In an interview ( I think it was about a year ago ) Venetta said that when John was getting a band together for ‘Whispering Jack’ tour, and asked Venetta if she would sing back up, she at first wasn’t sure if she wanted to do it, she was singing with her own Gospel Group, he said to her, if she would come on tour with him, she could sing any song she wanted, - she chose Amazing Grace, ( I believe she sung 2 other songs as well) - and continued to sing with him for many years and many tours, (would always put her hand up when tour was mentioned) Venetta has toured /sung with Ike and Tina Tuner, Pink Floyd, Boz Scaggs , the Rolling Stone and many others, emigrated to Australia 1982 and has recorded and toured with many Australian artist as well, the other singer, Lindsay Field, back- up singer /guitarist and friend of John for many years now, (no relation to Venetta Fields) thank you for reacting to this great song, there is still plenty more where that came from.

Seeing this live was even more amazing than hearing the video. Venetta's high notes filled the whole arena, then add John and Lindsay into the mix, and it just carried you away. This was the one and only time that music bought tears to my ex husbands eyes. Me and everyone around us, were balling and grabbing for tissues. John does this in his concerts always giving credit to his band and backing singers like Venetta and Lindsay...sung a few duets with the other female singer as well (Angels) The was near the end of another brilliant concert where he gives his all...(see his shirt is soaking wet) so this was how he rests lol.... I love Miss Venetta, Lyndsay, Lisa and Charles who came later. John makes sure everyone gets to shine and after they work with him once they never leave until they retire. That includes his band and everyone who even works off stage. You do not leave one of John’s concerts before he introduces everyone. She has a massive CV, she just so happened to bump into John and become a member of his Band. She ended up becoming an aussie and staying. I don't know if she has fully retired or not yet, but she became one of the greatest Voice Coaches in Queensland where she settled and still lives to this day and teaches new upcoming singers their craft.

I may be wrong but I seem to remember that they did this as a vocal warm up before performances. Both Lindsay and Venetta worked with John over a long period and, along with Lisa Edwards, were loved by John and his audiences.

John always acknowledges his team whether it’s his backup singers or people playing the instruments. Right from when he performed Bridge Over Troubled Water in his younger days he acknowledged the guy accompanying him on the piano. Or a guy accompanying him on guitar. He was always thoughtful of the other musicians.
John got screwed around so badly and learnt much on his way to the top dealing with jealousy, in fighting and bitterness. By the time he got around to creating his own The John Farnham Band, he learnt his lesson. He recognized the importance in not hogging the spotlight, making sure everyone got their respect and light shone on them. He made sure everyone knew who every single one of his band members were, both permanent and brief guests. He actively sort out their own input and thoughts on music and how to improve everything they did. He actively campaigned for their own reputation outside of his own and helped them all where he could. Both John and his Band and members can be heard or seen in credits for other big aussie bands albums and some concerts. Even some international artists borrowed his Band to back them up on tours in australia.
