Suisei and the lyrics of Stellar Stellar was the topic my final paper for a media-oriented writing class at Harvard Extension School in 2021. Back the sparse academic discussion of vtubers I could find (mostly technology and media conference proceedings, not even real papers) had difficulty discussing vtubers without needing it to put it in the context "real identity" and "actor". So I wanted to challenge that by discussing vtubers in their/their peers' own terms. One drive of the class was to be able to treat film as texts, so I went a step further and used streams and song lyrics as texts. My paper actually wasn't initially supposed to focus only on Suisei, but it became almost a necessity of focusing on *someone* because vtubers, or even "Hololive" made for way too large a scope. Any other Holomem could easily have been their own paper, including Miko, but Suisei was closer to one theme I was hoping to develop, which is the changing nature of "idol" and how even corporate idol vtubers have more autonomy than professional "idols" have ever had in the Japanese context and how Suisei herself might be a harbinger of change... Almost exactly 3 years ago I was looping Stellar Stellar in a rush to get it submitted! I wanted to fix it up a bit more and then potentially publish it online/send it to Cover and the other vtubers I'd referenced. But there were some key developments early in 2022 I needed to write around in order to do that, and as time went on, Suisei's accomplishments just built up and I didn't have any hope of merely revising it as I got busier and more deeply involved with classwork. I think at this point things have changed so much that it would be interesting to look back at the environment when I worked on the paper, and what I would focus on in a similar paper on vtubers now.
I was like "Bro you're a liar Stellar Stellar didn't come out in 2021 it came out recently" and then immediately turned to dust when I checked the upload date

I am a poet/lyricist, and I'm a fan of Miko. Does that mean I'm elite too?
