or logic? Me: All of the apostles were sinners. Did Jesus wait until he had holy saints or did he use the sinners he had to work with to spread his message across the globe? There is your Scripture and there is your logic. You: A doctor can not help anyone if he is a fraud and his medical license is a forgery. Me: But a chain smoking obese doctor to advise you not to smoke or eat excessively knowing the medical implications of each. Good advice and leadership depends on knowledge and the willingness to help others. Following a healthy and fit doctor is easier but not essential to good health advice. You: This is the case for many leaders in the Catholic Church Me: You have more agenda than knowledge. You have more judgment than love.
I think you misunderstand this. Even the sacramental Protestants (eg, the Anglicans) have the idea that the sacrament is not invalid because the minister of the sacrament turns out to be a bad person. If a minister marries two Protestants, and it turns out the minister is a serial killer, are the couple not then married? This applies only to the administration of the sacraments -- in this case specifically the Eucharist -- and has nothing to do with teaching or preaching.
@@remycallie I don't judge people by what I think they believe and have faith in. I reacted to what they say and do. Wickedness does not need my sinful support.
@@gimeoden8309 Absolutely. But if the value of the sacraments were dependent on the sinlessness of the person who conveys them, they wouldn't have any value at all because no one is sinless.
I think the greatest condemnation of the RCC is much more fundamental than this. I recently started reading the Bible aloud with my wife, each night. She was raised Catholic, went to Mass every week. I started reading Genesis and she goes “this doesn’t sound like the Catholic Bible, are you sure they’re the same?!” And I’ve had that issue with other Catholics. They don’t know the Bible outside of the Catholic proof texts selected for specific reasons in various contexts. That’s not true of all Catholics, to be sure, but the RCC is clearly letting the laity down if this is what they are doing with their supposed apostolic authority.
There is a different reading from the Old Testament, the Psalms, the Epistles, and the Gospels (so four separate Bible readings) at every Sunday Mass through a three-year cycle. (Meaning, the readings don't repeat themselves for three years.) If she went to Mass every week, she heard a ton of scripture. And the homily (which is not a sermon, which could theoretically be on any topic) must tie to the theme of the readings. If your wife didn't get any of it, maybe she wasn't paying any attention. And in churches that have the staff to do it, little kids who haven't yet made their First Communion leave a few minutes after the service starts and go to a little kiddie class known as "Children's Liturgy of the Word" where the same Gospel reading is presented in a children's version.
"Observe the position of the man of sin [2 Thess. 2:4]. Notice the word _kaqisai, "sitteth,"_ and connect with it _kaqedra,_ a seat, a word which occurs three times in the New Testament. It is used twice with reference to the seats in the temple of those who sold doves, who turned the house of God into a house of merchandise and den of thieves; and once in the sentence, _"the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat."_ From _kaqedra_ comes _"cathedral,"_ the _"bishop's seat,"_ and also the expression _ex cathedra,_ or from his seat, officially. There, in that exalted cathedral position, and claiming to represent God, the man of sin was to act and abide as the pretended vicar, but real antagonist, of Christ, undermining His authority, abolishing His laws, and oppressing His people." _(H. Grattan Guinness, "Romanism and the Reformation", pp. 92-93. Toronto: S.R. Briggs, 1887.)_ Blessings..
Do you have a page of questions to questions? I loved your responses. A top 100 questions to common questions would be fantastic. I am blessed by your teaching and thank you for your ministry.
His argument about Christ undercutting the authority of the Sanhedrin is a fallacy. Christ 1) doesn’t say they [Sanhedrin] don’t have legitimate authority, and 2) does not say that authority cannot come from heaven through men (like the baptism of John which He references). Pointing out Jewish structural similarities with the structure of the “new Israel,” the Catholic Church, is exactly what you would expect in the Kingdom of God. The Old Covenant has been fulfilled, now we live under the New Covenant, the Kingdom of God on earth which is the Catholic Church. Of course there are corrupt, hypocritical sinners who have held high positions and cause scandal. Eleven apostles abandoned Jesus when he was on the cross - one never came back. Bless you Mike, may God be with you and guide you to the fullness of truth in the Catholic Church.
@@Andromedon777 but even Saint Paul says to the Corinthians, “follow me as I follow Christ.” The Scriptures charge us to follow the example of our brothers and sisters in Christ. Sola Scriptura itself is a doctrine of man first proposed in the 16th century, do you follow that?

This question has already been answered in the Bible: 2Th 2:8 KJV And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
I can't help but point out the irony and hypocrisy of a Christian casting doubt on the claims of other religions concerning the existence of supposed "oral traditions" that they point to in order to try to substantiate and validate their beliefs. On a completely separate note: If you're in close proximity of the Pope, and at some point you sneeze, and he hears you and politely says "Bless You", should make much of that? Should you tell everyone that you were "blessed" by the Pope?
Mike, you are much more knowledgeable about scripture then I am! Thank you so much for the good that comes out of your ministry. However, as a Catholic, I (unsurprisingly) think you have your negative conclusions incorrect. The Lord did care about the Chair of Moses, right? When He said "listen to them because they sit on this chair," you're right, He was saying the Sanhedrin has a responsibility to teach Truth. But He was still saying the Apostles had a responsibility to listen to them. You even say "even if true" it doesn't matter because you feel the Catholics are wrong about how they view their responsibility (note: any bishop or priest I have ever heard talk about this, treats it as a serious responsibility and don't believe they have power to make up new things) but doesn't that betray your own bias? Does it really matter if the Sanhedrin misunderstand the purpose of their authority? The Lord still told His disciples to follow them, knowing that they were wrong in that mindset. You have been commanded to follow the teaching authority of the "modern Sanhedrin" by God, Himself, regardless of whether the bishops in question are perfect (and no one would argue they are). I also like to point out when talking about Church authority that Paul was considered an Apostle (meaning there were more than 12) and Matthias was elected an Apostle after Judas died (meaning they have successors). I think the elders you're referencing were more like priests/pastors, right? That's different from Apostolic succession, which is shown in the examples of Paul and Matthias. One thing that Protestantism really did right is the love of scripture and literacy explosion associated with it. But before Martin Luther, literacy was terribly low. By not having a teaching authority that could be pointed to, the vast amount of pre-Reformation people would have had no assurance that they were in the Truth without a "modern Sanhedrin" like Catholic hierarchy. Even in modernity, you know yourself how much studying and work goes into these videos but you're an associate pastor and this is part of your job. Most people can't devote that amount of time and expect to work jobs and take care of families, etc. How do I discern how what you're saying is true vs. the guy who made the Mirror Bible vs. my local priest? If the Lord establishes a "Peter" figure with the Apostles and gives them the ability to chose legitimate successors to maintain their authority (which Matthias' legitimacy implies that He did) then I can at least have some confidence. It is clear that the Holy Spirit doesn't grant the same wisdom and discernment to everyone because we Christians disagree on so much (I think the best argument against Sola Scriptura is simply the diversity of Christian denominations on important things like Baptism and "once saved, always saved") Finally, I think following the pope and bishops does something that all humans really need and I've heard you talk about before: teach humility. It requires way more humility to say "oh this specific person, Pope Francis, is right about abortion being an evil even though I don't understand it" then "oh this specific person, Mike Winger, made a very compelling case against abortion so I will change my mind on it" (which definitely requires significant humility, don't get me wrong).
@Pond3r Thiz Are you sure you mean all this? One of the prophecies in Matthias explicitly says "let another take his office." That means Judas would have an office to take. He was an apostle and you are literally the first Christian I've ever heard say he wasn't one. The idea of Jesus referring to the location He is standing on immediately after changing Simon's name to "Rock" seems like a very disingenuous interpretation, intended more to denounce the Pope than to understand what Jesus is saying. What you reference in Timothy is "all scripture is useful" which is a far cry from "only scripture can teach." This does not, nor does any other passage, support sola scriptura.
If anyone wants to get better at tactfully speaking to people the way Jesus did and the way Mike said he did at the campus, I recommend reading “Tactics” by Gregory Koukl. He gets in depth on how to ask questions affectively to get answers out of people. It’s a great book!
There was one particular pope who was exhumed from the grave and "put on trial" because he did some weird and wrong things. Papal infallibility deserves an eye-roll when you dig into the details of what each pope did and disagreed with previous pope's...
John 17:21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one-as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. Can't say the same for the 34000 churches, each having their own illegitimate 'popes'
@@eddixxon Jesus regularly confounded the wisdom of men and their expectations, including what the Jews were expecting of a messiah. To imply he meant the magisterium of the Roman Catholic church is to put words in Christ's mouth and to put men between us and God, which is one of the things Jesus regularly rebuked the Pharisees for. Besides, that quote of 34000 denominations story is so pathetically biased that even decent Catholic apologists don't agree with it (and the vast majority of these denominations don't have a papacy either). I will remind you that there was supposed to be one Israel...and for how long did the one people of God in the OT rebel even in their worship of God. Jesus said that we were to worship in "spirit and truth", and he threw down the temple, which was the "One" place where God was present and had ordained worship to be undertaken. Don't cry for oneness under false pretences, we've been shown by God that such an approach only leads into ruin through the evidence history of Israel. @@eddixxon There was no making light of anything, there was debate about what Jesus meant by "One", not putting it aside in any way. It's pretty telling that you use the word "heretic" so brazenly, without stopping to "take the log out of your own eye" first. How about trying to listen and reason before dismissing people with a knee-jerk reaction? Do you just parrot the priest, or do you use the wisdom and discernment that God through the Bible continually reminds us to ask for? My understanding was that Pharisees were also members of the Sanhedrin as part of the 69 general members. Luke 23:50-52 says, "50 Now there was a Council member named Joseph, a good and righteous man, 51 who had not consented to their decision or action. He was from the Judean town of Arimathea, and was waiting for the kingdom of God. 52 He went to Pilate to ask for the body of Jesus."
I have to say, so many lost people today. Catholic or otherwise. People need to stop arguing over which church is right. WE THE PEOPLE are the church. Not a group but as individuals. Follow Jesus and by doing so follow his commandments and then all would be fine. Repent and turn away from sin and love your brother as God loves you. Truly sad times we are in.
My wife.and I were raised roman catholic and came out immediately when we get born again. I sort of majored on the "spine" aspect; but feel that i've lacked a lot in wisdom and grace. Ironically. I've heard a lot of eli yoder's videos; where the way he describes the amish sounds exactly the same way. I've decided that no matter how you dress up dead religion.... it's all the same thing underneath.
The thing that Mike conveniently forgot to mention is that the seat of Peter and traditions of the RCC is different from that of the seat of Moses and their traditions because of reasons.
This statement really spoke to me:
“Responsibility and Power are not the same thing. Teachers have a responsibility to proclaim the truth. They do not have the power to proclaim the truth, to tell you what is true. Just a responsibility to echo what is true and get it across in a way that people can understand it.”
Thank you, Mike for your ministry!!
1] _"Teachers have a responsibility to proclaim the truth"_ .
True.
2] _"They do not have the power to proclaim the truth, to tell you what is true."_
Not necessarily true. It really depends from *_whom_* the teachers got their "power" from. Here's why:
_"Whoever listens to _*_you_*_ listens to Me; whoever rejects _*_you_*_ rejects Me; and whoever rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me." Luke 10:16_
See, Christ took it *_personally_* if listeners scoff at those He sent to teach.
3] _"Just a responsibility to echo what is true and get it across"_
How do you know *_with certainty_* a particular teacher/pastor is echoing what is true? This is the *elephant-in-the-room question* you must ask before you accept or reject the preaching of any pastor/teacher.
4] What or who then is our go-to source for the *_fullness_* of the truth ?
Answer: The *_Bride_* (of the divine Bridegroom).
Yes the Bride. For Jesus didn't say to His apostles: _"Look, here's the Bible...look it up under the FAQ section if you have queries, ok? "_
No.

Your pursuit for truth is admirable. You're in my prayers sir.

Well enough of my attempt to describe some of the things I like about your teaching, but thank you for serving the Lord, and for you, I say -.PRAISE THE LORD.

@@gregorywullaert8618 ....k. So in other words, the priest encouraged people to believe in something that he no longer believed in.
So he was just a Protestant then?
Thank you again for your personal honesty in your own struggles
I found much peace in the episode of healing, prayer, forgiveness, etc...
thank you so much for the teaching.

Keep championing the truth. It'll be worth it in the end
I am also loving this Study through Mark! Thank you so much! Wow don't we learn so much when we slow down and study and ask questions!

Truly, these comments would encourage the Catholic to run back to what they believe is safe ground.
google „a woman rides the beast“.
RCC = kingdom of antichrist
Love your comment
Mike!!! This is so good! Thank you for sharing the story of you in the public school and the question asked by a student. So good!

22:49 Was the "wow moment" for me. Excellent teaching Mike!
Excellent book. Good recommendation.
Yes!! Exactly. Thanks again Pastor. 👍🏼

Teaching truth is like being a GOOD PARENT...
Well said, Mike Winger!
Also, in 1 Timothy chapter four, Paul seems to have Rome in mind regarding
...
1) Celibacy in the so-called priesthood (verse three),
2) Abstinence from meat on Fridays (verse three),
3) Adherence to fanciful, fictional stories about Jesus’ childhood & Mary’s supposed “immaculate conception” (verse seven), &
4) The medieval Catholic ban on “laity” reading the Bible (verse thirteen).
Actually we never banned the laity from reading the bible
The bible was hard to make hence the reason why the priest were only allowed to have the bible
The popes certainly _did_ ban non-clergy from reading the Bible, which is why Rome harshly persecuted everyone who translated the Bible from Latin into the common languages.
A couple of days ago was the anniversary of Tyndale being burned on a stake by Rome. His "crime" was producing an English Bible.
Keep up the amazing work Pastor Mike.

“If those who guide you say: Look, the Kingdom is in the sky! Then the birds are closer than you. If they say: Look, it is in the sea! Then the fish already know it. As a former Catholic, once I read the Bible and actually knew God’s word, I immediately thought how similar Pharisees are to Catholics.
Then you misread the Bible
@@dananderson6697 You stated it perfectly! I agree with you fully. God bless you!
Agreed. As a former Catholic , I was comparing them to the Pharisees and the Judaizers that influenced Peter. I even wondered why they chose Peter as their Pope.

Trent Horn, Satan's favorite Spin Doctor.

Great teaching! Thanks Mike
"Why does Jesus hate gay people?"
"Would you die for someone you hate?"
MIND BLOWN...
@Michael Kevin Millet Exactly!
God hates sin not people, the reason he died on the cross.
John 3:16
Mike Rutkowski so true, that is the God i worshipped too🙏
@Mike Rutkowski The question does God love or hate sinners can be a tricky one.
Thank you. Blessings!
Thank you for this video brother
The problem I have with the catholic clergy is that they can hide behind their collar rather than confront sin. I'm supposed to confess to them but there's no reciprocity. How many times I've been told the goodness or badness of the priest doesn't matter at mass. With that idea a really bad man can be guiding his flock. A pastor that preaches has a hard time hiding his real heart in the long run. a smooth priest can easily hide behind the mass for a very long time.
Do you just go to healthy doctors or do you look for smart doctors who can diagnose disease and properly prescribe a cure?
@Pond3r Thiz
You: the Bible teaches that leaders of the church should lead by example and not be hypocrites.
Me: Which I can see that you are about to do.
You: So this guy points out a serious problem in the Catholic Church (which has existed since the RCCs foundation)
Me: Who put you in charge of judging the clergy of a whole church?
You: This is the case for many leaders in the Catholic Church
Me: You have more agenda than knowledge.
Great video. Thanks, Mike. God bless.
I think the greatest condemnation of the RCC is much more fundamental than this. I recently started reading the Bible aloud with my wife, each night. She was raised Catholic, went to Mass every week.
I started reading Genesis and she goes “this doesn’t sound like the Catholic Bible, are you sure they’re the same?!”
And I’ve had that issue with other Catholics.

"Jesus has been pretty clever." - Mike Winger
Thank you for being solid and speaking the truth.
Never going to happen because we follow Christ, not man. But keep pursuing Christ.
@@kingdomproductions "Follow me as I follow Christ." Well, how do we know he followed Christ? Because we can verify *first* with scripture how Christ lived and commanded us to live. *Then*, with constant testing to see if they line up in action with scripture, we follow those around us as a body, challenging each other in righteousness.
Tradition is not bad, until it contradicts scripture. That's the difference.
@@Andromedon777 I totally agree with you. But the Corinthians at that time didn't have New Testament Scripture to verify how Christ lived and commanded us to live. How were they able to verify Paul's claims?
Really good teaching brotha🙏🏼👊
Thanks for saying that. I believe that God can't judge me and that's why I can't change.
@Pond3r Thiz I was speaking in the past tense. Sorry if that was confusing.
The Sanhedrin also are very similar to the US Supreme Court. The Supreme Court gives its own interpretations which become Law of the US's "sacred text," the Constitution.
Yup and we have seen where that has gotten us. But at least the SCOTUS has some checks and balances to their power.
@@dahelmang Like what lol
@@RealAugustusAutumn not as much as they should have but in theory they don't write the laws they only interpret them. And the other branches choose who is on the court.
This is true. I just hope you're not saying that the Constitution is cut and dry and not open to interpretation and needed revision. Americanism is a cult.
Right but there is a significant difference between interpreting vague man-made laws and the Word of God
Do you believe in the true presents of God in the Bread? I’m Catholic and your videos are good we don’t agree on many things but I can appreciate the things we do agree on and also I see you work hard. Amen and God Bless you. 🙏🏼

Why Seventy(Two) ? Because:

Moses and the priestly hierarchy: Aron the High Priest, + Aron, Nadab, Abihu + Twelwe Pillars/"Young Man" of Twelve Tribes + The 70: Priestly Elders of Israel (Exod 24,1-11)

That oral tradition just keeps coming up. First the Jews, then the Gnostics, then the Catholics, now the Liberals.
It's a convenient way to make your own ideology your god, while convincing yourself your conscience is clean about it.
@@dananderson6697 good point ☝️
It is clear that the Holy Spirit doesn't grant the same wisdom and discernment to everyone because we Christians disagree on so much (I think the best argument against Sola Scriptura is simply the diversity of Christian denominations on important things like Baptism and "once saved, always saved")
Finally, I think following the pope and bishops does something that all humans really need and I've heard you talk about before: teach humility.
I want to be so rooted in my faith,
If anyone wants to get better at tactfully speaking to people the way Jesus did and the way Mike said he did at the campus, I recommend reading “Tactics” by Gregory Koukl. He gets in depth on how to ask questions affectively to get answers out of people. It’s a great book!
It not like a police officer pulling you over it’s like the President pulling you over.🤣🤣
There was one particular pope who was exhumed from the grave and "put on trial" because he did some weird and wrong things. Papal infallibility deserves an eye-roll when you dig into the details of what each pope did and disagreed with previous pope's...
John 17:21
I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one-as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
Well at least the Roman Catholic Church is One, true to the prayer of the Lord Jesus Christ just hours before His passion, a prayer of a dying Saviour.
It's easy to take a placebo to deal with a real problem, trying to make certainty out of uncertainty by "fiat", but we are called to trust God with our certainty, not to trust men with it.

You heretic! How can you make light off the heartfelt words and prayer of the Lord Jesus Christ to His Father in Heaven?
Your perverted will dictates your irredeemable beliefs despite the evidence. What a sad day for your miserable soul.
@@eddixxon There was no making light of anything, there was debate about what Jesus meant by "One", not putting it aside in any way. The Oneness that Jesus refers to can be interpreted in a few ways, and a big organisation and "magisterium" is only one of the possible alternatives. Calling people heretic is easy...you can do better than that, for both our sakes! Where is the steel-manning that Aquinas was so good at, let's see some please!
@@quantummechanist1
The Oneness that Jesus refers to is plain and simple. Don't make a mountain out of the molehill and complicate matters like a thief being caught with his pants down chomping on a cookie stolen from the jar.
I can't believe how much I like the word magisterium. It really rolls of the tongue!
Do you mean "off of the tongue?"

Outstanding Mike.
My wife.and I were raised roman catholic and came out immediately when we get born again.
I sort of majored on the "spine" aspect; but feel that i've lacked a lot in wisdom and grace.
Ironically.
I was kicked out of a Protestant church that sounds more like the Sanhedrin than even the catholics do.
Please elaborate your reasons that make it so different that the parallel doesn’t apply? Thanks Keegan
