Weird how millions of poor and working class Americans seem okay with billionaires paying a smaller percentage in taxes, while holding 60+% of the country's wealth. The mindf* is impressive.
We have to remember that the GOP has been working on dividing Americans using their wedge issues and their gerrymandering and phony grassroots groups to affect local politics for over 40+ years. As soon as they realized how many new voters each year were becoming democrats and that they couldn't win elections anymore without changing their agenda or cheating, of course, they chose manipulation of the citizens rather than upgrading their agenda. The GOP other than the few Catholics were firmly for abortion; however, they almost all within a week or so, changed their stance on abortion and used it as their main wedge issue in their quest to create single issue voters who'd vote against their own best interests as long as the candidate was against abortion. Mind you, much of the info they'd fed voters about this procedure was outright lies. So when we wonder how so much of our population fell for Trump's con game, we have to remember how the GOP had been manipulating these folks for decades and their ministers, elected officials and most trusted name in news, of course. Unions also were a target and we see how that's worked out for big business and how wages and benefits have stagnated for the working class. Only the police unions have become stronger, but they no longer seem to be protecting citizens, but instead they are mainly protecting companies and their assets or merchandise. Anyway, people have been being manipulated for a long time now, and the GOP accelerated their goals by the success of trump to tap into our grievances and aim the anger at each other instead of the elites who have bought and paid for our politicians and judges and stolen our legal system for their own benefits. You can fire every government employee and close every non mandatory agency and still not eliminate the deficit. When 70-80% of government spending is defense spending , Social Security , Medicare, and paying interest on trillions of dollars of government debt , that leaves little to work with.
I don't trust them to keep their paws off of defense, Social Security, and Medicare. Also, they might cut the IRS funding for enforcement. Remember how mad Maga was when we funded that? Their donors went nuts, too. They tried to convince the voters that would increase the deficit.
So I think it would logically follow to prioritize social security and medicare, while increasing taxes on billionaires and corporations, who are themselves extracting extraordinary amounts of money from the economy. Then gradually decrease defense spending while encouraging and aiding allied nations in building up their own militaries, with the aim of becoming more equal partners in NATO. The defense spending funds can then be used to reduce the deficit and increase funding for social programs and public infrastructure. I’m no expert but I’ve heard about this kind of stuff working really really well in this ancient document known as the New Deal.
Social Security is funded by payroll taxes and investments in US Treasury bonds. The SSA is the largest domestic holder of US debt. CONGRESS DOES NOT FUND SOCIAL SECURITY. It decides how much of the loan to payback.
@@WASDLeftClick The payment on the deficit is already larger than the entire DoD. The deficit payment is so large now that it is now #2 on the government bill, behind SS, though the difference is #1 and #2 on the bill is yet a vast gulf (and that's before all the forthcoming payments to the retired boomers, which is going to be a huge haircut to SS). Infrastructure spending, on the other hand, is a rounding error. But if you want to pay for that, you have to do this thing where you say No to the lives of small furry animals who are in the way of the construction.
No one should be worried about the deficit. The US is a currency soverign, so we can spent whatever our economy will support and paper "deficits" can't hurt us. The reason for raising taxes is to improve our GINI coefficient so as to avoid social unrest.

The tax breaks given to US operated multinational corporations are also a big part of the problem. Companies are now legally entitled to cast a vote in the US, a country that became a nation in part because of the perceived injustice of paying tax while being underrepresented at the seat of government in London. The problem now is that those who have the most influence plus the right to vote are the ones who pay the least in taxes. The original rallying cry was "No taxation without representation" maybe the living, breathing, thinking mass of citizens should be demanding that if you have the means, and the right to vote then it's time to demand No representation without fairer taxation. Either that, or get laws enacted that make it illegal for companies and the ultra rich to have any contact with serving elected officials during their terms of office unless it is at the capitol during investigative hearings.
Budget modification can be readily resolved by not renewing the 2017 trump tax cuts and implementing a minimum tax percentage on corporations & those earning $500,000 of at least 15%. That they work the system to pay 0-6% when a large pert of the rest of us pay 9 - 12% has questionable legitimacy. Why is the only considered efficient budget road cut expenditures. What about increasing revenue by rolling back tax cuts?

Billionaires' wealth sequestration isn't capitalism. It's what's strangling capitalism.
It's the ultimate form of unrestrained capitalism.

Happy holidays, Belle. I hope you and Beau and the rest will have a restful end of year.
Kind of like a Gish Gallop. He spews outrageous ideas like a fire hose in hope one of them strikes a chord with his base.
The political smoke and mirrors is why many refuse to engage with it.
Thanks again Belle for all you do. I really hope you get some consecutive, happy holidays off from the channel You deserve it and we need you!!

Thank you, Belle; and good night, internet people!
There is a lot more going on than being said. Definitely smoke and mirrors!
Social security is a trust fund paid into it FICA!
But if you want to pay for that, you have to do this thing where you say No to the lives of small furry animals who are in the way of the construction.
how about raising revenue by repealing the trump/mcconnell tax give away to the obscenely wealthy?
Amen!
Or remove the limit on SS earnings levels. Spelling edit.
That's a logical solution. Rather, if they were truly worried about the deficit it would be logical.
No one should be worried about the deficit. The US is a currency soverign, so we can spent whatever our economy will support and paper "deficits" can't hurt us. The reason for raising taxes is to improve our GINI coefficient so as to avoid social unrest.
Sounds like soecialism!
Merry Christmas Ms Belle

Let's be clear. trump has ZERO Intentions of Ever leaving office. SO adjust your expectations accordingly!
He is unlikely to live much longer, even if he does his continued mental decline will pick up speed until he will becomes a useless puppet, or a more dangerous one. JD is licking his servile chops in expectation of the power he hopes to wield.

A voice of reason in a crazy world.
The primary solution is to increase taxes on the billionaires.
@@forbeginnersandbeyond6089 ‘Billionaires’ aren’t W-2ed employees. Increasing taxes on them is a smokescreen.

Oooh! New variables in a math problem! Heaven and he’ll all at once. 😉
They’re planning on cutting Social Security.
Thank you, Belle and Beau, and happy holidays!
And if we'd elected Harris, that would certainly be happening. But the mob boss wants to continue the criminal empire.
