    ABS pump needs bleeding as well its part of the system and if it tramps air it will create a dead pedal even if all calipers move fluid with no bubbles.
    VCDS can actuate the pump and move the fuild which is the more humane way of doing it, the other ways is a bit more caotic - locking the brakes on slippery surface to actuate the abs few times which will release all the air in the abs pump
    Keep up the good work!

    Dude- I feel you man! I have an 325i that developed a massive oil leak (oil filter housing o-ring) and I barely made it home. I’m waiting for parts now. I would suggest rebuilding that housing so that you don’t have this kind of failure- it could be pretty bad.
    Next- I have a 300tdi 90- that seems to be my most reliable classic car but has a lot of little things that make it an undesirable daily driver- no ac, leaks water inside, horrible heat, super slow, etc.
    Lastly I have a 1960s Porsche 912 - not counting the rust- it was a good driver until I lost compression on the no. 3 cylinder. Car is now just parked- can’t afford to fix it 😂- I have other responsibilities.
    At the end of the day- if it wasn’t for my Corolla - I wouldn’t be able to keep these old unreliable cars. My Corolla keeps me on the road. I would recommend having a Toyota in the fleet- they just don’t quit.

    Just park the E30 in Flat areas without handbrake and just with gear 1. Its normal for those type of breakes that these get rusty and stuck. I live in a flat part of germany and no one uses the handbrakes here for that reason.

    I’m in this boat rn lol. My 850r had been sitting for years waiting on a list of repairs. I got it fixed, but my 240 has been sitting due to a crash. Then overnight the fuel pump died in the 850 and I’m back to no car lol. I paid for overnight shipping from fcp but I have a feeling that pump isn’t coming today lol. What really sucks is the 850 is parked somewhere it shouldn’t be and I can’t moved it bc it’s on an incline. Fingers crossed the pump comes before a tow truck

    Brake systems with ESP blocks always are more fiddly to bleed. For the A8 D2 for example and the Q7 4L (both I own) you need to bleed the brakes with VCDS. The ESP pump gets actuated and you can then bleed the according line. Seems more work, but actually was much quicker that way. You can of course bleed brakes without VCDS, but then you better use a vacuum brake fluid tool. Or do it old school a lot of times. Did it on my first A8 4 times until the pedal was firm. And I noticed it was much firmer than some cars that were done by a shop.
    Either way, I have three current project cars standing here with three others I need to fix and sell while rebuilding our house. I know the feeling of unfinished projects. It's hard on you after a while and you get slower and less active. Need to fight that in order to stay on top of things

    Painful to have to deal with that but at least this way the callipers are the correct way around. Smaller pistons on the leading edge will give better performance and more even pad wear. For a ‘custom’ brake set up, this should have been the case from day one…

    • @HunterDirection
      @HunterDirection  9 месяцев назад

      I agree that having them the right way now is a big benefit. You are right that's it's strange how they came reversed haha. Thank you for the support!

  • @Pats-Garage
    @Pats-Garage 9 месяцев назад

    I might have a reason why you haven't been able to get a firm pedal. Sometimes air leaks around the bleeder screw when you have it loose. Make sure there's a little bit of thread sealant on the bleeder screws. And make sure it's the right stuff. I've also heard about people using Teflon tape, even though it's not rated for that

    • @DustySteel
      @DustySteel 9 месяцев назад +1

      That could be true but isn’t the pressure of the brake fluid enough to keep that air out? I’ve done brakes multiple times on multiple vehicles and for some reason always have a spongy pedal at first until I’ve driven it around more. One would think that having the brake reservoir up higher then the rest of the system would draw the air to the top.

    May be useful to see if you have a bleed nipple on the audi on the clutch line I know the TT has one near the gearbox also the Master cylinder may have one or two nipples underneath if there are bleed nipples bleed these after you bleed the four wheels in sequence.

    There is only one way to mount staggered bore piston callipers., the smaller bore always is towards the leading edge of the pad as the disc rotates past it. Doing it the other way will lead to lost performance and tapered wear of the pad.

    • @HunterDirection
      @HunterDirection  9 месяцев назад +1

      Man that's extra interesting that they came reversed to begin with then😅 guess there is a benefit to all this hassle then. Thank you for the support!

    • @skiptastic1000
      @skiptastic1000 8 месяцев назад

      @@HunterDirection i’m glad it got installed the proper way in the end. The leading edge of the brake pad always gets pulled in towards the disk during a braking event, this effect is what automatically creates extra force at the leading edge of the brake pad, the smaller pistons are always on the lead edge as the smaller surface area of the smaller piston won’t force on the back of the pad as hard, the larger bore ( surface area ) on the trailing edge, applies more pressure than the leading edge to help mitigate this taper phenomenon.

    So just a heads up hope this helps any time you remove the caliper on these cars you can bleed it all you want but it will still have the pedal feel you are experiencing you need to perform the abs full brake system bleed. If this b5 is equipped with it which i wanna say it is and if so i recommend getting vcds to perform the bleed routine 👍
