I over payed for my very first Stagg and my JD12 yr. I paid $200 for the Stagg and $300 for JD 12yr batch 1. I love both bottles but never again will I pay 3x to 4x msrp ever again on any bottle.
I spent $1000 on a bottle of the 2022 Heaven Hill 17 year for a celebration bottle when I got my Air Force pilot wings. Most I’ve ever spent on a bottle. It sucks that the market demands crazy prices but the market is what the market is and secondary market is market price. With that being said I believe that HH17 goes for significantly more than $1000 on secondary nowadays
Bourbon 70 dollars for blantons, i bought 3 one of which was gifted. Most i ever spent on a whiskey is 160 for jameson 18 bow street cask strenght edition.
A few $150 bottles. Hardins creek boston/frankfort/Clermont & Jacob's well 211 come to mind.. All 4 bottles are great.. 17+ years! $130 discovery 11 (got a few for backups, it's fantastic!) I generally try up keep the max near 150 unless it's a unicorn bottles like gts, WLW, hazmat unicorns, etc.....
270.00 for Mister Sam Tribute Whiskey. Haven’t opened it yet. Has a scary high secondary. If not familiar with this bottle check it out at Bourbon Culture, very interesting store and few people have heard of it.
Most I have ever spent on a bottle was $225 for a bottle of the 2023 hazmat Garrison Brothers Cowboy bourbon. As for if I would spend that much money on it again, the 2 bottles I have bunkered bought at the same price says yes. Although I did have to try a pour of it prior to buying it the first time. I have a hard time taking a chance on a bottle at that price.
Your pick will be great! I picked up 3 GT Staggs in the box with the paperwork for 200.00 each, 2 Thomas H Handy’s with the paperwork for 300.00 each, Hardin’s Creek Clermont for 200.00, 2 bottles of Russell’s Rickhouse for 225.00, Michters 10yr bourbon for 200.00, and the most expensive bottle is a Heaven Hill 17yr that I traded to get. Cheers!
I’m just curious, because I’m out hunting at stores pretty frequently and talking to store owners locally…how does one acquire a list of bottles like this? I rarely come close to sniffing some of these bottles or they are only in lotteries. I’m not into participating in the secondary market also. Thanks & cheers!
@@geland1 I have a friend at a big box store and was able to buy with no limit. So I picked up what I could and gave one to my son and the other bottles to friends for the same price I paid. I see them in the wild but they are usually 1000.00-1200.00 per bottle.
the most ive ever spent that wasnt msrp was a stagg store pick bundle. the bundle was 350 but came with 100 worth of other bottles to make the stagg 250. its a hazmat store pick though at 143.4 proof , its the 2nd highest proof stagg jr produced by them, specs store pick out of texas was number 1.
Man the high end stuff is cheap in your market! GTS is $600 here and lot b is $700 and that’s “preferred customer” pricing. Willet purple tops are between $500 and $600. Old forester barrel proof rye and bourbon is $150 and Stagg is $125 ($200 for a pick). Weller FP is $200 and four roses barrel proof is $150. I have not seen the Russel’s 15 yet but fully expect them to price it at around $400.
$250 for JD 12yr batch 2. Next highest $180 for Ofo rye SiB from Warehouse K. Haven’t opened the JD yet but would absolutely buy the Ofo again at $180.
Your pick sounds great! My son got married back in 2016 and he jokingly told his future brother in law that he would like a Pappy 15yr for a gift and he went to the local store and bought one for 2,100.00! Crazy! It’s pretty nice but not that nice!
I try not to go over my $300 limit but did it once. Lately Russell 15, $300. Four Roses 135th anniversary $300 and a Willet 10 year purple top for $500.
The most I've ever spent was $300 for George T. Stagg (this was a lottery win and that's what the store had it priced at). Next would be a store pick of lucky Seven Proprietor 15yr at $250 and that's where my top range has hovered around. I have a ton of limited bottles and I always tell everyone: With patience & time you'll eventually get what you're looking for at the right price, never let FOMO influence your buying decisions.

The most I’ve ever spent is $50 for Woodford Double Oaked as a present for a friend. For myself, $45 for a handle of Old Forrester 100. I usually drink Evan Williams White Label… about $26 for a handle at Costco. I can’t believe people pay so much for all those bottles…. Crazy
I’ve paid $120($99 + $20WA state tax) for an eagle rare 1.75L. In the state that’s a great deal, outside of the state, probably not. But I had never seen one before.
I like the practice of making you crack heater bottles at the store haha. Flippers can do what they do, they just have to go elsewhere. Only enjoyers allowed
The 2 most expensive bottles I have are a 14yr Heaven Hill wheated bourbon select stock at barrel strength at $250 and a Heaven Hill heritage 18yr at $300. I would buy the HH select stock again. I don’t think the HH18 lives up to its price tag. It is good, but not $300 good, $150 good yes. I think there are very few bourbons out there really worth over a $150-$200 price tag. The law of diminishing returns really kicks in over $100, IMO.
2ndary prices should be illegal. I realize that a mark up is necessary to be in business, but some of these prices are exorbitant, criminal. Anything more than double msrp is stupid and I hope that anyone charging more should go out of business.
Unfortunately secondary prices reflect true market value. If your getting it for less then your adding something else into the equation (luck, relationships, etc). I used to be pissed off at secondary for the longest time until I realized this…then I just decided hey, this is what they go for, either I can complain about it and sit on the sidelines or I can pay higher prices. With that being said prices fluctuate depending when and where you are and I try to hit less than secondary but I’ll pay more than MSRP if I really like the bottle
Just don't buy it. If weirdos weren't out there compulsively seeking out a product that's readily available at 30-40 dollars there wouldn't be people doing it.
FOMO will break the bank. I have spent $150 on a Calumet 16, probably wouldn't pay that again, but lucky for me, they are selling for $100 now, which is a buy. After that, I paid $125 for Knob Creek 15, I would happily pay that again. Outside of those 2. I don't have anything sought after.
Most I have spent was $250 for an Old Fitz 13 VVS, actually spent $500 cause my wife was with me so we were lucky enough to each get one... 2nd most expensive was $200 for a Lux Row 12 Year Double Single Barrel.

I once paid $250 for a 2018 GTS and never regretted it. My wife found it sitting on the shelf at a nearby supermarket and called me to ask if I wanted her to pick it up for me. Heck yeah!
