🤣 An XRF machine only penetrates a few microns into the metal and DOESN'T go all the way through, hence a good fake WON'T be detected. Only way to know if its real gold all the way through is to cut the bar in half and examine the inside. So many people buying fake without even realising it.
We use a variety of methods for testing. Including density checks and conductivity which aid in testing those larger items that XRF may struggle with. We have also cut bars or drilled but this is always a last step as it's obviously very destructive to the item.
This is the kind of honesty you would expect from a decent bullion dealer. Down to earth, showing the fake versus real items and giving us the heads up on how to spot it. You guys at Bullion Now are the best, thanks.
No they're quite possibly the worst because they don't know how to use any of: density test, magnetic susceptibility test, or ultrasound test. Gold-plated tungsten bars would pass these guys because they are okay with XRF only if the size is right. Tungsten has the same density as gold so the dimension comparison they showed at the beginning would pass. I wonder how many fakes they have in their possession. I have seen tungsten fakes that are perfect dimension and pass XRF. If I were looking to sell a tungsten fake, these guys would be a perfect victim.
Great video ! I had to go back and check my 1oz gold bars after watching this ! I bought from a reputable seller that's the most comforting part. Cheers fellas !
Nice video very good info i watched my local bullion dealer have to tell a old guy that brought his stack in that almost all of it was fake it was one of the saddest things i have ever seen around 100k worth of fake metal
@@BullionNow Hey mate I just had to ask... I did recently buy a 50g Perth mint bullion from a highly reputable dealer based in Brisbane and Melbourne which is all well and good. One thing that caught my attention is that on the back of alot of these bullion cards has the assayer signature, however mine does not have that signature, though noticed some advertised by even perth mint itself did not have this signature.... Just curious what this might be about.... Edit: noticed the real one you showed in this video didn't have the signature either, with the exact same font bar number👍
There are heaps of Silver Perth Mint coin fakes all over eBay. eBay does NOTHING to kick these sellers out. It is a federal offence to counterfeit currency, which Perth Mint coins are. If it looks too be good to be true it probably is.
I'm not in aus but I'm thinking of picking up one of those perth mint 1oz cast bars as my first gold purchase, they're cute. also probably a good way to familiarise myself with the feel of gold without worrying about tarnishing it.
Do the cast small bars supposed to bing when hit with something? I have one that tests Au but when I do the sound test it does not sound like a gold coin.
Some remember people, always check the weight and size of the product, that the best way to eye test. But the best way is to have it checked by a professional who has a testing machine.
Always seems astounding that somebody out there is spending time and money attempting to create fakes. It's can't be a simple process. It must pay off in the long run.
I picked the REAL CROC fella's, because I have 3 tubes of them with 'MILK SPOTS' & I got to get a real good look at them while I was fixing them up with a white PENCIL ERASER. Yes folks, I only bought them for the .9999 silver, so don't stress.
I'm actually a little proud of myself for how many I got right especially considering I've only seen photos at this point of most. With the Silver kookaburra maybe it was just a lucky guess but the patterning on the feathers looked more like a crinkle pattern. I see you guys are using an XRF gun, but how do you rate those Sigma devices?
My predictions were 100% right, 14/14, yay me Though you didnt test the reflective bar but I'm guessing it's fake I'm not familiar with the crocs and that was the hardest for me to decide but the fake versions foot had less detail on the scales. Kookaburra fakes feathers were also off, as well as the reverse proof finish
The prevalence of fakes on the markets isn’t a concern for dealers as they have the means to determine if they are correct. The real issue is for your buyers when they wish to sell their bullion, market confidence in the secondary market limits our ability to liquidate without losing the premiums we paid when purchasing.

With the Zn, Cu, Ni fake coins, with the minimal amount of Ni, would the coin still be magnetic and fail the magnetic test?

did you notice that the crown on the real one is touching the U of australia and with the fake one it is in mid air in front of the A ?
We didn't, but thats why we love our commenters like yourself!
XRF machines are not foolproof. Ultrasound and electrical conductivity should also be used to test "bullion".

You’re welcome! I should get a commission for those bars I donated to you guys 😂😂

We all know that Australians are nuts, but this is 👏...keep on going ! Just a comment from a CZ person.
Thanks Matt & Michael. Great info !
the two kookaburras at 11:30 - 12:00 in this ciip. The fake lacks a date on the obverse - I assume that's a "giveaway" too?
Yes.
On the Krugerrand something you didn't mention is the color. Real Kroogz are pinkish.
wish you would also have showed what a magnet did with the fakes...
What is the thickness of a real 1 Oz bar
i got the Croc Silver One in my Collection and it's a beauty....and Yes it is kinda yellowish...!!!
Thanks guys very informative- I test every coin no matter where or who I get it from
Uh... time to double check all my kookaburras

I couldn’t help but laugh when I heard the xrf machines are “cheap”
Please bring back more Queens beast coins 🙏

the crocs are matt finished if i 'm not mistaken
You are not mistaken!
@@BullionNow it’s possible to order gold internally???? From Bullion Now Now
I can see the krugerrand is fake just by the colour..

where do you think these fakes are made?
Mainly in a very largely populated country. Not India.
@@BullionNow Why don't you answer a straight question with a straight answer...?
What are you afraid of?
I assumed China. They fake everything else.
They should bring back the death penalty for the tossers who make fakes !
Silver
The finishings on those proof coins were really poor.
Love seeing these fake videos
More like pccp slabbing
