    Everyone remembers Dean Jones' 210 at Madras, and Matthew Haydens 2001 tour of India, but nobody speaks about Damian Martyn's 2004 tour to India. 444 runs at 55. Most runs in the series from either team.

      I remember this ,even in wc 2003 final and 2006 ICC CT also he delivered similar performance . At many occasions he always deliver his best . He is champion cricketer anytime . But I don’t know why he retired so early . I felt very bad because I missed his batting .

    • @mediabots
      @mediabots 4 года назад +6

      @@rasl2300 do some research , its all because Aussie selectors & team management want to replace him with THE Watson, an average batter & bowler (probably he has a big daddy with $$$x).
      Anyway, due to corruption, Aussie has no reputation in todays cricket. Winning a World Cup in home ground is childish as well as rabbish.

      He wasn't dropped because of that dismissal. He did score an impor5ant half century in the first innings. But Steve waugh was out injured and came back the next test. So Martin was dropped and a subsequent loss of form at state level meant that he didn't regain his spot 5 tests later against Pakistan when Border retired.

    He kept looking like young Norm Macdonald all his life and his batting was of the purest form.

    Isn't it weird to hear a bloke who's batting always seemed so effortless say that he retired as he felt he wasn't 100% committed to doing the hard things required to continue as he had been. Shows how much work some of these "effortless" style players in any sport put in to perfect their style.
    I love the way he gets a bit peeved about the "M.I.A" comment about the 2 weeks after his retirement. He'd made a clean cut and left. Good on him. No "exclusive" for Ch 9 for 6 weeks.

    Mark waugh was as stylish as Martyn, but for me Martyn was a better match winner + stylish combo than Mark waugh ( i mean in Australian team). I have seen him pull his team through tough sessions in Test match with elegance and hardwork..
    Somehow mark gets more mention than Martyn just becos of more runs. I am sure Martyn, had he stayed, would have had more match winning innings than many in that team.
    Still remember him as the best player of spin from the aussie team, while touring tough home teams like Ind and SL!

    his retirement was shocking but it had do with team politics and inter squad rivalry. It was reported that he had spoken to Ponting about it and Ponting had asked him to continue playing but he chose to retire. In this way the Australian system is better. The never allowed these incidents to come out in public. For e.g. Mark Taylor and Steve Waugh did not like Gilchrist and they continued to prefer Healy but he came into the side at a late age and proved himself.

    The underrated cricketer. As an Indian, still hate him for the runs in his 2004 India tour and in WC final. When India got all others out, Martyn would prop up all of a sudden and score as if it was easy. I respect Martyn more than Ponting since he played well in India.
