40:27 every space marine is going to die in war. Just odds are someone is going to get lucky at some point if you keep throwing yourself into battle for centuries.
But also, if I'm being honest and this is more the Ward problem but man, I hate this guy and have to rant about it lol. Him and Uriel Ventris. Not really for anything they did. Really they are the white bread of space marines but their armor is made out of plot-tanium. Really they are not the only chapter to do this but they tend to win because they are Cata Sicarius and not because they did anything special. Like Maccragges Honor, there was this daemon that killed the company champion, a primaris squad, and was giving the whole company the business. So how does Cato beat it? Brilliant sword work? Genous tactics? Maybe some inspired trap? No, he just.......does, some how because he's Cato Sicarius.
Uriel has the same problem. like one of his first book they had to take out this traitor guard line. But Uriel is known to be a brilliant tactician so what does he do? Run a few assault squads face first into enemy guns and while they are getting killed, flank with a few more squads to take the line. That's not being a master tactician, not when we have real world examples like the Brécourt Manor assault in WW2 where 23 paratroopers took some 60+ intrenched Germans on and lost only 4 guys.
But like I said this is all out side of the fiction stuff. I really don't like most of Graham McNeill's and Nick Kyme's writing. That and the Matt Ward thing where the Ultramarines became Garry Stews for more than a decade it seems like. They are way better now but back then they just farted out victories that made 0 sense.

I guess my third guess was correct about the 40:27 thingie you pointed at, everybody's death is pretty much inevitable in 40K but it is just a matter of time and luck huh, and when it comes to the writing thing you ranted about, I can see why you would feel that way, I personally love characters that stand out and are super cool and strong but there are instances of situations that do not live up to their intended hype and reputation sometimes by not having enough of the aspects that are supposed to make said characters so great, but I still can't help but like them for reasons, I do plan to also see Uriel Ventris' lore eventually too, but still, SO FAR, except for the Primarch, if I had to pick a favorite Ultramarine it would be another over-the-top crazy one, Malum Caedo haha

@@VithLiahainI understand if the whole writing thing isn’t a big deal to you, but I want to give an example of how bad it got.
So Cato Sicarious once defeated a C’tan shard by throwing what is known as a Vortex Grenade at it. A Vortex Grenade is an extremely rare kind of grenade that rips a whole into the Warp and sucks everything inside. The fact that this was able to defeat a C’tan shard makes sense.
But here is the problem: at no point in the story where this takes place were the readers informed, nor was it ever hinted at, that Sicarious had this thing on him until the moment that he threw it. It was explained in that scene that the Vortex Grenade was entrusted to him before he left for the battle, but only when the scene actually occurred.
Instead of showing the scene of Sicarious being given the Vortex Grenade, thus setting up the moment it was thrown to be a payoff for a Chekhov’s Gun, the story was just like “oh he just so happened to be given this super rare and powerful weapon that could get him out of this situation.”
Sicarious is a badass, or at least he should be. But when you mix a badass with bad writing, you get a boring mary sue.

@@joshtompkins1538 Oh I see, I do like desperate stories of badass victories more than ass-pulls, well, I do like ass-pulls when they are funny instead of trying to be serious ass-pulls, so I can see what you mean

@@VithLiahain yeah, this kinda thing used to happen a lot with Sicarious when Matt Ward was still around. I hope you can see why some people aren’t a fan of the Sicarious now. He’s a lot better now the Matt Ward is gone, but all the bad writing about his feats has left a sour taste in the mouths of many fans.

@@joshtompkins1538 I can see, yes, I think the generalization of his story does still sound pretty cool, but the actual stories themselves, like the one you mentioned, do sound pretty disappointing for what could actually be instead
