Not sure. I don't follow the "canon" dreamtale story. This is also going off zuishere's comic as well. Personally having a positive being being unable to be corrupted and purify anything they touch closes off a lot of potential to explore deeper character arcs and flaws making them appear as omnipotent. Dream is a guardian of positivity sure, but if he loses sight, hope or purpose in his actions then who's to say those idealisms cannot be twisted, convoluted and corrupted. Who's to say that his ability to purify can be nullified or completely eliminated? I like to think of it as someone who was raised to be virtuous and to help people and return good deeds. Eventually there comes a point where reality hits that person and they realize that not everyone is a good person and they begin to see the true evil and misery that people can be capable of which begs to question if they really should help people even if they truly did horrible things and that if not helping them is a lesser evil or if helping them will allow them to continue with the evil things they do or if they would turn a new leaf and actually change. It kind of brings in the question of morality and what defines a person/character as good or evil, among many other deep questions about a person's alignment/intentions. For example, dream here may have let himself be corrupt because he felt that him being corrupt would usurp him of the disservice done to his brother and by proxy relieve his guilt, or maybe he felt so lost and helpless that the best thing for him would be to be corrupted or maybe he might have just ate the apple so that he didn't have to feel the negative feelings plaguing him to make himself numb to the pain in the manner where some people inflict pain on themselves to just feel something different. There are so many interpretations that can come from that and that's where the beauty of character flaws really shines.
